It's shocking that so far not a single person has grasped what is really happening here, with everybody rushing to make the same old nonsensical claims about "cabals" and so forth. There's no need to invoke absurd conspiracy theories here, as it's a mere matter of rank incompetence borne out of utter economic illiteracy.

In truth the problem is very simple, and its solution just as simple: fuel is scarce because Buhari's government refused to let the retail price float and capped it at N145, but in the meantime the international price of crude oil has risen from its low last year of $25/barrel or so to nearly $60/barrel, and the prices of refined petroleum products haven risen correspondingly.

There would be no shortages now had Buhari simply abolished the price controls on fuel, but since he didn't have the brains or the guts to do so, the result is that there will continue to be shortages nationwide until either international oil prices collapse, Buhari allows the retail price to truly float, or he diverts some of the precious extra revenue from higher oil prices into subsidizing fuel at N145 per liter, at the expense of all the transport projects he'd promised to work on. As Buhari is already in campaign mode, I expect him to choose the worst possible option and squander the unexpected revenues on "cheap" petrol to keep you all happy, even as your roads stay unrepaired for lack of funds to fix them.

Deceitful government keep deceiving your citizens. When they have exhausted all excuses for their inability to maintain adequate supply and monitoring on the dubious marketer. I brought a liter of petrol for 150 naira and they are here saying there's no increase. Keep deceiving us.

Calm down bros. The report came after the stakeholders' meeting this afternoon.

Double check the tweet or the reports elsewhere, you would see where it says "queues expected to thin out completely in the next few days.

Come to think of it, the scarcity is consciously created by citizens (like you and I) who feels they are very privileged and see it fit to take advantage of the system to rake millions at the expense of the masses.

I am not greedy, so do not include me in your behavioural vice. that you have a selfish character does not mean others share it.

of course the scarcity will end, it always does, but has the root cause been addressed?

The co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG, group, Aisha Yesufu, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to the Senate on why he cannot sack and prosecute indicted Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal.

Recall that Babachir had been alleged to have diverted money meant to fight humanitarian crisis in the North East, and the senate had called for his arrest and prosecution.

But Buhari, on Monday had explained why he cannot honour the senate’s report calling for Lawal’s arrest, prosecution and sack.

In her reaction, Yesufu called out the President, saying the reason for his defense was because he was corrupt.

In a series of tweets on her Twitter handle‏@AishaYesufu , she called on Buhari to resign.

She tweeted: “Does the President need the senate to even sack d SGF? You must not only talk tough. You must act it.

“It’s surprisingly amazing. President Buhari that was using sachet of milk and beverage now carrying teapot in London. Wahala dey.

“I will rather die imprisoned for saying the truth than become Defender of the Corrupt like President Buhari.

“Democracy is not fraud. The win for me was that we changed a sitting government and we would again Insha Alla.

“If Pres Buhari @MBuhari has any shred of honour, character & integrity he should RESIGN. Enough of the damage that might last a generation.

“If President Buhari can clear someone that stole 200m from vulnerable IDPs in this type of recession, then imagine what he would have done in abundance.

“Either Babachir looted on behalf of Buhari or President Buhari has looted more and Babachir has evidence or PMB is going senile.

“In Nigeria when one is poor one is faceless, nameless and voiceless. President Buhari whom the poor supported massively just reaffirmed it.

“Rich Nigerians must get fair hearing. The rest can be lynched for whatever reason on the streets. Whatever you do, don’t be poor in Nigeria.

“In Nigeria it seems stealing is not crime. It’s stealing small amount or stealing while you are poor or with no connection that’s the crime.

“Rich Nigerians must get fair hearing. The rest can be lynched for whatever reason on the streets. Whatever you do, don’t be poor in Nigeria.

“And I would give up on it if you actually stood up for him.”

fuel scarcity happens for varied reasons.

the only time Nigerians really had 'bad' scarcity due to government's ineptitude was between 1994-1998 (coincidental, pmb was a key member of the administration, I wonder why the useless man did not build new refineries then).

ON AMERICAN RADIO THIS MORNING THE FOLLOWING WAS SAID BY A WHITE PERSON:

*DON'T BLAME LIBYA, BLACKS WILL ALWAYS BE SLAVES*

For those of us who heard it, this is the article Dee Lee was reading this morning on a New York radio station. For those who didn't hear it here is the full detail:

Dee Lee, CFP Harvard Financial Educators

THEY ARE STILL OUR SLAVES We can continue to reap profits from the Blacks without the effort of physical slavery Look at the current methods of containment that they use on themselves: IGNORANCE, GREED, and SELFISHNESS.

Their IGNORANCE is the primary weapon of containment. A great man once said, "The best way to hide something from Black people is to put it in a book." We now live in the Information Age. They have gained the opportunity to read any book on any subject through the efforts of their fight for freedom, yet they refuse to read. There are numerous books readily available at Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com, not to mention their own Black Bookstores that provide solid blueprints to reach economic equality (which should have been their fight all along), but few read consistently, if at all.

GREED is another powerful weapon of containment. Blacks, since the abolition of slavery, have had large amounts of money at their disposal. Last year they spent 10 billion dollars during Christmas, out of their 450 billion dollars in total yearly income (2.22%).

Any of us can use them as our target market, for any business venture we care to dream up, no matter how outlandish, they will buy into it. Being primarily a consumer people, they function totally by greed. They continually want more, with little thought for saving or investing.

They would rather buy some new sneaker than invest in starting a business. Some even neglect their children to have the latest Tommy or FUBU, And they still think that having a Mercedes, and a big house gives them "Status" or that they have achieved their Dream.

They are fools! The vast majority of their people are still in poverty because their greed holds them back from collectively making better communities.

