sethmelia002: Nobody is getting ready for this other than the payment of owed scholars and the release of the 2017 list. If this board members think they can do and undo with people's lives then this will mark their exit from the appointment. Suspending the scheme temporarily was hard to take but outright cancelling of that process with all the pains that pple went through will be strongly resisted. Go and tell them that. |

I regret the cancellation as I have waited for months for this issue to be resolved only the confirm last week on the status of the 2017 set and I have been told it has been cancelled and we need to prepare for new application coming up soon. |

viewingthistopic: Right!! If we don't act and act now, believe me nothing will be done. I am of the opinion that are lots of options on the table and being violent or disruptive is not ruled out. In the country, the gentle ones don't get attention and the violent ones get all attention. I can bet you, the total number of persons making us pass through untold hardship are not up to 200 and head-to-heelad, they are not match for the total number of scholars by academic qualifications and gross mental output. It is now up to us to chart our course, if we must b free. Like rightly said, it's been cancelled and they have analysed our state of calm and concluded that we cannot do anything but they militants who threatened to blow up the pipelines got immediate attention even from the Federal lawmakers. The moral of the story is that if we don't come out or issue serious threats with grievous consequences should they suspend the 2017 list, they won't act. We are being treated this way because they feel we are too educated to be violent. But I must tell us that we are in a better position and have the best comparative advantage to cause serious economic harm to this nation should the govt suspend the program. If we have a clear cut objective and work together as à team, I bet you, the govt will yield to our demands. It is now in our court to either make or break the situation. If we don't act, they will not act, just as they have not acted by leaving the list there. But if we act, they will act by attending to the list. I do not think if 200 persons match on the street of PH to the NDDC Office , Nsima Ekere will not come out. Even the president at aso rock will be informed of our presence by the DSS. By them we will tell them why we are there. God will not come down to fight this battle for us unless do something about it. The ball is now in our court whether to act or to let it go. sethmelia002: You are talking like we are jobless people. Many people who applied for the 2017 scholarship award already got jobs to do. So how many are ready or willing to go back to PH to do a test and then an interview for something that the outcome was never revealed? What sense does that make? If this one didn't click why would that one click? How is it possible that something like that was cancelled for no just reason? It can only be cancelled if they discovered that something illegal happened during the Test/Interview process but this is not the case. I want to go with what the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs said which is that the scheme has been suspended. I don't know where you got your information from but I think the issue in this forum is that many people want attention. If you are not the MD or a staff in NDDC you should at least provide a source for the information provided. You may not necessarily provide the name of the person but you can provide the designation or position. It is only the MD or the minister or the Chairman that can speak authoritatively on this, and they have stated clearly that once payment is made to past scholars, the scheme will kick off. That makes sense. What won't make sense is telling people to re-apply again. I mean for what purpose? Your 10,000 naira stipends was not paid so what gives you assurance that it will be paid once you reapply again? What even gives you assurance that the list will be released if you re-apply again? Have they come out with a press statement to explain why they are cancelling it and reassuring people that if they did re-apply, everything will go fine? The crux of the whole issue is outstanding payments. I don't see any reason why once this is done they can't release the list. Except they are saying that there is no money for us. All I wait for now is the payment of owed scholars after which we will take it from there. @ Sethmelia u rightly put it that the minister is mindful of the showdown & outcry if anything happens to the list not being released. Thank God they know and you know. Our silence so far is out of reasoning and understanding for our friends who are owed. @ Sethmelia, Why has ur source not informed you about the timeline for the payment of owed scholars same way he/she told u of the new application timeline? To be honest with you I didn't see a need in asking what exact time the pending funds will be remitted, not because I wasn't concerned but I just figured out that it is of not so much an urgency not from the previous set point of view, but from a current set already in waiting.Think about it this way, if it has already been cancelled what's the point of asking the exact time of when previous set will be paid .They have already said the previous set will be paid and ours will have to undergo a fresh application.And I am sure they would have completed the settling of accrued debt before embarking on fresh applications. But trust me with these guys anything can happen. God knows the end .My two cents!!!. |

sethmelia002: I understand your viewpoint with respect to 2017 set, sethmelia, but these guys need to pay us asap. It is beyond urgent for me (and fellow scholars) as for instance any expense claim I am entitled to as a PhD student (we attend and present in conferences outside school and overseas sometimes), my school always withhold my claims' and pay it towards my debts. Nddc has given themselves a bad name here in the UK and if they do not clean house asap, home office will not accept scholarship letters as proof of funds anymore. So in that sense, it affects the new intakes even more. As I said earlier, they always beat around the bush anytime I inquire about our funds, but roughly 3 weeks ago was the only time they actually responded with a different message (we are processing your payments) - fingers crossed. Naija will never cease to disgrace us. If I could take legal action, I swear I will. This wickedness has to stop. |

Ladies and Gentlemen, this problem has lingered for too long with no end in sight. The Mgt have deliberately negleted scholars to wallow in pain in the disguise of auditing the scheme endlessly for over 9months. This will affect the future of this scheme. They will never do this to their relatives. Is it a crime to be a Nigerian? The privilege few have subjected us to hardship while their wards squander our collective wealth. This scholarship scheme is a hope for the gifted of the common man but it has been hijacked and made a mess by those we hold in trust. We are now in democracy and enough of the commando style of administration without accountability. This MD jst bagged a media award for nothing. we have to take to same media and other means in demanding for what is ours. Let ur conscience speak to u,for this suffering & silence is too much. Abike Dabiri has asked the Owed scholars that thru their rep to establish communication via email with her on this issue. The effort so far on social media seems to be yielding fruits. However the pressure has to continue or else it'll be a waste of time since the Mgt are skilled in diversion and delay tactics. Keeping quiet and waiting on empty promises has caused so much damage. Imagine over 9months of endless audit for less than 200 scholars. Nobody shld believe any stroy until the payments are secured. Keep shouting till alert drops cos they are insensitive and insincere. |

I lay claim to no source, and I claim no connection to any top man, but if this week runs out and scholars are not paid, then something is fundamentally wrong with NDDC and the scholarship process. For those NDDC agents who are on this platform to test the waters for their masters, by flying the kite of cancellation of the 2017 scholarship process, pls tell your masters that there is a legal process called mandamus,which some of us will not hesitate to take. You can not cancel a process which has been completed, to go and start a fresh process. How do you then justify the millions spent to conduct that process. They should equally know that there exists a contractual relationship between NDDC and the applicants which is enforceable in law. 4 Likes |
