Oil marketers, Wednesday, jettisoned their clamour for an increase in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, and instead appealed to the Federal Government to grant them tax holidays and other incentives that would help cut their costs and also ensure that they resume fuel importation.

This was part of agreements reached at the meeting of the ad-hoc committee set up by the Presidency to engage the Federal Government on ways to get oil marketers to restart importation of the commodity and resolve the country’s fuel supply challenges.

A source in the meeting, who does not want to be named, because he was not authorized by the committee to talk on the agreements, also disclosed that it was agreed by all the members that the price of the commodity should not be increased.

He also stated that oil marketers had agreed to adopt cost-cutting strategies, while four sub-committees were inaugurated to help address the challenges of fuel supply across the country.

He said, “There is no planned increase in the fuel price. The minister said that it should not be contemplated. Even, none of us wanted the fuel price to rise. What we talked about is tax holidays and other things in that line.

“Also, all stakeholders have agreed to look inward and improve efficiency so that we can cut down cost and resume our business. Nobody is concerned about any price increment.

“The Minister also inaugurated some sub-committees, about four in number, some of which are logistics and business conduct committee. Some individuals were appointed into all the committees.”

The source said all the agreements reached at the meeting, which was still ongoing as at 5pm Wednesday, would be relayed to the Presidency, hopefully by tomorrow, before they are made public.

The committee was headed by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, and has as members, heads of some parastatals under the ministry, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria, (DAPPMA, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, and labour officials.

The meeting took place at the office of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, in Abuja.

Desperately searching for means to maximise profit.

Thought they earlier said the landing cost is not sustainable at the approved pump price.

The problem is now tax.

Rubbish, if you can't import, blady drop your import licence for the numerous willing marketers.

I thought some people said the crisis was a plot by Buhari to prevent them from going to visit their relatives in their useless villages..

Smh.

This country would be alot better if we can do away with those elements, Boko Haram and killer herdsmen honestly. There's no difference between the three.

Liondeleo quoting Omekalives when innocent farmers in benue are been slaughtered like chickens in their own land. If only he can invest a little of the energy he spends online hating on IPOB to lead an online protest against the wanton destruction of lives and properties by fulanis and Nig Army and the pythons in his home state, perhaps the dumb president with an acute ear infection would listen. Comic! grin grin grin

See him posting pics of cities with erosion crises whereas his own city of Benue was not only sacked by flood last September but is flooded currently with the blood of innocent men, women and children! Shameful!

These marketers are wasting their time asking for tax holidays and all what. Buhari is hard of hearing , unteachable and not a proactive person.

Not until the citizens begin to roll on their bellies on the street before any of his aides compel him to act!

This is just proof that the marketers are doing everything possible to make sure there is fuel but Buhari remain the dull stumbling block ..This is further proof the dullard is 100 percent responsible for the fuel scarcity

You should pity him. Yesterday Fulani herdsmen killed scores in his home state and the people took to the streets to protest today only for the Army to gun them down! He's actually not stable but putting up appearances.

Na wa. I still don't understand why a nation with abundant oil gets to import it. They say our refineries are not producing at optimal level. Then i ask, what will it take to make these refineries produce at an optimal level? Do we need to purchace state of the art equipment, do we need to retrain workers, do we need to contract it to expatriates who are better equipped in hanfling such dire matters. What ever may be the case, let us do something right for once. We know our problems, we know how to solve these problems but we have vehemently refused to do so due to greed of certain individuals

The marketers are not in it for profit but just as a welfare package for the people, not so?

Either he deregulate or pay subsidy no need for long talk. But yet again his a dullard that cant figure this out.

How can you call a whole village useless, the same reason I dislike Kanu method of agitation he went about calling Yorubas cowards making all form of reckless utterance. Omenka people are dieying in Benue state and your god Buhari is doing nothing about it and you are here making fool of yourself are you not ashamed are you happy about the situation of this country. This is an unreasonable request by the marketers.

They had probably noticed Buhari's refusal to accept the reality of deregulation and capitulated to keeping the price at it's unrealistic low level.

For Pete's sake, the landing price is N171/litre at the port. how tthen can it be sold at N146 at the pump.

I know some will say if it is locally refined, that will solve the problem.

Question is- Will NNPC dash them the crude oil to refine??

Obviously not!!!

Dangote said refining it locally will save about 23 naira per litre.

So, let's minus 23 from 171. That still gives us 148 wholesale price from the refinery. Yet the pump price is 146. We have not factored in transport cost from Lagos state to other parts of the country and profit margins have not been included.

Government should simply deregulate the price. Yes, Nigerians will pay higher but supply will be guaranteed like diesel and now kerosene after government deregulated the price.

I don't see how Dangote will cope with a subsidy regime. I suspect he will lots of money to any presidential candidate that will free the price from its' present senseless stranglehold
