An Igbo indigene has never been the governor of Lagos state till date, therefore any development happening or has happened in the past should be attributed to Lagos present and past leaders (Yorubas). Lagos development was traced back to Portuguese merchants and British colonialist using Lagos as port and administrative centre before the discovery oil. Lagos has been the most developed land before the era of ground nut pyramid, oil boom and Igbo/Hausa immigrants. Then, the word Nigeria was never in existence.

So how did Igbo built Lagos?
Igbos are known for businesses like clothing shops, spare parts, and other street hawking business. Can these businesses develop Lagos? Yes, they can contribute to the development of Lagos but not the large Chunk of development.
The way Igbo’s are into Spare Part and all, we also have Chinese, Lebanese, Indians traders in Lagos paying tax, yet they are not claiming to be solely developing Lagos.

Tax DSTV, MTN paying to Lagos state per month is more that the tax of 50,000 Igbo traders.

For enlightenment, these are the businesses making Lagos.

MTN, GLO, DSTV, schlumberger, Lever Brothers, Unilevers, Indo foods, FirstBank, GTBANK, TOTAL, Samsung, EKO Hotel, Cocacola and thousands of multinational firms.

With their tax alone, Lagos can develop at its own pace.

Finally, all tribes are contributing to the development of Lagos state. I know some mallams from Kano who have invested Billions in Lagos. Look out for Lagos Bureau de change. I have not seen any Hausa man claiming to built Lagos alone. Yorubas may be the dominating tribe, but Lagos was not built by Yorubas alone.

Yorubas are just beneficiary of the nature of Lagos. Sea, Port and Population.

Have your say.

Lagos state geographically belongs to no other than the Yorubas, collectively built by all I.e Portuguese, British etal. Lagos state was discovered by the Aworis originally from the Yoruba tribe while it was dominated by the Binins. The igbos became tenants during 1900s.

There's a lot of igbo culture being promoted in the Igbo-British community. Have a look at their channel.

You are not CURRENT then. Please do not bother disturbing Google, simply search NAIRALAND. I read one of their latest claim on nairaland just few days ago. Have you heard about THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF LAGOS? You can google that.

Typical Afonja; very ungrateful. Yeah this 20 billion naira corporate office in the heart of Lagos owned by Nestoil/Obikackson who pays over 10 billion naira in taxes and duties every year is also owned by a multi-national abi? This is the problem with you afonjas; you have zero appreciation for people helping to support you in taxes, money used to pay salaries of your fathers and mothers, whom are 90% civil servants. You are not ashamed you are naming multi-nationals, why not name yoruba companies? You can't because there is non of tangible significance. 99% of companies in Ogun are multi-nationals.

How I arrived at the tax and duty figures for dumb afonajs asking. Nestoil makes over 200 billion naira in sales, assume he nets 100 billion naira, common sense will tell you he pays 10-15% in federal and state tax. You haven't added millions it cost to clear its goods, and berth its ships and barges at the ports; some of these vessels can run over 1 million a day in berth fees.

Ebitu Ukiwe and Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu governed Lagos state maybe you are too young to know.
Lagos state belong to indigenous people of Lagos state not a Yoruba from Kwara or Osun.

If the millions of Igbo traders don't bank with GTB, UBA, Zenith bank etc, how will the banks generate tax for the state? How will the banks employ people who then pay PAYE tax to the state?

If the millions of Igbo traders do not own shops in various markets, how would the LG authorities generate levies and rates from the markets?

If the millions of Igbo businesses do not use MTN, Glo and Airtel, how will those companies generate tax for the state?

If the millions of Igbo traders who own properties in Lagos do not own properties in Lagos, how much would the state generate in property tenement rates?

If the millions of Igbo traders do not pay 'owo da' to area boys aka omo oniles, how will the omo oniles feed and send their children to school?

Ponder on these few points.

Rather, igbo polluted Lagos with everything evil and negative.
Compare Lagos scenes before and after the war that brought the influx of the igbos to see the difference.

We igbos are DEVELOPERS as our envious critics termed us. We develope anywhere we go. We turn other tribes' bushes into cities except our own. We are one of the mightest forces that develove Lagos state and other emerging townships. Remove igbos from Lagos and you have a Lagos without its present alore. Igbo people, no doubt, are a great force to recorn whith in Lagos state. But it irritates me when people say that Lagos is a NO MAN'S LAND. Haba! Can we say that Asaba is a no man's land just because it has people from different tribes populating it? Even Binins are even saying that they own Lagos. Hebei!

Lagos was not a bush you turned to a city. Lagos was a far more organized and sane city before the influx of ibos after the war. Lagos made ibos not the other way around.
Don't forget, ibos are not the only Nigerians living and working in Lagos though they appear to be the loudest. How many bushes have you been able to turn to cities in the east?
I will never understand what is behind this boastful attitude of some of our ibo compatriots, if Nigeria goes tomorrow, mark my words nobody will sit down with you anywhere to discuss whether Lagos is part of Yorubaland or not.
For now, tone down the rhetorics and behave like other Nigerians. Dangote alone is building a $15 billion refinery in Lagos and that is besides billions more in other investments and we haven't heard him saying he own Lagos.

There is no argument. Without the Igbo and only because of the seaport, Lagos could as well just been like Oshogho or Ibadan. For once give it to them, the Igbos, they may not be good politicians but nobody can deny the fact that they are top top capitalist! They are top top business people!

They actually came to SW as labourers and wheelbarrow pushers for Yoruba traders back in the days. Read up their story in Idumota, Obalende, Yaba, Oyingbo etc. you'll be shocked.

Just like they say, when a slave is given too much freedom, over time the slave will class him/herself owner. If care is not taken, the slave can hatch off evil plans to take over the house and displace the rightful owners.

They have been nursing that agenda from the time of Zik to Ojukwu who tried to deceive Awolowo into making SW slaves under them.

The war has really corrected so many wrongs, Infact it's Yorubas that benefited most.
My only anger is why Yorubas allowed them back into SW. Those people deserve animal treatment honestly.

If these afonjas have sense, they will be thanking this Igbo man for borrowing from GTB because he is paying over 15% on interest; extra money for yorubaas. If doesn't borrow it, where will your GT bank make money from? Ndi afonja ewekwa aku n uche?