With the help of BET, and the rest of their black media that often broadcasts destructive images into their own homes, we will continue to see huge profits like those of Tommy and Nike. (Tommy Hilfiger has even jeered them, saying he doesn't want their money, and look at how the fools spend more with him than ever before!). They'll continue to show off to each other while we build solid communities with the profits from our businesses that we market to them.

SELFISHNESS, ingrained in their minds through slavery, is one of the major ways we can continue to contain them. One of their own, Dubois said that there was an innate division in their culture. A "Talented Tenth" he called it. He was correct in his deduction that there are segments of their culture that has achieved some "form" of success. However, that segment missed the fullness of his work. They didn't read that the "Talented Tenth" was then responsible to aid The Non-Talented Ninety Percent in achieving a better life. Instead, that segment has created another class, a Buppie class that looks down on their people or aids them in a condescending manner. They will never achieve what we have. Their selfishness does not allow them to be able to work together on any project or endeavor of substance. When they do get together, their selfishness lets their egos get in the way of their goal Their so-called help organizations seem to only want to promote their name without making any real change in their community.

They are content to sit in conferences and conventions in our hotels, and talk about what they will do, while they award plaques to the best speakers, not to the best doers. Is there no end to their selfishness? They steadfastly refuse to see that TOGETHER EACH ACHIEVES MORE (TEAM). They do not understand that they are no better than each other because of what they own, as a matter of fact, most of those Buppies are but one or two pay checks away from poverty. All of which is under the control of our pens in our offices and our rooms.

Yes, we will continue to contain them as long as they refuse to read, continue to buy anything they want, and keep thinking they are "helping" their communities by paying dues to organizations which do little other than hold lavish conventions in our hotels. By the way, don't worry about any of them reading this letter, remember, 'THEY DON'T READ!!!!

Can We Prove them (whites) wrong
Please pass this on! After Reading it.

Truth...

But no politician wants to deregulate the downstream sector...as it means higher prices in the short term. Doesn't win votes.

We should have deregulated as far back as 2006, but no....

GSM was deregulated from the word go. We paid sky high prices...remember the 'packages' that were worth 26000 naira. Now...a sim costs 500 Naira. And some people were calling on OBJ then to bring in price controls.....

DPR to Probe Oando Station for Hoarding as Owner
Threatens Agency: Cautions marketers against under-dispensing to motorists.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has stated that it will investigate the activities of Oando Filling Station in Jakande area of Lekki, following threats by the owner of the station, Otunba Fakorede to sack the staff of the agency for attempting to seal his station for allegedly hoarding about 32,000 litres of petrol.

The agency has also warned operators of retail outlets against hoarding product and under-dispensing to motorists.

Officials of the agency yesterday visited Mobil, Petrocam, Forte Oil, Oando and World Oil filling stations in Victoria Island and Lekki areas as part of the efforts to intensify surveillance of retail outlets and check hoarding, profiteering and other forms of malpractices.

To ensure that the operators of the retail outlets were not shortchanging customers, the officials also checked the integrity of the pumps at the stations.

While Mobil and Petrocham were selling product to motorists without long queues, there was no product at Forte Oil as the station was said to have exhausted the 45,000 litres of petrol it received on Tuesday.

The team sealed World Oil filling station for under-dispensing to motorists.
However, at Oando filling station, the DPR team found out that the station had about 32,000 litres, but was not selling to customers as at the time of the inspection.

When the officials attempted to seal the station for hoarding, the manager and attendants of the retail outlet called Fakorede, who rushed to the station with a retinue of mobile policemen and aides.

While Fakorede was abusing the DPR officials and threatening to deal with them, his attendants and one of his aides were attacking a journalist and a cameraman that accompanied DPR for recording the incident.

The attendants also beat up one driver and tore his clothes after Fakorede had slapped him for recording the incident with his mobile phone and showing open solidarity with the DPR team.
On his part, Fakorede argued that he did not hoard petrol, stressing that both the DPR and OVH Energy (franchise holder of Oando stations) did not supply his station petrol to sell to motorists.

“OVH claimed that they gave me two trucks each on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. But they only gave me one truck in each of those days. So, I went to them today to tell them that since they said that they gave me six trucks when it was only three trucks, they should give me the remaining three trucks. That was what I went to tell them and you can call them to confirm. Why should I hoard product when I struggling to get product to sell? Why should I hoard product at this level and destroy the reputation I have built?” he said.

He could not explain why his station was not selling when it had about 32,000 litres, which was equivalent to one truck, but threatened to use his contacts to sack some of the officials, claiming that it was in his presence that some of them were employed by DPR.

“It was in my presence that they employed Willy and I can sack him. If you give me the name of the other man, I can go beyond DPR to sack him,” he said.

According to him, he was already in the downstream business when some of the officials joined the regulatory agency.

He also threatened one of the leaders of the team and DPR’s Deputy Manager in charge of Retail Outlets and Marketing, at the Corporate Headquarters, Mr. Isa Ibrahim.

The situation almost turned bloody when one of Fakorede’s aides rushed inside his car to collect gun to shoot the cameraman.

But for the timely intervention of Fakorede’s mobile policemen, who whisked the cameraman away, the situation would have turned bloody.

When it became evident that the DPR officials could be over-powered, the leader of the team and DPR’s assistant director in charge of retail outlets’ monitoring at the downstream division, Mrs. Ijeoma Otti-Onyeri had to pacify Fakorede and his men.

She later told journalists that DPR would summon the owner and follow due process in dealing with the incident.

“Whatever happened there; we are not going to take it lightly. We are going to summon them and make sure that due process is followed,” she explained.
