Customers Are Always Right; How True Is This View? by Nobody: 8:55pm On Dec 06, 2017
A very troublesome customer who had once walked away with my company's money after making purchase came to make another purchases again at my workplace few days ago.He gave me two hot slap simply because I demanded for payment before service.I retaliated by giving him a blow in his mouth. And the management queried me for retaliating. They said customers are always right.Dont I,as a staff have right too?My grievance with all this employers is that when a customer walk away with their money, the employer will not say the customer is right for running away with payment. They will quickly deduct the money from the staff salary at the end of the month. But,when a staff argue with a customer who refuse to pay after service, they will say customers are always right. They can even fine such staff.Well,i have resign sha.

you were very wrong! you should not have assaulted the customer in retaliation. The customer is NOT always right, but you should NEVER disrespect, victimise or assault your customers. Treat the customer as if they are right

We common nigerians are right.

Buhari performance on economy is badly bad.
Re: Customers Are Always Right; How True Is This View? by oluphilip2008(f): 7:03am On Dec 07, 2017
In Nigeria, customers are not always right. Many of them are just out to frustrate you. You as the employee has the right to defend yourself too. A customer who did not hesitate to slap you twice simply for doing your job doesn't deserve your respect. You have your own dignity to protect too and I love the fact that you defended yourself.

So sorry you had to resign. Better one ahead.
Hope you have some savings to sustain you till another one comes though.

not always but ...
Re: Customers Are Always Right; How True Is This View? by beejayphako(m): 7:06am On Dec 07, 2017
Sincerely have always pondered on that too. Some customers are devilish and the employers in turn act dumb sometimes in my own opinion. Where i work, if you make a mistake of giving out goods to whom you arent supposed to give to, you will have its money deducted from your salary.
Something happened recently, an egyptian woman claimed she wanted supply for her and her neighbor (thats not booked for). The other guy was trying to let her know its not possible cos the conpany already gave the list of whom to supply to, and those ppl are waiting too and would complain if there supply is short. This woman just dey argue argue, enter vehicle carry goods by force o and put it at the back of her door. The other guy had to take it back and put inside the vehicle. Thats how the woman threatened to call the police that he had no right to pick something behind her door without permission, that he had burgled her apartment and the guy said to her she burgled his vehicle first and he will tell the police to check the cam.
This woman called the company line, complained and like two supervisors came. They gave the woman stock ( for her neighbooor) and extra two .
Back at the office, they told the guy the extra two will be deducted from his salary and then he will get additional warning letter. The dude was so pissed and told them he cant sign, and they were like they will sack him and then he agreed.
This is a company that if he had given the woman the stock, they will query him, if he inform them back at the office , they will definitely tell him not to give the woman the stock.
To protect the company/personal interest na wahala.

That quote by Harry Selfridge in 1909 was made simply to draw customers to his departmental store Selfridges.

Many just use it without considering why it was coined at first. In the real world this is a fallacy.

1. Some Customers Are Bad for Business. These are called toxic customers who should be avoided by any means possible.

2. It Gives unruly Customers an unfair advantage and makes employee's work harder. This produces unhappy staff and affects performance and also affects customer service like the OP's case

3. Some customers are just wrong and can never be pleased

Modified

In UK banks there is always a sign for all to see that verbal or physical abuse of staff will be met by prosecution.

According to the marketing concept, the customers are always right.
Because, the customers holds the key to make your business thrive and also to liquidate your business....your business prosperity solely depends on customer patronage, hence this equate his utility drived from consuming your service or product .

Summary, never argue with a customer let alone fight one, else he spends his money elsewhere.

What customer in his sane mind would slap you without any provocation?.
Something about this story doesn't add up.

Customers always right, your company thrives because the customers patronize your business.

If you treat them badly there are other businesses that sell your products, hence your customers may turn to them.

The customer committed a crime.

Police needed to be invited into the matter. Instead of you beating him back.

Assaulting a customer is wrong but as any business owner knows, the customer isn't always right. In fact the customer is wrong a whole lot of the time.

But it's a good mantra to follow as it allows you to make allowance for them and trick them into always coming back because of their false sense of sovereignty.

The customer is not always right. I think the correct phrase should be "the customer is king"

Yes.. That's the principle on paper. However most feel that's an avenue to talk to you rudely, rain insults on you. Having a business has taught me how to be accommodate all sorts of personalities i encounter in the course of business. Most of these Customers can never be satisfied whatever you do, an entrepreneur just has to learn how to manage them effectively.

I don't support assault on a customer either. But do you think it is sane for a customer to have raised his hand at a staff, and not just hand raising, but one that came with a slap?

Please read what you posted again ooooh.

As far as the person is called a customer, they are always right no matter the circumstances . Someone will not just slap you for asking them to pay. You lack customer relation skill. If it's my copy I will fire your a**
Re: Customers Are Always Right; How True Is This View? by psalmson001: 7:20am On Dec 07, 2017
Go enter danfo and tell the conductor say customer is right / king, then u go know how far.

Back to the mata......rather that retaliating, call the attention of the manager or supervisor coz u are the only one that has something to loose by retaliating (ur job). Such customers believe that staff in front line desk are below them and as a result can be threated anyhow. The only person they want to relate with is the manager. Front line staff just have to be very smart inbdealing with such customers.

Customers are not always right but never tell them they are wrong. While working as a restaurant waiter before I gained admission, I was slapped twice and I didn't retaliate but that was because I was too young then. My reaction today would be different.
