Try and see what others with better CGPA are doing that you are not doing!

Revise past questions with such people and compare their answers to how you would have responded to similar questions.

Pally with those leading your class academically or those ahead of you running same course who had been tutored by the same lecturers taking you.

Pally with your lecturers and see the possibility of getting their making scheme. All may not cooperate but some will be sympathetic to your plight and the effort you are making towards getting good grade.

I wish you well.

Understanding ur lecturers matters alot. Ask abt Dem from ur predicesors and dance to their tune. eg
Some lecturers needs la cram la pour while others may need detailed explanation in ur own understanding, some may need sorting, which ever way they want, just follow the norm and don't come out with 3rd class.
God will see u tru

I was about writing when I saw this. This is all the advice you need. Know your lecturers and know what they expect from you.
Before you go to any level, talk to people who passed that level and get all the information you can on your soon to be lecturers and their different courses.

Know what works for you as much as you try to know what works for your lecturers. You may be good at attending lectures and taking notes, and not good at reading for long hours, or you maybe be good at reading for long hours...point is: know what works for you.
When I was in school, I don't miss lectures, why? Because I don't read too much, so I always attend classes, sit at the front and make notes the way it will be easy for me to understand and recall, and it worked for me. I couldn't read for 2hours in a stretch, so, I deviced a means; I read for 1hour, then take a walk or chat for 15minutes, and then read for another 1hour. Doing this, I could easily read for 5hours without feeling the pressure.

Bottom line: know thyself and know thy lecturers.

Read like everything depends on it and pray too, like everything depends on it: the Bible says that the Holy Spirit will bring you into remembrance of ALL THINGS

I was in the same situation too, same level. the tips I used was quite simple, for each lecturer you scored low in his/her course, try a new pattern of writing. I.e if you wrote long notes and you scored low, try pin point answers with examples, and for the ones you scored high, stick to the pattern. bruv if your course is social science, always present you point in situational examples. I had 2.9 as at 200l ending I still came out with a strong 2.1, so it possible.

Start reading from day one of lectures. By the end of the semester, you would have known every thing by heart. I tried it and it worked for me. All the best.

Try and get the book: The Good Study Guide.
The e-book is available via the link below. It will show you how to study and pass. Don't read like it's a novel; read and practice and I am sure your grade will improve if you follow the guide.
Here is the link: http://nouedu.net/sites/default/files/2017-04/GST%20107.pdf

Study yourself and find out what distract you and work on them. All the best.

You can still remedy your CGPA by doing the following:
1. Read a particular course or subject 3-4 times before exams.
2. Study pass questions
3. Give more time to courses with high credit load.
4. Join a study group.
5. Finally pray, as if you have not read.

See you at the top.

computer science and education, that's my first time of hearing that.

however, I had the same problem in my first year (civil engr UNN). First year gp was 3.0, but I had to make changes, to my 1) Reading pattern: I used to read at the library (during the afternoons immediately after lectures, my brain obviously stressed) then sleep throughout the night, but this wasn't paying dividends so I started going to night class (mind you, I lived alone, yet still went to night class to avoid distractions in my room)
2) study mates: no one knows it all, I made friends then solely based on academic prowess of the individual. this in a way is manipulative but that's what you need now.
I think I should point out to you now that I never wanted to study engr, I hated maths and physics and I got admission through the third list.

long story short, this helped. I graduated with a good 2'1 , and have a complete understanding of the course.

but what you need now is self believe, and determination

Past questions are always of great help. Get the past questions for at least five years and solve them all. Read daily! Don't postpone any note till later.

It's seems you only read when the exam is are the corner. Try read always, make reading your habit. Put more effort to those courses with high credit load and those that contains calculations. Try avoid having carry over. The CGPA must improve

i guess you hate mathematics(since your course involves calculation) right from time before you gain admission. You should do a thorough mind modification. This same thing happened to my friends, they struggled to get a C in mathematics courses.start loving your course my dear.

