Commodity prices have largely remained stable in the last couple of weeks and in some cases, dipped. Where prices have gone up, demand is also low and competition high.

Extreme planning is essential to arrive at profitability.

Maize prices continue to dip in most location. At N60000 per tonne averagely, its likely to fall further given most harvest will be due soon.

Soya price is also dropping gradually with the trickling harvest. Should arrive at N110/kg by November.

I was able to put this together based on the information shared on this thread. I need clarification on two things
1) Is the entry period different from the planting season?
2) Are the entry periods correct??

Entry period is actually after harvest and differs slightly per zone.

Using the mapping on the first page of the thread should give you some accuracy.

With increased activity in farming, we may have additional entry period due to irrigation. I hope to update that accordingly once I can make out time and there is some consistency

Great job. Love the spreadsheet

Olayimikami:
As earlier indicated in the Egusi thread, i will be providing alternatives to melon purchase here.

Please bear with me as my schedule may be tight sometimes but i will try to handle all questions as quickly as possible

Commodities to be introduced are

1. Sesame
2. Millet/Sorghum
3. Guinea Corn
4. Maize
5. Rice
6. Pepper(Dried)
7. Yam
8. Locust beans
9. Ginger
10. Soya
11. Beans

I have deliberately omitted some and will come back to them later.

Over the next couple of days/week, i will try to discuss the options and possibility of sharing in the wealth available within the agriculture value chain
Have you heard this? Many Nigerian exporters have been defrauded of huge amount of money in the process of exporting commodities to foreign countries. Do you know why? They were not trained on export operations, management, documentations and the best methods of payment in export trade. This is terrible!!! Nigerians cannot continue to lose money to foreigners in the course of export business. Exporters, why don’t you get a practical manual that teaches the stages of export trade from processing and packaging of commodities to receipt of payment by the foreign buyers. It teaches export operations, export management, export documentations and methods of payment in export trade? It is a contemporary step-by-step guide to export trade. It tells all the contemporary dynamics in export trade. To get it, click on the link below:

When the maize is not dry enough it turns black, got to know from my customers, mucor like wen u keep dirty dishes form on it.
Even though u wash it the final output is blackish. It was also strange to me cos on the outside the bag of maize didn't change colour until we opened it.

Aspergillus fungus. This is the fungus that produces aflatoxin, the liver carcinogen.

MAIZE
Maize has done excellently well, if you didn't buy or you haven't; please feel free to join the train now. It still stands out to me as one of the best buys of last year. I have a feeling it may hit 200/kg with the way its going and only just committed to buying more. If you experience challenges with sales, feel free to buzz and i will get you a buyer.

For the adventurous mind, one can still come onboard for marginal gains provided near zero cost of logistics is incurred in storing it
Do you buy maize from farms?
