I've been greatly inspired by this thread.

I'm a microbiology graduate from one of the Federal Universities, finished with a CGPA of 4.45, and would love to have cross via D.E into med and surg.

I intend writing G.C.E this year, cos my O'level isn't that strong, pls hope I won't be required to submit my original O'level certificate, next year when I apply for D.E into medicine?

Just have your papers complete before you apply for DE, though I still don't understand how you studied microbiology with an incomplete result, since same O level subjects are needed to study medicine. How did you do it?

People usually think that medical students are the most intelligent people. That is partly true. Usually, the most intelligent pool of students from various secondary schools apply to study medicine every year. But when they enter medical school, they must learn to drop the genius myth. We have seen the brightest chap who humbled WAEC and JAMB with high scores drop out from 2nd MBBS exam. Stuffs happen. Get ready for them. In the words of Donald Trump, " There will be no guarantees, but being prepared sure beats being taken unawares."

Nice post. What caught my eyes is the I-know-more-than-you discussions in the uni back then.I hhardly spoke at those meetings, preferred listening to them gurus talk.

Recently, the final MBBS results of my school was released. All of us approached the college's clinical building with fear to look at the notice board. You are never sure you've passed till you see the board.
Medicine is not for the chicken hearted. You need mental strength. It is a course you could spend years writing one exam after the other. Some give up on their own and change course.
I wish to share with you what I learnt from the medical school. Here we go.

1) SUCCESS IS GOALS.
On the night our final results were released, the Teaching Hospital environment changed. The city saw massive activities. No one can do medicine with 2 0-LEVEL RESULT even if i do physiology or anatomy then try medicine again?

I don't really know about 2 O level results. Direct entry too, most people say it's possible, but I've not seen one who did it.

I am admitted through DE. Ijmb to b precise. Honestly I just really would like to know if it's compulsory to stick to lectures note or cover textbooks?

Read your lecture notes to smash your quizzes and exams, but your textbooks to be a good doctor and for better understanding of your lecture notes.

For your embryology, I will advise to steer clear of those saddler and the likes, they are geared towards making embryology seem like rocket science, try out the embryology by Indebir Singh, u can thank me later. The textbook will let u realise that embryology is the simplest aspect of Anatomy, and you will actually understand what you are reading. That said, you have the other textbooks for the remaining courses spot on, avoid sembuligam, use more ganong, guyton to supplement you, make Keith more ur go to textbook for Anatomy, but if u really want to know your onions, you must read the rest, Chaurasia and Gray. I know what it takes to study medicine...I know how hard it is to study medicine...I know that one is not allowed to move on if one doesn't pass one's national medical examination in one's fourth year in medical school...I know the stress of practising medicine even after graduation...I know that 70% of the doctors(including my uncle) I meet will not advice me to study medicine....I know that being a doctor is virtually the toughest and most challenging profession except the military.. But I know I can study medicine and surgery...Not because of the money involved or the respect they get, but just because I love it...I love anything medical...I chose medicine because it is the best medical profession...I pray I will fulfill my dreams...PRAY FOR ME...Anyway, I applied to study medicine this year at AAU, Ekpoma...Post utme results are not yet out but I'm believing on God for the best..Still need coaching and prayers from my ogas and madams at the top..Thanks..

not everybody is privileged to get scholarships, but i didnt like the fact that those who already had one kept jostling for more with those who were indigent and didnt have, using the money to buy luxury goods...it wasn't fair and just plain greed

I would agree with you halfway, especially for people who wasted the scholarship monies on parties, phones and tech. However, their are very few who actually channelers the money to academic pursuits. I have a friend who used the money to run his PLAB, he saved it up from year 3. He was on three scholarships.
