CLASSICALS SECTION: Meet New Classical Singers On Nairaland/internet !!! by chineduemmao: 4:29pm On Jan 09, 2018
Am motivated to create this thread because i want to learn more, i want to know more.

Classical musics though the most difficult type of songs to sing is obviously going to extinction (evolution of time i guess). People appreciate these musics when being sang at the moment but they don't really know much about this genre, one incredible thing is that at any point in time, any classical song being rendered still commands a whole lot of respect more than any contemporary genre can ever dream of– its never old to the ear and ever pleasing but where are its singers?

Now, we are in the-same paradise with the last generation of classical singers yet majority of us do not know this fact: The Pavarotti, the Placido Domingo, the Sarah Brightmann, Sissel, Susan Boyle, Laura Puchino, Katherine Jenkins, Alfio, Josh Groban, Jackie Evancho, are the few i can think of. Too many old people but a very few young ones. I think the catholic church is the custodian of this culture by default because in a world full of secular tones dominating every musical scene, you expect a complete elimination of one by the other but in this case the Catholics shows strong repulsion as classical tones still dominates in this circle.
The church holds steadfast to the classics as if it kind of depends on it. Am still perplexed by this fact. The singing style of all traditional catholic songs like "credo" and "litany of the saints" are literally classic in sense [what is their relation am yet to know].

Presently, classical singers are adapting to our contemporary music society this is evident in some classical singers i.e Alfio and Andre Bocelli making their songs have both classical and contemporary imprints to spice it up, creativity some might say, yes! But am i the only person who thinks they fail on arrival? These are still nowhere to be compared to the phenomenal classical works by Handel Edward Loder, Koji Kondo, Joseph Haydn W. C. Handy, Paolo Agostino and Mozart (jsmileyst a few) who lived 200+ years ago.

I hate the current music trend especially in Nigeria it's like a case where anything goes where pure talents are relegated while shamps steal the spotlight, is it that we do not recognise these talents or that they are no longer relevant? Maybe the later but even at that, should we all be deprived of the beauty of raw talent? Sad!

Please i created this thread so that we can discuss classical musics, share the knowledge and ideas, ofcourse develop our passion and probably network...
There is only one thread similar to this on NL but it has been long i don't know if those members are still active in this forum.

IMPORTANT: 1. In other to keep this thread alive- If you have any issue or topic or anything concerning classical music, don't bother to open a new thread for it (ofcourse you would not get much replies) all you have to do is post whatever it is here and mention as many monikers in this thread as possible and you will surely get replies.
My aim is to concentrate all classical/opera singers and fanatics on NL in one thread so that it would be easier getting answers to any question with regard to classical music.

2. If u have a video or audio or record you want us to hear, maybe a solo you performed in someplace, you can simply post the audio on your facebook wall and share the link to your facebook timeline here so we can access it.

Classical music. My all time favorite. I don't think Nigerians have gotten to a place where classical music can survive. Miss Ige is still struggling for recognition, yet she has a very sonorous voice.
If you must make it in this genre, please travel out. We'll appreciate you anyways

So, who are the classical singers? smiley

Anyways, I'm more into instrumental compositions (non-choral symphonies, sonatas etc) than choral/sung pieces.

I watched this Boston Orchestra performance like 6926762362870 times during Christmas. grin

i don't really think classical music will die, it has lived for so many ages which no genre of music has achieved. as for Nigerian, na copy copy dey worry us. we are not also consistent, this inconsistency can be seen in some churches. The catholic church is still trying sha and the Apostolic Faith church also. MFM on the other hand are trying too but inconsistent. I think Anglican is doing fine too

yes there is nothing too obvious really but i think Edelweiss was scored on a too low key, i was really expecting Julie to go higher it sounded morose on that key for a soprano, just like you said it could be how the song was written.

BTW i was surfing and found this video- LADY GAGA doing opera! i couldn't believe it... Seriously this girl carry all her eggs put for wrong basket ooo

Am shocked but I don't find her inspiring. Was still picking some hip hop in her voice. The tattoo is a big distraction. I don't know what the organizers are trying to achieve by doing this

Every music form is boring to those who process it differently. I listen to classical music, jazz, new age and rock (including classic and blues rock, metal and alternative rock) and many in this environment would find all those boring. smiley Same way I can't understand how people enjoy rap music (especially contemporary rap) or listen to D'banj.

How do I enjoy? I enjoy the skilled instrumentation, the orchestration, the sophisticated phrasings and rhythms and harmonies.
Well, if you don't like symphonies, maybe simpler ballets, operas etc like this one might be to your liking: smiley

prevailer, classical music is very vast and each person appreciates differently depending on the persons specialty in the music. There is the vocal/opera, there is choir, there is ochestra, etc. A "singer" would mainly appreciate pavarotti and bocelli over beethoven or anthonio vilvardi, an "instrumentalist" like obi1kenobi would appreciate beethoven and other ochestras over Russel Watson and pavarotti. Some peoples favourite is the classical choir.

We all have different sections of classicals we enjoy or are used to. Just as chineduemmao has rightly said. As for me am not a vocal person so you won't see me listening musch to some classicals but I love trumpet solos, brass ensembles, organ recitals, piano rolls. Then I love old country music. I love bluegrass too.
