Its left for you to prove at that point or get your visa cancelled.
Have you not read stories of people depoted at US POE due to insufficient funds? It happens all the time.
Example: in your DS160 and interview, you claimed you don't know anyone, and you claimed staying for 14days , then you show up at POE with $150 only, it doesnt add up. There are a lot of scenarios

The thing is that, never let it reach that level, always have enough cash on you, hotel confirmed , connected flight ticket , return tickets etc.

Now, we're scheduled for the vacation in less than two weeks we already booked return ticket Lagos/NY (instead of return ticket to Disney World mentioned last year). Myself & wife would love to visit NY (booked hotel accommodation already) and after a week head to Disney World Florida (also hotel booking) because of our children.

My question: Do you think this may be an issue at PoE as to why return ticket Lagos/NY instead of return ticket Lagos/Florida?

what you wrote in the visa application when filling is what the cpb looks at the port of entry. Why not land there, and book a connecting flight to where ever you want to go.

You may not have issue since you re travelling as a family rather than as an individual, but if asked, you can defend yourself.

Two things to sort out here.
Not staying with friend and change of POE.
I suggest pre-booking a hotel in Chicago for one or two nights so that POE can check where you are staying (if they ask.)
Have a GOOD story why you are in Chicago not New Jersey (include the truth that your friend is away.)
Have an itinerary of what you will be doing. (DO NOT SAY HUSSLING!)

you re right but these cbp are humans and are considerate. It is harder to deport entire family than an individual.
