School And Work At The Same Time. How Feasible? Advice Needed. by LordeCalifornia: 10:58pm On Dec 03, 2017
I am a student and my academic grades are very important to me. but I have a little issue.
I want to know if it is possible to study and work at the same time without having issues with my academic performance.
If yes, can I know the type of jobs that I can take and still be able to squeeze out time for my academics?

generally, is it even advisable to work while in college?

grin grin grin grin

Don't get carried away, engage in portable jobs like fixing electronics, computers and mobile phones. Then there's cutting hair and running a cab.

Any job that involves timesheets should be avoided.

Proverbs 22:29
Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.

It depends on the kind of work you intend to do, note that you can do partime if it's full time paid employment you are looking at.

Number one where is your location...

Because from the way you write the story now, one will be tempted to think you are schooling "in the abroad"

The only work that can aid your academics is to be a home tutor. My opinion though.

It's hard to do but not impossible... I would recommend getting a job on campus or better yet getting a job in the school itself... My cousin worked as an assistant librarian at Afe and she said it was very convenient smiley wink...good luck with school

If by work U mean typical Nigerian definition of working 7-4, U go fail tire considering our lecturers attach more importance to attendance than d contents of their handouts... Its easier if u'll b running a shift based or time based job which is not in a Nigerian employer's dictionary..

It's very possible, the work must be a part-time work. I did that when I was in school.

In my own case I work part time especially during holidays and sometimes weekends. I work in a printing press as an operator and also have a good relationship with my boss. Since mine is part time, when I'm in school I totally forget about work and face my studies and when its the weekend or holidays I do same to school too.

Won't lie to you it wasn't easy at first, cos after the holidays sometimes you struggle to sometimes catch up with school, cos most times you tend to forget little things you've learned previously.

All you really need is to separate both, and create time for serious studies (have a time table for all your courses and stick to it).

It depend on your choice of course and institution.
Your place of work, whether its private owned or government.
For Example...
In UNIZIK. You can't possibly be working in a private firm no matter how close it is to the school, and be studying any course under Engineering faculty most especially Electrical,Mechanical,Electronics&Computer Engineering .
My 2L grade was nothing to write home about cos I was working schooling, had to jilt the job.

80% of Nigerians studying abroad work and study at the same time....your working and schooling at the same time could be

1) Owing your own business within the school premises

2) Doing freelance jobs online ( especially IT related )

3) Or doing a part time job within the proximity of your school

In this age....everyone studying or not should find something doing that regularly brings in a bit of income...Prioritization will enable you keep the balance between work and study
