First Class Certificate Vs First Class Sabificate. A Study In Civil Engineering. by KvotheLamora(m): 9:45am On Nov 29, 2017
A first class in civil Engineering is indeed something to be awed over, the course is bulky with students required to become adept in structural analysis and design, highway analysis and design, traffic control, rail design, water and waste management, construction management, quantity Survey, and other related fields. Often times it is over whelming and breakdowns are not unheard of. Therefore it is something special to see a first class student from a government university anywhere in the world. But then, often times, in civil engineering, a first class is not necessary at all, second class upper and lower and sometimes even third class are quite acceptable depending on your sabificate, sometimes firms prefer a third class with a good sabificate than a second class with no or limited sabificate. So what is a Sabificate? A sabificate is the level of which you understand and can perform your work in real life conditions and problems not class room controlled situations, one may argue that those with good certificates may already have an edge in that, but not so, many people simply know how to memorise for good grades, disregarding vocational skills like software design, creative entrepreneurship, management training, while others thrive in these. Often times your place of IT holds a huge part of your destiny in your civil engineering career. Lazy and unconcerned students have gone on to become the best designers of structures and managers of sites and contract procurement gurus because of the exposure and mentoring they received during IT, they go on to practice and go for workshops and improve themselves substantially to make up for lost time, and they are ones firms give jobs because their knowledge of the work and their work ethic is far broader than class room situations. So on the issue of First class in each case, First class certificate always has an edge, but first class sabificate can rub shoulders with everyone Else! Improve yourself regardless of your class of degree, it's not too late. Make it Count! I have attached pictures of some structural designs done by me while I was still in School! Till it reached a point i called home and told them it was no longer necessary for them to send me financial assistance, quite the reverse, I was sending Them because I wanted to! Improvement is a choice, make it today and set yourself apart from the crowd.

Well that was a long time back, I was just starting out then, I used orion to design it because at that time I only knew orion and Robot structural analysis, but I detailed RC columns and bases manually on AutoCAD based on my design results. And I also manually adjusted the orion details on the slab...but like I said, it was a while back, right now looking at it I am somewhat....ashamed...I've gotten loads better and neater under some strict tutors and very picky clientele. If you or anyone else needs structural designs you can call me on +2348138202649.

Ohh! nice. No need to be ashamed, since you know you've really improved.
Though I just start my training on the use of CADS (AutoCAD, Orion, Prota structure at the moment), I wish to be very proficient in a number of CADs software to fit in the current trend in the field of Engineering.

Orion and prota are good design softwares...same really, prota purchased orion...but one has to heavily alter the detailed drawing to make it our standard...theirs are a bit cumbersome and aesthetically unappealing....not to mention small Fonts!

I appreciate your wonderful submission especially the colour scheme which added life to the design. I am an architect by training and I have come to realize that 'sabificate ' than excellent degree puts more food on the table. If you are a true professional, your success in life is directly proportional to your ability to practically deliver on demand.A first class degree is great and should be highly commended but all grades of certificates are but means to an end. They are never ends in true sense of it.I got employed as an architect in Lagos in an architecture firm in 1993 without my boss sighting any of my certificates though I had a MSc degree in Architecture. Diligence pays.

Heyyy, prota 18 is out, and it integrates RC and steel composite structures...its actually pretty Cool! You should definitely go download it, it's available on p30downloads
