Hi Guys,

I just found that we can track our PR CARDs using our CIC Account.

Here's the procedure:

1. Login to CIC account
2. Go to 'Link an existing application to this account'
3. Category: Permanent Resident Card
4. Then select which way you prefer. I realized some of these ways don't work so I recommend using 'UCI number and Family name'. I tried others and those didn't work for me. Only this one worked.

Make sure all the information is correct, then you'd be able to link the application.
https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/track-your-pr-card-using-cic-account.508031/

Date applied should be the date you were stamped in on your COPR.

Once it's (PR card) approved, you will get an email notification that profile has been updated. You will be able to see the PR card details, expiration date etc in your cic profile.

Seems a lot of people are interested in your template. Maybe you can just paste the template sample here so we dont derail the thread with multiple template requests.

Try to apply for an international driving permission online at this service https://idaoffice.org , it won't take much time and almost any efforts. This company can also help you out with translation of your license, as far as I am concerned they work with 29 languages.

Hi Adeza,

Congrats on your bundle of joy cheesy

Please what was the process of applying for child benefits? I thought one is only eligible after filing tax returns. Did you file tax returns immediately you landed.

I'll appreciate if you can give a little more detail on this.

Thanks.

Tax returns for the current year are filed between jan1 and april 30th of the following year. So tax returns for 2017 should be filed on or before april 30th 2018. If a pr landed in 2017 then s/he would file taxes next year. For child benefit, you don't need to have filed taxes if you are a newly landed immigrant, the form would explain to you how to declare your income prior to landing in Canada.

Hi Rocorleone,

How long does it take to get the international driver's licence in Nigeria. I renewed my Nigerian driver's licence since June and up till now its not ready, so I'm thinking of getting the intl licence if it is processed faster.

Hello Everyone,

I am new on this platform but will like to render advise to the mums relocating to Canada soon as i moved from naija to toronto about 4 months ago. I have a 6 year old son and a 2 year old daughter. Kids cant start school until they turn 4, so for mums that intend to start work once they get here,
*make sure you immediately register your child in the daycare as most day cares have a very long wait-list .
*Also register your child for subsidy as the government subsidizes the daycare fee which for new comers its mostly free the first year . This also has a wait-list that might take a months.
*For Pr holders , health is free but you are only entitled to a health card after being a resident for 3 months . So if you or your kids have any medications you have been on back home in naija please bring it along or else you will pay a doctor's fee of $65-$100 depending on the walk-in clinic . The doctor's fee isn't inclusive of medication.
*If you are coming in the summer, try to visit the nearest community centres near you as they have a lot of fantastic programmes for adults and kids e.g drop-in for early years, parent relief ,etc.

This is all i can remember for now. I hope someone on this platform finds this helpful .

hi yetty. please what part of toronto do you live in?i've been trying to get people from toronto to respond but they dont seem to be many. can i ask if you started work already and the kind of apartment you have in toronto? thanks

Hi, I've been driving for over 22 years and I still saw the wisdom in getting a driving instructor to show me the ropes when I got here and was ready for my practical road test. You'll need to unlearn a lot of what we do in Nigeria that we mistakenly call driving and familiarise yourself with the peculiarities of proper driving in Canada. As a good driver, you might only need 2 or 3 road lessons and you're good to go smiley

Hi seniors,

Please I need your advice.

I have a Swiss issued driving licence and we have a reciprocal agreement with Canada which means I can exchange my Swiss licence for the Canadian licence but there's a catch: My licence has to be at least two years old to get a full G licence otherwise I'll have to take a G2 test.

My problem is I plan to land mid next year and my licence would only be 18-19 months old and I read that you have a maximum of 60 days after landing to exchange. Please what would you advice in this scenario?

Thanks for your anticipated response.

Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by Virt: 12:11pm On Nov 27, 2017
Do you have the luxury of postponing your landing? say 3 months forward. That way you can attain 24months after 60days of landing.

Apart from the above, I do not see another way around it.

Thanks Virt. Yeah, that's the dilemma. My COPR expires October and my licence will be 2 years in January.

I have paid boatload of money to get the Swiss licence and don't want to pay anymore for the damn licence.

If you can't postpone your landing till later, then when you land and the 60 days are up, take your licence to the Drive Test centre and see if you get a waiver on the remaining 3 months to reach 2 years. You could also get a letter from Switzerland attesting to your good driving conduct thus far similar to the letter of good conduct we get from FRSC in Nigeria. You never know till you try and if they don't waive the remaining time, just do the G2 and get to driving. In less than 6 months, you can take the full G.

Thank you Sir,

I guess I'm gonna do as you suggested. It is just so frustrating that I had to pay through my ears to get the Swiss licence and I'm gonna have to pay again to for Canadian licence.

By the way, thanks for the good work. I have benefitted immensely form your (and other senior colleagues) insights.

You'll take the basic road test and when you have up to 24 months you'll go back and take the advanced road test. So if you land at 18 months, then after 60 days uou would have 20 months. You exchange it for a Gdl or G2 license and after 4 months go back and take d advanced test and get a full G license. Confirm with the registry on arrival first that you can do this.

Well, I've been driving for longer than 6yrs and I can say I'm a good driver not naija crazy type. Then i drove here for almost 90 days before my road test. If you read the book, watch youtube vids for clarification on rules you aren't sure of you'll be fine. However, I'll advice you get ab instructor for one session before your road test. I had one session for an hour just before my road test so he could point out any errors but I realized later that some instructors know the possibke route the road test examiner would take you through so it's worth paying for.

Hi Blackbuddy, I would like to know if the internship/ Bridging programs offered by Acces is free or if it comes at a cost and are the programs available in Ottawa for people who want to be in the Financial Services sector? Thanks.
Blackbuddy:

This is very nice of you to share @ballerz. I highly recommend that people join this webinar and also register with Acces Employment at their website for their newcomer services. I am an alumni of their program and attest to the fantastic service.

The cost of Acces programmes are heavily subsidized by the Federal and Provincial governments to assist newcomers. I learnt they actually cost about $2,500 but you pay only $500.00. We were told this is to ensure you have a stake in the process and make you committed since you spent some money for it and that makes sense. During the program, everyone fills a form to get a refund from the government through OBAP- Ontario Bridging Assistance Program. Some people get partial refund of the $500, some get full refund. They have a way of calculating it based on need, family size, amount of funds available in their budget. I got full refund of the $500 after the programme so it ended up being free for me. Checking Acces website, they have no location in Ottawa. See here, http://www.accesemployment.ca/index.php/contact-us/acces-locations

Ballerz:

1 & 2. Yes Temporary License because they will post the license to your address within 90 days. So the one printed on paper can be used while waiting for the one in the mail.

With your FRSC License, and Letter, you will go for the knowledge test, then G1 road test or G2 road test. The letter makes you skip the waiting times (12 - 18 months before you can proceed to the next level test.) Check page 11 of the manual for better clarification. So with the letter you do the Knowledge Test proceed to G2 road test, pass and collect your G License.

Your Nigerian License is expired. The manual says "If you are a new resident of Ontario and have a valid driver's licence from another province or country, you can use that license for 60 days in Ontario. If you want to continue to drive after 60 days, you must get an Ontario driver's license."

You need to get that FRSC letter to claim waiver for the 2 years waiting time. I had previously posted where You can make a request via email to them. They collected the original of the letter. You must also present the Nig License because they will need to make a copy of it.
