Good morning nairalanders: I am planning of purchasing Jamb form for my little Sis today, and I humbly seek for you guys assistance in choosing "course of study" for her. She is 19yrs old, she did sciences in her secondary level.

FACTS TO NOTE
We(our family) are not financially balance to enroll her into studying professional courses like Medicine, Med Lab, Pharmacy and all that. So, I only need an average course that we can afford with ease and at d same time can be of a benefit to her in d feature. I studied Microbiology and I don't want her to study that same course including Bio-Chem and d likes.

For now, I only have "Nursing" in mind but I'm still considering what it will take to sponsor her and d probability of gaining d admission cos we don't have Oga @ d top except God.

cc: Lala, Mynd44, Seun. pls help a brother.

Okay.
Looking at it from the financial aspect, federal universities are your best options. If you were to choose University of Ibadan, the fees aren't too high. School fees range from 19k to 25k. So if she wants to study the 'professional' courses you mentioned, I think she's good to go.

Gratitude. u really mentioned d sch I have in mind(I was thinking of that, UNN, UNIZIK, FUNI and UNIBEN. But I may also like to know d possibility of gaining admission in that University of Ibadan.

@Simultaneousboi's, please answer the questions below:
- What kind of work does your sister want to do when she graduates, and why?
- What are your sister's 2 favorite subjects?
- What are the 2 subjects in which she scored the highest marks as a student?
- Is your sister a good student? What is her position in the class? What school did she attend?
- Does your sister have any hobbies? What are her top 3 hobbies?

University of Ibadan conducts the most transparent undergraduate admission in Nigeria,it is a widely known fact.

As the earlier poster posited, tuition are relatively cheaper too.

If she does well in her JAMB and post UTME, she is good to go. I'm a student of the said university. With good scores, she would definitely be admitted. Those courses are competitive though so she needs to score higher gan the cut off marks to be on a safer side

My apology to you all for not been there to attend to all your questions and suggestions. I really appreciate u guys' concern.

COME TO YOUR QUESTIONS ABOVE @Oga at d top "Seun".
- She has passion for Nursing and wish to b a Nurse in feature.
- According to her, she told me Chemistry, Agric and Geography(but among d three subjects, she only took/wrote Chem in her Waec). She also added that she only finds Physics more difficult among all other science subjects.
- Those same subjects I mentioned above.
- I don't need to praise her so as to protect her interest. She's an average student during her secondary school days(though she took 3rd position in JSS2) but has maintained b/w that 3rd and 5th position through out her secondary level.
- We are village born and brought up children(lol). So, she studied both her Primary and Secondary in d village(gvt school precisely).
- She likes reading but I know that every student do claim that "reading" is part of their hobby. So I don't Know how it will b if I mention that.
-To round it up, she's a fast learner, she can easily adapt to any environment(though she's a shy type, just like me..lol).

She prefers "Nursing", including I and my parents. They(my parents) wanted me(1st son) to study Medicine or Med Lab(which was also my passion) cos I was very brilliant then(but not good in English and Physics tho due to d sch I attended). I took 2nd position through out my Primary and Secondary sch days. But unfortunately, I couldn't make my Waec so earlier which made me use awaiting result to gain admission into Polytechnics(cos I made my Jamb then) to study Science Lab Tech(OND) and Microbiology(HND). So, what I'm trying to say here is that our family has passion for any medically inclined career, and we d children have been infected with that believe too.

since she has passion for nursing, then i would advice her to go for it. There's no better joy when one studies what one desires.

I do not really know much about the tuition for nursing students, but what I do know is that, federal universities are relatively cheaper and affordable for everyone.

if she loves Mathematics, then she can go for Chemical Engineering smiley

The most challenging decision every student at one point or the other has to make is a decision about what to study. This is really challenging as many students have made their friends, teachers or even parents made this decision for them because they practically don't even know what to choose. Some persons are even studying some course today and don't even know what to expect from the course or what they should be able to do after graduation.

Well, this is a well articulated you have to check out. Don't be among them that we live the life of, "I wish I had known, I would have studied this or that course." Make a decision today that you won't regret tomorrow.