Most times, bad results happens when a student don't like and enjoy the course he/she is reading in the University.
A boy that want to study medsurg and he ends up in soil science, how do you expect him to cope psychologically?
That's it.
@op, 2.5 is relately OK, just work hard and take a good result in 300 and 400level

1. Don't ever miss any class.
2. Always sit on the front row in class and take notes in class.
3. Start preparing for exams NOW (1st day of lectures). Do not wait till exam period to start studying. (Please note: I am not asking that you read 24/7, just start your reading early and be consistent)
4. Make sure you finish the syllabus pali to pali (back to back)
5. Have a reading timetable and allocate EQUAL reading time to your courses. Follow it religiously.
6. Get past exam questions from older students and practice the questions like mad. The more past questions you get, the better.
7. When you have studied, look for someone to teach...it enhances your own understanding.

Wish you all the best.

*Get pass questions of all the course (from recent year and up-to 5years backwards).
*Get a note book for each course and solve all the questions there.
*keep solving this questions and until they become very easy to solve and don't forget to always get some one to mark them for you.
*after doing all the above, start creating questions by yourself to solve.
*when done properly and consistently, the main exam questions will never be your problem.

Advantage of this method
you Will definitely get nothing less than 5A out of 8 course per semester.

Disadvantage
You will not be a varacious reader.
It's very difficult to start but when done, you will be addicted to it.

I. Mingle with the best in your class for group reading and solving assignments.
II. Meet with your predicessors of the same course for enlightment about (individual course lecturers, past question)
III. Study yourself for the best time to read.

You can't go into a war without proper preparation. You can't build a structure without engineering or architectural designs.

My point is "engage in a structural and composed reading"

1. Before reading, skim through the pages you want to cover: This will give you brain a rough idea of what you intend learning, also serve as an "appetizer" before the main meal

2. Chart out a quick scheme: This will help you structure your reading into different segment. This will aid proper assimilation

3. Acquire information/data, I just simplified the reading "process". That is reading/studying is acquiring knowledge as simple as that. Though studying takes more focus and attention.

4. Review your reading.

5. Don't be pressured into long reading. Chop your reading little by little, don't wait until the close to exam before reading all the earth.

6. Maintain spiritual decency, self-control, self-discipline and the likes. Porn, gambling, vices, criminal conducts, sexual immorality, overindulgence, fighting, stealing, depending on " expo" and the likes, will inhibit your productivity, not only your academic performance.

dingbang:
When next you go to class, record the lecturer's teachings ... After the class, make notes with it... Then read over and over..

Op the above is on point.

In addition make sure you never miss any class because it's always difficult to catch up if you do.

Stay off social media. Reduce or completely forget clubbing

Don't wait till the exam timetable is out before you start reading. Read everyday.

Forget guys for now.

Mind the company you keep

Don't just read, look for past questions and try to answer them. Also, know the pattern of questions your lecturers set. Some set questions from their note, some from text books others repeat past questions.

Know your lecturers patterns and adapt to it. I didn't have to read much while in school. This pattern never failed me even till masters level.

during my school days, our peak GP is 4.0 which is 75% while upper credit is 3.0 which is 60%.
back to my story, I started with 2.85 which is lower credit.. I feel depressed and weak but I keep trying my best. thanks to my friend who encourage me even though that my friend is on 2.58 GP.
after dat, I keep trying harder and harder, but to cut the story short, I finished with 3.09 which is upper credit.. means I finally achieve my aim.

So, one thing you need to do is to associate yourself with people that have vision.
secondly, don't relax, try to understand urself more. making myself as an example, I don't used to remember things so I always took my time to read. I can read a full handout 7 to 8 times before I can remember 70% of what I read.. so, try to know ur capacity and work towards expanding dat ur capacity.
also I like courses with calculations so I work extra to make sure I make 75% in those courses.. for example, if I'm offering eleven courses for a semester, after like a month after resumption, I'll tick up to 4 to 5 course that I'll work extra to make sure I make A(75%), and even if others are 60% and 50%, those that are 75% will push them up to at the end of the semester I'll still achieve over 3.0
