Charging this Vehicle isn't any different from your other electronics gadgets. Once you follow the power ratings, you're cool.

It's not as difficult as we think

Oh, good then.

Any electronics engineer can fix this. You simply test for discontinuity. It's easier to diagnose and repair than a petrol engine
You are right.

I don't think lack of EV stations will be much of an issue to me.

The car can go 140+ km on full charge and you can get 80% battery power on a 30mins charge. That is enough for me.

I just need it as a leisure car and not something for long distance travel.

I live in a community with almost constant light and i work from home most times.

I just need a substitute car i can drive to church, mall or club.

I’m not trying to discourage you or anything like that. EV cars are great and in fact the future of automobiles. But the Nigerian society is not ready for such technology now. There is normal wear and tear associated with car usage, not just a matter of charging battery. Take a look around for half-EV cars (aka hybrids). How many hybrid cars last in Nigeria? Once the technicians start touching it for one issue or another, that’s the beginning of the end. How many used hybrid cars hold value in terms of re-sale in Nigeria? Very few. If that is the case with hybrids (half-EV), how much more a full EV car. But like I said, it’s a matter of choice and affordability. If you like it and don’t mind its maintenance costs, then by all means go ahead. You will no doubt enjoy it when it’s working fine. When i’m very rich too, I will definitely love to buy EV cars.

Battery is the problem. 24kwh battery goes for about 1'million naira. Very soon Nigerian middlemen will start bringing in substandard batteries from Taiwan and Indonesia. Mediocre techicians will key in. In summary maintenance is going to be a major issue. Nice though.

And of what use is an all electric car in a country where there is total blackout 85 % of the time?

Average nigerians haven't seen electricity for months to charge their cell phones so how will they charge the car??

While the world is talking about all electric cars, Nigeria and other "under" "under" underdeveloped nations should invest in solar powered car.

At least, Sun doesn't require corruption to shine. It's free for all..

your last statement, you are damn funny lol

Not too expensive for those abroad but very very very expensive for people in Nigeria based on the exchange rate. We don’t produce them (yet), so they are imported items. A leaf charging cable costs about $600, which is over 200K. And we’re not even talking about the battery of the car itself, a battery that inevitably needs to be replaced from time to time under normal usage, just like inverter batteries used to supply lights. do you know how expensive the battery is? Not to mention if the battery mistakenly damages before its normal replacement time due to surge or electrical failure or charging malfunction. So electric cars are not cheap to maintain at all, and for now are not 100% reliable, otherwise everyone in America and Europe would be driving electric vehicles already. But here in Nigeria we don’t even have the support system in place to handle it, no EV stations, no EV lube bays, no EV technicians - so how does the owner cope here? Then again, using generators to charge is a risky thing because it might damage the battery quicker than expected. So for now, I don’t think it’s a good idea to buy a EV car in a non-EV standardized country.

You have some very good valid points. However, there are certain things missed out.

You do not need a Lube shop any longer as you don't need to replace engine Oil.
Maintenence cost is much cheaper than the gas engine and despite the fact we have power issues in nigeria, it still makes sense.

Lemme make some highlights
1. Cost savings on Oil Change
2. Cost savings on brake pads as they use regenerative pads that can last over 500,000 miles
3. Cost savings on fuel. You can install a solar panel and charge for FREE.
4. No fuel pump service/replacement, No Plugs or Nozzle Service.

If you look at all thessential and compare notes, you would see that maintenance is lower compared to a gas/diesel engine.

Just like in every fields/profession. Be it accounting, IT, Politics, Pastor information, innovation is the order of the day and you need to upgrade your skills daily.

Picture shows a practical learning process going on on EV Vehicles.

This is a typical EV engine.

This is a typical inspection machine that is needed to trace faults on EV Vehicles. Smaller and half held devices would be made soon for ease of repairs.

But that doesn't mean some mechanics aren't professionals at it.

Same way in developed countries, not all mechanics can fix electric vehicles. So we shouldn't expect that here.

But there are professionals at it already.

Is it sinful to use it for 51 years if I can and if it will stay? This car won't even last 2years here with our road and conditions of maintenance at the moment. In the days of J Allens, UTC and SCOA Motors and other vehicle sale/maintenance companies, it would have been ok. What we have now are thiefing mediocre road side charlatans. The more you take your cars to them, the more the break it down - for a fee.
