What the hell is a man in his mid-70s doing hiking on Cathedral Peak in the Drakensberg? SAPS chopper went down in strong winds trying to reach and rescue this idi0t. Crew okay though.
DRAKENSBERG - A foreign tourist, in his mid-70s, has fallen to his death in the central Drakensberg.

It's believed the man fell from a hiking path near the Drakensberg Sun resort on Thursday.

He was only reported missing Friday morning when his tour party noticed he was absent and raised the alarm.

You just type nonsense all over the pages, contributing nothing.

Nothing unfortunate about it, sadly. From what I hear the resort's hiking guides refused to take him on account of both the strenuous trail and his age. He struck out on his own on Thursday, and was noticed missing only at breakfast Friday morning.

Another question I missed?

You mean the last real African giants, presidents Mbeki and Obasanjo going to Monrovia to tell Taylor to vamoose?

Was your question here or over on bidexiii's thread?

I do.

You should direct that comment to yourself. You don't have a semblance of a life outside this thread. You constantly spend days upon days here.

No future, no nothing. I feel so sorry for you.

There was no Nigerian SF team then, dummy!

You had better concentrate on your books.

Meanwhile..back in 2003 when our presidents paid Taylor a visit was it a Nigerian SF team that rolled with the recces?

Found it.
No it wasn't. From what I recall, you guys deployed a company of paratroopers which was part of a battalion group you already had in-country. I speak under correction here but I think Paras were the closest thing you had to SF as you didn't have dedicated SF back then.

Our advance team actually stayed at your base in Monrovia. The initial plan was for one Commando (53 Commando) out of 5 Recce to provide close-in protection for Mbeki, but intel from your guys said otherwise. What transpired operationally was your Paras securing all the routes from the airport to Taylor's residence, 53 and 54 Commando providing the escort for both presidents, and SAPS STF backing up the presidential protection services of both countries in the close-in protection role in the inner perimeter.

"By deception we wage war"; "be-tachbūlōt ta`aseh lekhā milchāmāh"; (Hebrew: בתחבולות תעשה לך מלחמה‎).

Until recently this was Mossad's motto. Nothing's changed, it seems.
Now it appears we may get UN approval to sell Umkhonto GBADS to Iran, suddenly stories appear about terror plots involving Palestinians, Iran and South Africa.

I'll end this with another quote:

"Oh what a tangled web we weave when at first we start to deceive."

How many of these does SANDF operate?

Read that as well. And these are the same guys who stole our Mokopa missile plans and said they'd only return them in exchange for us releasing 2 imprisoned SA spies of theirs and flying them to Tel Aviv.

Also, some of their assassination squad on the Hamas man in Dubai had fraudulent SA passports and used OR Tambo International Airport as one of their egress airports after the deed.

Oh! and set up an SA-based front company - Tiger Wheel and Tyre - for their espionage activities throughout the entire SADC region.

And they claim Iran has set up a base here! Everyone has a base here - to be expected seeing we have the most embassies after Washington, D.C.!!!

We only operate it on our naval platforms, and have sold it to the Finland and Algeria Navies. The Army partly funded the ground platform and will take it into service when funds allow. In the meantime, SAAB's been so impressed they signed a deal with Denel to pair it with the SAAB AMB Giraffe radar. So countries in favour with the West will get it as Denel Umkhonto + SAAB Giraffe; and those out of favour will get the completely SA solution of Denel Umkhonto + Reutech radar.

Just like the Paramount AHRLAC: US-approved clients get AHRLAC + Boeing Mission System; non-ITAR get AHRLAC + Paramount Mission System - same one on Airbus military systems.

Detailed because it was an overt mission and some details have been released since the statutory restrictions from 2003 have expired on such mission types. Can't wait for the Gbagbo/Cote d'Ivoire and Libya missions to expire.

Al-Jazeera posted an entire tranche of leaked documents involving the SA spy agency and other agencies, including Mossad, FSB, CIA, MI6, etc.

For very many small militaries, Paras constitute an elite capability. Patchesagain will disagree vehemently, but I think we should change our ORBAT. I think 1Parabat should be a strategic asset - Support Unit to the Recces, if you like. Akin to the US 3/75 Rangers as a SOF unit.
The Army can raise up 2Parabat as an elite unit under their direct command. The Pathfinders - a company of Parabats currently trained up to almost Recce standard - can stay with the Army as 2Parabat's operational link with the Recces.

Where applicable, equip 1Parabat same as the Recces, acquire economies of scale and get everything cheaper as you're no longer buying for less than about 300 men but for a battalion.

And while you're at it, do the same thing with the Marines, as that's where 4 Recce is now attracting most of their recruits.
Just my thoughts, but what do I know, I'm a lowly cog who's thinking of going into civvie street soon.
