STRIKING NON-ACADEMIC STAFF WARN UNILAG TO POSTPONE CONVOCATION
source: http://www.eyesoflagos.com/2018/02/striking-non-academic-staff-warn-unilag.html

There are strong indications that the University of Lagos may postpone its 50th convocation ceremonies scheduled to commence on February 19, as the effects of the ongoing strike embarked upon by non-academic staff at the university bite harder.
It was gathered by Eyes Of Lagos that the workers, under the aegis of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, the Non- Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Associated Institutions and the National Association of Academic Technologists, have shut some administrative buildings on the university campus.
The striking workers have also extended their protest to the UNILAG Staff School, causing panic among pupils and parents.
Speaking to newsmen, the chairman of NASU-UNILAG, Kehinde Ajibade, said the university authorities have been warned to postpone the convocation.
He noted that the striking workers might not supply social amenities needed during the convocation.
He said, “The stand of the union is that the university management should suspend the (convocation) operations.
“There is no way to do that (the convocation) when the three unions are on strike.
“The environment is not going to be conducive, no water and electricity, among others. The management of the UNILAG is expected to do the needful and they should postpone the convocation ceremony.”
When contacted on the telephone on Monday, the university’s Principal Assistant Registrar, Information Unit, Mrs. Taiwo Oloyede, expressed uncertainty over the organisation of the convocation as scheduled.
She said, “I cannot say anything categorical on that. We are having a management meeting today and I hope that we will resolve all issues relating to the convocation.”

Is there still a government in Nigeria that this strike action has lingered for three months with government not making conscious effort to end the industrial action?

This is what a nation gets when a Professor is made a junior minister of education while a Mallam is his boss (senior minister of education) and a Dullard.inho is the overall boss.

Is Buhari even aware that some University unions are on industrial action? That's if he knows the union acronyms and their full meaning or importance in a university.

The government has been successful in turning members who were hitherto working "harmoniously" against one another. The case of ASUU and JAC is akin to the case of Doctors and Nurses. Knowing well that the government did not have enough for everyone, they bargained with the perceived "Most Powerful" member(ASUU) and paid them the largest chunk, because other unions are "mere support staffs" whose rights can be trampled on without much fuss. They then subtly ordered the VCs to ensure proper functioning of the system since their grievances have been addressed. VCs went overboard and the resulting chaos is what we are experiencing.
How can a sytem run smoothly then?
Sadly, the only loser in this game are the students who have been made grasses upon which gladiators wrestle!

Probably delay in collecting results I suppose. Students will understand better when they need their results

ASUU did worse. I'm not happy about the strike either but ASUU should also know that non academic staffs are also as important as teaching staffs.

To those blaming those workers on strike, I wish you or your sponsor was one of them.

Although, I pity the students too whose study are affected by the negligence of our irresponsible government.

Can't get my transcript since last year because of this.

this has nothing to Do with the Fg.. Its the school itself that's cheating the Nasu staffs.... They have collected their own allowance and have refused to fully pay the none Academics their share......... Just because this people are mostly cleaners and the rest doesn't mean they should be treated as trash.... The Unilag ASUU are selfish and bunch of thieves... Before the strike started, I over heard some lecturers talking about the amount each was paid from the money Fg gave to the school, I heard one man said he was credited with N500k and that them never even pay am finish... Can you imagine someone collecting N500k and still complaining of balance when those that are doing the hardest and the dirty work never get shishi......... This isn't about Fg na school problem be this.. And the academic staffs are trying to ride on the none academics by taking the money for themselves...
