After a while we hurriedly left Mami market to catch up with the Mr Macho competition going on at the parade ground. We could hear the shouts and screams all the way from Mami, underscoring the level of excitement. We got there and the whole place was full so we just hung out at the back, got some chairs and stood on it, stretching our necks to see what was going on on stage. Cassandra held my body so tight, she was so soft, and I had no idea what the hell was going on. She was just so free with me.

The guys all came on stage one by one, tearing their white shirts to reveal their big chests and flat abs accompanied with rippling muscles. Their bodies were shining like they were dipped in 10 litres of groundnut oil. The ladies were delirious either from konji or excitement. And then Atela my guy came on stage to do his thing!

'Tear your shirt well well na! Show them what you've got! No dey do gentleman for there o!!' I screamed to no one in particular. From his performance I knew he wasn't going to win. When his mates were really flexing their muscles and dangling their eggplants in front of a yearning audience he was there acting cool. I was pissed off but Cassandra was busy laughing at me.

'My platoon guy is going to win. He is sooooo hot,' she boasted. I couldn't disagree. Just then, Nife and the jock appeared in front of us, they were going someplace else apparently. We hailed ourselves and exchanged pleasantries. You know guys na, we don't take thing personally and we greet each other very well whether we are close friends or not. The guy went to the same school as Cass, same set too. I nodded at Nife and she nodded back at me. After the whole banter they left and it was me and Cass once more.


After shouting ourselves hoarse in excitement I felt bored with the whole thing so I suggested we go sit down in a corner, away from all the noise and commotion. We sat opposite each other, a little distance away from the audience though we could still make out what was going on on the stage. I looked around and saw people sitting in pairs, guys and girls, doing only God knows what.

'So no be only me waka come?' I thought to myself. I was scared the whole time, praying that Sarah wouldn't mistakenly bump into us. I prayed she stayed in her hostel.

After joking and teasing each other for a while, I suddenly put on a serious face.

'What's wrong?' Cass asked me.

'I was just thinking. If soldiers catch two corpers kissing will they be decamped or something?'

She laughed. 'Why do you ask?'

'Well, the thing is that I really want to kiss you right now but I don't want to do something that could get us both decamped.'

'I don't think kissing is such a serious offense that can get us decamped sha o. What they usually complain about is if they catch anyone smoking weed or having sex in camp.'

'Hmm... Are you sure?' I asked, leaning forward, my eyes lingering on her luscious lips.

'Maybe. Maybe not,' she said, looking at me through glassy eyes that screamed of desire.

'Maybe we should find out.'

'Maybe we should.'

I leaned forward and slowly kissed her beautiful full lips, nibbling on her lower lip. However, she seemed hesitant. I pulled away and looked at her with a puzzled expression on my face.

'What's that?' She asked.

'That was a nice kiss. But it didn't go the way I imagined it would go in my head.'

'Really?'

'Yes,' I said. 'Or maybe I should try again?'

'That's a good idea.'

We leaned in at the same time.

I kissed her again. Hungrily. Passionately. And this time she kissed me back, giving in completely to her desire. It was exactly how I'd imagined a kiss with her would be. Fireworks. Hot and spicy. She kissed me with such a hunger I never knew she had, pushing her tongue into my mouth and sucking on mine as well. She nibbled my lips gently as she moaned sensually. I pulled back, gasping for breath.

'Was that better?' She asked.

'It was more than better. That was exactly how I imagined it to be.'

'I'm so scared babe,' she said.

'What are you scared of?'

'I'm usually not like this and I've never felt this way about anyone before in a very long time. I'm so scared of getting hurt. Please promise me you'll never hurt me?' She said as she looked up at me, her lips swollen and pink from our intense make out session.

My alarm bells were already sounding off. First off, because I didn't know if I was now suddenly in a relationship. Secondly, I didn't want to be in a relationship with anyone. Relationships terrified me. However, I promised her that all would be well. Suddenly, she said she had to go to the clinic to get cough syrup as she was having sore throat, and that I should escort her. I said okay, and off we went. The path that led to the clinic was dark and deserted, as most corpers were either at Mami market, hostel or parade ground. We got to the clinic and instead of going in, she veered off to the left to the end of the corridor where it was much darker and obscure.

At this point, it was becoming more and more apparent to me that there was really no cough syrup in this equation.

I grabbed her boobs from behind, kissing the base of her neck and biting gently. She moaned and turned around to kiss me, pushing her hands under my shirt and caressing my chest. I pressed my hard phallus against her pelvis, and we began dry humping each other like sex starved baboons. I could feel the heat emanating from her nether region as she moaned into my mouth with her eyes closed. She raised her blouse, adjusted her bra and directed my head to suck on one hard, pink, erect n1pple. I squeezed the other one as I sucked on the first, wondering if this was really happening or if this was all just a figment of my imagination. 'Is anybody there?' The lady said. She couldn't see us clearly but we could see her standing there being an enemy of progress. We stepped out into the light, fully clothed.

'Yes I wanted to buy cough syrup for my sore throat but we thought the clinic had already closed,' Cassandra said, clearing her throat.

'Oh I see,' the female corper said, eyeing us suspiciously. 'Anyway you can come tomorrow. I'm sure by then we would have more. The ones in stock are finished.'

'Okay thank you,' Cassandra said as we walked away. I turned to look and the female corper was still standing in the same spot, watching us. Only God knows what she saw or the kind of ringtones she was hearing. I escorted Cass to the front of the hostel and she hugged me so tight like she never wanted to let go.

'I can't believe what just happened between us,' she said, laughing.

'Neither can I.'

'I mean, when I entered camp I promised myself that I wasn't going to have anything to do with any male corper because all of them are only after one thing. My plan was to come to camp, serve my time and then move on with my life. That is, until I met you,' she kissed me as she said this. In front of the hostel. At this point the Mr Macho show on parade ground was already over and it was almost time for curfew so the place was really packed with people. And I wasn't a very big fan of public displays of affection. I prayed silently that Sarah wouldn't bump into us here, before she quickly throws me into the "All men are dogs" category.

'I'm glad to have met you too,' I replied.

'So..................... what are we now?' She asked me.

I wanted to sing Michael Jackson's "We are the World" to her but I said no.

Before I could come up with a reasonable reply, she said, 'Never mind, we'll talk about it later. Good night babe.'

She gave me a hug and then a peck on the cheek and then she was gone. I stood there looking at her, wondering what the hell I had gotten myself into. My aversion to commitment was at an all time high at the time. As I made my way to my room I noticed I'd received a message from Nife. It read:
