More pics coming, stay tuned

Meanwhile, I had added more panels on the roof;but don't have a picture this time of them.
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by makavele: 2:53pm On Feb 07, 2018
Since i changed inverters, the MSW inverter has been lying idle.

one day, I was bored and decided to add the inverter too . .

so i can now switch between 12V modified sine 800va and 24v pure sin3 2000Watts inverter at my will. . .

the battery can serve as both 24V and 12V at the same time..

don't ask how i did it, I nearly burnt the whole house.

before i finally did it;thanks to some resistors.

Take note i added the former pwm cc too as a 2nd display:

2 eyes are better than 1; lol grin grin grin

Added a double pole breaker; 1 leg- solar panel; 2nd leg- battery

Then some breakers and fuse hidden inside the battery box

along with the switch that operates the dc fan that cools the CC

How many watts did you add to the 600w?
So you have 4(100AH) batteries?

Very good. From ur pic(watt meter), you used 802 w in 18hr:59mins abi?
What are the loads u used overnight/during that period?
The upgrades took how long(so that people will learn that u can grow solar with time. U may not have d big money now, just start somewhere!)?
It's a "crime" not to go solar in Nigeria( how will ur children learn with this current mess we are in)

No sir;

The watt meter displays as follows:

1st section: total time meter has been on in current day... in my case 18 hours 59minutes; u can use the clock menu to switch "days"
Timer resets when it gets to 24 hours and marks as "Day 1" etc.

2nd section: total energy used during time period above .. .in my case 15.67kwH used in 18 hours 59minutes.

3rd section: instantaneous energy load .. . in my case 802 W load turned on currently; this value goes up or down in real-time depending on loads turned on

+++++

The first miniature installation was around early September and it was like that till December when stone added the extra panels;
then I did the remaining magic this 2018 !!!

Nice to see the evollution from simple to moderately large system.

The install was masterfully executed between. Pretty neat job well worthy of a pro installer - your DIY skills are above par. grin

Instead of 'resistors' would you consider using a DC 'buck' converter to step down voltage from 24v to 12v for your MSW Inverter? Easier to keep your battery bank balanced that way because you can engage your entire 24v battery bank all at once. Again why do you even need the 12v MSW Inverter sef? I would suppose your Microtek 24v has pretty low self consumption so except you want to just give it a break sometimes....

All in all very great work bro...

is it OK having your batteries "caged" in the box? I had this notion that batteries are supposed to be in an aerated space.

You can say that again @makavele is more than a diy enthusiasts, i can remember wen he converted his idle controller to an ordinary voltage meter grin ( the controller must nt b idle at all).
Thumbs up man

Thanks bro, I actually don't need the 12V MSW inverter; just added it to the mix cause I was bored that day, lol.
I actually thought it would be easier using resistors as voltage dividers; and the use of a buck converter skipped my mind entirely.
The Microtek measures 21Watts as self consumption; while the 12V one measures about 9W

If you take a look at the picture well, there are large slots ( well, bigger than slots; openings) on the top of the box . . .
The front and two sides are covered . . but still look well, the back has larger openings, hidden away from view.
and it's big enough for you to fit your hands through.
You can cage your gel/agm batteries yes and just allow for tiny ventilation unlike flooded batteries;
but still the box has enough space for ventilation

Check the sketch below:

Please who has a Victron BatteryProtect 65A for sale? Or at the very least a DCDC solid state relay? My family regularly uses up the batteries below 40% by turning on various un-needed fans and lights and i need a relay to cut off the loads at 50% SOC (my inverter cant do that)
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by 4llerbuntu(m): 4:10pm On Feb 09, 2018
One day, solar power generation will be old school gist, like coal

Unlike solar panels that are limited by daylight hours and weather conditions, infrared heat from the sun can be harvested 24 hours a day - a proof of concept suggests this may not just be science fantasy

Is your inverter 24v? Then you can lay hands on the Victron battery protect for about 60USD on Amazon.

There is a fairly recently introduced 48v 100a version but I can't seem to lay hands on that one anywhere except emarinesystems.com - costs around 150USD.

On the cheaper DIY side Oga Pranil has mentioned using AC relays/contactor (not sure of the exact technical term) to disconnect the AC loads vs disconnecting the DC/battery side - he mentioned his preference for AC over DC disconnects to be due to cost and reliability considerations - you may lookup his prior posts on this matter.

Aha, that's a good idea. I can just feed the inverter output into this AC relay. I've seen one locally already. My Victron BMV702 will then act as the trigger.
