Don't speak authoritatively on what you know little of. The National grid is not the problem bedevilling electric supply in Nigeria. The main culprits are the EDCs. That is why you can have places with 20-24hours light supply and less than 6 hours in others. The supply from the grid is constant. How the EDCs distributes that supply is another story.

In Itu axis of Uyo, there is almost 24 hours of light, and not just any light but 220volts light! In my home state of Delta, we have less than 12 hours of light in many places. Yet in both instances, we work with the same national grid although with different EDCs.

There are even cases where the EDCs chooses to supply steady light to some areas that pay bills steadily (judging from the general) than areas that prefer to cut corners or bribe electricity disconnectors (also judging from the general). In such areas, there may be exceptions of people who pay or do not pay but what the EDCs are concerned with is what the general populace does. In Uyo, for instance, people faithfully pay their bills and only a few cut corners (at least from what I have observed). In Delta, the case is very different.
How come of recent the power supply in Asaba Delta had improved?

There was a total blackout in the country due to high frequency transmission this evening, but it seems in some parts of the country, the power has been fully restored
Report from your area...
Power has been restored some minutes to twelve o' clock

Reporting from Diobu, Port Harcourt

Power generation has really improved!

I get what u are saying, the national grid it's about 5000 megawatt, it's definitely not enough to serve Nigeria's 180 million population. I have noticed that in Nigeria we have what we call industrial line which is 33kv and resident line which is 11kv. The industrial line is constant unless there is a fault, what most communities do is to pay the disco to supply them from the industrial line, that's why most areas have constant light while others don't, but some estate I have seen having 24 hours light are usually not connected to the National grid.

True. The grid is not enough to serve everyone but if all the EDCs distribute all the electricity allocations they get in a judicious way, more than 60% of Nigerians will have more than 20 hours of light daily and it can only ever improve.

I heard about that. It's possible that a new injection station was built in Asaba or that the substation there was upgraded. In any case, it's a welcome development. Asaba residents are not known for owing electric bills unlike many other parts of Delta.

Can you please name those areas in delta that owes bill?

There are many places that owe bills. In my community alone (in Ethiope East LGA), the EDC had to cut us off for not paying electric bills cumulatively for over 2 years (they worked with the general populace even though there were a few exceptions of people that paid).

In some areas in places like Abraka, Effurun, Udu, Jeremi, Ozoro, Pessu, Ugbuwangue, etc, bills are largely unpaid. What many people do is to pay the disconnectors and that's it. I know persons in Abraka who owe BEDC over 100k but whenever the disconnectors come to cut, they'll be paid like 2-5k illegally and that's it.

You don't expect the company to give 24 hours of light to those in the above named places when they know that they'll be running at a loss.

My area is the worst hit by the so called NEPA. Through out the x mas and the new year there was no electricity at imude ,Sibiri road in Ojo local government area.of Lagos state. By next week now the official will be coming around to collect the money for the electricity which we never use. There is no impact of government prescent in this area.At the time of sending this report no sign that the light will be coming or restore. NEPA official that visited the area adviced the community to get up to 200k to repair the faulty transformer.

You are absolutely correct. I visited Abraka few days ago and I was told that the ration the light. 9a.m to 12p.m and 9p.m to 12 or 1 a.m but again some places in Abraka do have 24 hrs electricity how come. Recently I heard the university vc cut off completely from BEDC because of outrageous bill.( like N5m per month)

It's better the VC cut off from them until such a time when they'll be guaranteed of 24 hours of light with a workable metering system. Estimated billings are used to extort people. Once they know you run a business, an institution or a company, your estimated bills skyrocket to the tune of 1-5m per month for large ones or 50-200k per month for small businesses. If everyone can be given meters (including big companies), the EDCs will have no choice than to give light because if they don't, they'll operate at a loss.

As for areas in Abraka where there is 24 hours light (a claim which I can't verify), it is possible that an EDC official resides in such area or that the area is meter-laden or possibly that the area pays their estimated bills (generally). There could be a number of reasons for that but trust me, no EDC will give you 24 hours of light if they don't make huge money from the area one way or another.

Absolutely correct. I tour to Edo and visited Uniben.I notice that they have meters in nearly all the business units and staff quarters. If Uniben can do that, Delsu should. Uniben is one of the few places in Benin city that can boast of 24hrs power supply on daily basis. The rest of Benin are on load shedding except for few areas. In my tour in Edo, I landed in Ekpoma. Those guys are complaining bitterly

My dad was able to get the prepaid meter altho he paid heavily. We used 2800 from August to December. 100kw followed the meter. It is damn cheap if every Nigerian gets that. PHCN No longer visit our residence

Ekpoma is in perpetual darkness. BEDC is not even interested in what goes on there.

The truth is that if everyone can come together and demand for effective metering, more than 60% of electricity problems in this country will vanish. With a meter, you pay for what you get and it'll be more profitable for the EDCs to give a steady supply for light so that users can always subscribe.

Unfortunately, many of the EDCs prefer the status quo.

What rubbish are you spilling? It was confirmed that the light went low and then went off.
Now if ther is power outage in PH, will there be outage in kaduna? But that day's situation was general, so it's true.
