where in the world will you work as a house officer and be able to afford a new car after 1 year of housemanship, without taking a financial plan....This is not true....Here in Uk, a new car goes for maybe 18,000- 20,000+....and even if its fairly new, for a Honda accord, u will still spend about 14 or 15k.....with ur F2 salary, you will manage to save 10k ayear, if u are paying rent. The only way is to take a loan. Or after years of practice, you can pay cash. But the life is generally better, far far better. Not taht u can just buy new car as u please though
And take note, in Nigeria, like 3-5 years back, you could buy a new Camry with your salary, when a new Camry was less than 1.5million. But now, the economy is messed up that you would be grateful to see a secondhand Camry of that amount. I have classmates who bought cars with there house job money. Things went out of hand during Buhari's tenure. That's why I noted that. Price of commodities rise, but your Salary is stuck like 10years late

Unfortunately, there is a much more bigger picture, and problem of health is just one of them....It goes beyond building hospitals, etc....We have a long way to go to be in the league of super nations. If u want to go, Go. But, don't forget u trained in Nigeria and probably might not have been able to get into medical school abraod or afford it...Yet, you will now h=gain work as a doctor there without owing massive student loans!!!!

SO don't come here and say nonsense. What's happening in Africa is sad, but it's not entirely the fault of this generation. We were born into this mess. The great nations have gained greatness over a century of blood and sweat and we have to pay our dues b4 the tide can change. Oh, by the way, i'm a Doctor typing from UK
Dude, don't talk about loans. Do you think I am here free of charge, I am here on loans up my ass, and I have to pay back when I am done. Lemme not tell you my story, bit just know that where there is a will, there is a way. I cannot mortgage my future using the blackmail of I was trained in Nigeria. So I was trained for 6 years by family who slaved to see me through, so I would mortgage the rest of my life to be earning rubbish and be answering 'doc' bit cannot afford to comfortably put food on my table and take care of my family? Do you know the job opportunities available bin Nigeria? The available space? That people jump for 300 naira/hour locum job? You must be kidding yourself

Most professionals in Negeria are underpaid but its only your voice we hear. the countries you are running to will one day get filled up to capacity and we will see what you will do then

A good number of them hide under the excuse of "no equipment" but are solely after the money. These guys get cheap as fvck education in Naija, dump the helpless masses and go for higher paying rates outside the country. Even if we had equipment, many of them would still take the PLAB or whatever exam.

I recently read an article about how doctors and engineers, who brave dangers in explosion ridden Gaza, work together to 3D print basic medical equipment and they aim for much more than that.

Sure, we've got major issues with corruption and underfunding. However, their response doesn't solve the problem. It only hurts more people in the long run.

Fact of life.....

My last born (my sister o, my own pikin never reach anywhere o, lols) is currently studying as a nurse...

But my intention is to send her to Dublin or Jordan for those are the only places I've visited and have friends who can care for her....

Only the Arab world dey fear me (as in Jordan matter).

Heard loads of interesting info about how med. practice whichever it is, is valuable and recognized outside our shores.....

I know 5 nurses working at Portharcourt Teaching hospital that are presently making arrangement to port out of this country. One told me she almost wept when her class mate in school told her what she earns as a nurse in Canada. I pity any health worker or student planning to practice here. Dublin is better in pay than Jordan. I have a cousin that graduated from Economics Unizik, found herself in the USA ,went back to school there and did nursing. She is fully made now and puts smiles on her family's face.Let your sister start making plans in her final year. This issue of porting may encourage our herbalists to develop the original African medicine. I know all these because I am a doctor with plans almost completed to port out soon.

I am sorry to say that those who want to make a fair living out of medical practice in Nigeria of today will be disappointed. Successive government s have ignored this vital sector preferring to always favor the national assembly, Police (their escort provider) etc. The young aspiring ones can leave. The older ones may come into business like I did many years ago, or go into politics if they must survive. There are many things to change before our Nigeria can breathe again.

Well, abandoning the same institution that trains you with the insufficient facilities you're complaining about is not really fair.

Where they trained for free?,you need to visit some hospitals and see the conditions their doctors have to work under,I have a doctor friend who did almost 3 days straight call, the guy was so exhausted I felt sorry for him, doctors also deserve a decent life after spending almost 7 - 10 years in sch.The government needs to do more.

every Nigerian believes his/ her problem is money, up until that money is given and the problem even worsens, they remind of me a certain ASUU who believe that quality education is directly proportional to their salaries and allowances, and yet when their demands are acceded to, it seems like the tertiary education sector becomes worse.
