Niger Delta oil money at work, what does osun produce, nothing

Osun state's share of that money is so meager that they can not even pay electricity with it and last time I check, most of that money goes to the Niger Delta and lost of them are still poor and owing salaries.

Rubbish..

Weirdos argue for 5 pages but won't ask NBS to give them answer. Just a simple email or call to state offices. I feel like people dont care about data but just want something to argue about.

I would have just read and move on but when i saw Financial Derivatives as the source of this report, i became more interested. Those in the Finacial world don't joke with their reports. By the way the company is owned by Bismarck Rewane and its a highly respected and reputable firm.

Be it far from me to hate but this "report" from Financial Derivatives company is an insult to all the people who taught Economics.
How do you measure wealth? Wealth is measured by these indices: GDP per capita and GDP.
However some other indices like personal income, distribution and people living above poverty line is also great.
Then of course I checked again to see who compiled the list, then it was a small private consultant in VI and ALL in board members and 99% of the staff are from that region. Just Google them. If they had said Ogun state, I would understand but poverty ridden Osun, common!

Bros,

Pls learn to say nothing, than make gaffes that make you come out more idiotic. Bismark Rewane the CEO of Financial Derivatives is one of topmost Economists in Nigeria. He has made his name before you ever made it to school.

@bolded, it is also stupid to tell lies in public domain. Pls provide the link to the staff and board members of Financial Derivatives

That means you don't know Bismak Rilwan . He is highly objective . I was sceptical at first but when I saw it was Bismak Rilwan, I had to endorse it.

Mimiko did wonderfully well across all sector.
Health
Education
Agriculture
Works
Infrastructures.
It's just painful that some of his legacies are gradually dying in this current government.

Maybe he did,
And maybe he didn't.

But can you explain the essense of an expensive events center, when you cant pay salaries.

Or better still how will having waterfalls benefit the state apart from its aesthetic value, it would have been better to build a statue, and and reduce recurrent expenditure.

Maybe agriculture was good, but some other things dont make sense, like ultramodern markets? What's ultramodern about stalls and lockup shops.
Infact govs squandared resources, I remember when mimiko first came in, and was demolishing roads and side walks agagu built, just to plant flowers?
Which sane person will do that?

The point am trying to make is to invest in the future, invest in Education, agriculture, infrastructure (not event centers ).
Not employing more civil servants, not building markets that will be selling goods imported from Lagos.

Third paragraph in the write up said the state is not delinquent in the payment of salary arrears...... Really, is it the same Osun or another??

From the report it means Taraba, Osun and Ogun states have lower misery index and richer than even Lagos State.

This report should be my first surprise on Nairaland in 2018 and I'm sure so many Osun peeps here would believe this with a pinch of salt.

You can't compare Mercedes-Benz with Opel you know.
I can't believe someone in his right thinking sense is comparing Almighty Anambra with Osun in terms of poverty rate, wealth. Laughable. The same Osun that can't pay salary. Even their governor hv poverty written all over his body.

If you are sincere to urself, you will know that one single person from Anambra State can feed the whole Osun state without complaining.

Sustaining Development In A Recession – The Case Of Osun

Critical infrastructure in Osun before the inauguration of the government of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in November 27, 2010, was largely in a comatose. Economic activities had largely slowed down with considerable capital flight and migration of citizens in search of a better life.

Two options were available, (1) Continue in the traditional cosmetic governance: repaint a few state-owned buildings, patch a few roads here and there, pay salaries of civil-servants, using over 70 per cent of the state’s revenue (civil-servants represent less than one per cent of the 4.2 million Osun resident), or (2) Position Osun towards the path of sustainable economic development by making a case for concerted investments and using creative means to raise fund for critical physical and human infrastructure that will in turn spur private investments and economic growth.

A cross-section of road projects completed by the current Osun administration
Without any gainsaying, building roads, bridges, schools and hospitals among other physical infrastructure, creates jobs, enriches the local economy and gives access to market for farmers (many of whom dwell in the rural areas). If you ever wonder why more outsiders were crying than the ‘bereaved’ when the salary conundrum lasted, it was because majority of Osun people understood why the government aggressively pursued development of critical infrastructure across the state as it did.

Osun’s financial model worked perfectly by creating a pool of funds for infrastructure roll out that can only be utilized strictly for such purpose; due to market regulations of such funding by 2014. Using this financial mix, the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregebsola rehabilitated and completed 230 states roads spanning 368km. His administration partnered local governments to deliver 226 council roads across the 30 local governments and the development area with a combined length of 216km.
A cross section of the 300km council roads built across all Local Governments Areas in the state of Osun

Osun in partnership with the World Bank, RAMP 2 programme, also delivered 250 km of rural roads to open up farms in rural areas. The state is on course to deliver the next set of 250 km. It is noteworthy that Osun is one of just six states selected to partake in this programme. In all, the government has so far delivered road infrastructure to the tune of more than 1000 km, opening up our rural enterprises and areas, connecting urban centres and positioning the state as a trade and production hub.
Other construction projects delivered include 20 Elementary Schools and 22 Middle Schools all completed and in use. Many more are still under construction.

Osun has also invested concisely in the empowerment of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME), given the trickle-up impact these make to socio-economic development. The government has so far deployed over N7 billion to 50,000 beneficiaries spread across 4,500 cooperatives and/or businesses targeted at market women, small scale farmers, artisans and physically-challenged individuals. Through its welfare programme for critically poor citizens, the government has supported 16,250 widows and disadvantaged persons.

I expect more of these fake ewedu statistics as election draws close by.

Fake statistics have always been the hallmark of APC pre-elections. Buffoons whose parents are owed salaries and dying of hunger will have their brains opened and propaganda implanted to make them more zombiefied to forget the atrocities of Aregbe and vote APC again.

After voting, another round of wailing continues with increase in hardship and sales of human parts to escape hunger. grin

Ewedurudeens never learn.
