1.With a 1 year pgd accounting can i further my studies to masters in canada immediAtely after college without coming to Nigeria to apply again,i have 2;2 real dream is actually MSc.


2.How easy is to get a PR with a 1 year programme,what steps should i work towards plsssssssssss?

Landing experience...

Landed on the 12th, came in via local arrivals because I was in America for a couple of weeks before landing. Before I knew it, i saw way out of Calgary airport without seeing Customs or Immigration. Turned back to go to Canada Border Services and the lady was surprised i passed through. I had to explain that I am coming from America and did not enter through International Arrivals. She took my passport/ COPR and came back in 2 mins with it stamped.

Was a bit irritated with the process sha because I did not hear anything like Welcome to Canada etc but then again it was good because I did not have to queue up or wait my turn or answer any questions.

13th & 14th- Got my SIN, Opened bank account, Health card processed....They were all quite straightforward

Weather is manageable if you dress right.

I think you people read posts here with preconcieved idea. i am going to repost my initial post here for emphasis. i just felt within me after i spoke with one of us who was not having it good with her job hunt but got relieved when i shared mine with her and another that chatted me that my story encouraged her that people dont get balanced report here and so when it is not happening for them, they feel left out. I network a lot. i attend ACCA, ORACLE and presently mentorship programmes and have been sharing my experiences here.

In one of the ACCA networking programme i attended, the members shared their experiences and from what i got, i am still on track. i met a Nigerian lady at the oracle event i attended last month and we talked about my job hunt and she was like that she is impressed that i came for the programme.

The embolded too got me. i have also shared here how someone here helped me get my first job in December so what is it about feeling that survival job is not good for me. I also shared how i met someone at Meadowvale town centre who confirmed what God said concerning me.

I am tired of this distorted response and my mail being bombarded with solutions to my preconcieved job hunt problems.

Until you people make this place conducive for sharing balanced report. People will read what we have here and think that jobs in Canada are just for asking. I am already being made to look like a victim when i know i am a victor.

czaratwork, i used the pronoun "you" to address all intending immigrants or landed immigrants. There is no distortion here and I was only sharing my experience to contribute towards any available information out there. If you follow my contributions you'll realize that I am not one of the "jobs will drop miraculously" members of this thread and I have always maintained an objective stance as regards professional advancement for immigrants in Canada. So I'll prefer if you refrain from referring to me as "you people"

2017- Moved to Ontario (Job opportunities) and the hustle began!
A friend who graduated at the same time as I got a good job and had me wondering if I was not good enough. I literally slept and woke up on my laptop. I lost an opportunity because my work permit was not ready.

After almost three months of editing, structuring, matching and sending out resumes to companies. I recently got an entry-level job in a bank. I believe it is a great way to start my banking career, take the financial exams etc.

Everyone will have different timelines, just stay focused and optimistic.

Shun any negativity thrown your way. For example, a friend of mine was always flaunting his salary in every conversation which sometimes made me feel bad cos I was on $0 (lol).

I have not gotten there yet but I am pushing through. Someone might land today and become the manager of Company Z and while another might struggle for three years.

As long as you work -regardless of the type of job you do- to put food on your table, be thankful.

Currently on the lookout for evening and weekend jobs to do, as exams are expensive and rent is not a joke .

We will all look back and smile. #MayOurHustlePayOff

Please our frequent fliers, I saw that BA is cheaper and faster than Ethiopian airlines on Wakanow but the connection flight to CA is at Gatwick rather than Heathrow where we will land from Naija. Layover is also 6hrs+.

Would it be wise to take this option because Gatwick 45mins+ outside London, would BA transfer our lugggae and handle the flight transfer or we would have to debark at Heathrow and find our way to Gatwick and is the 6hr layover okay for all this waka upandan.

as long as the entire journey is all on one ticket you won't have to pick up your bags. You'll just have to get to Gatwick fro. Heathrow. There are national express buses right outside heathrow that can get you to Gatwick for about £20-30 and it's a 1hr ride i believe. However you'll need a uk transit visa or a valid uk visiting visa

Although I am not a doc, but the few I have met writing board exams work in some of the professions listed below:

Care aids, pharm assistants, medical office clerks, nursing assistants, security officers, med lab assistant, Health policy researcher etc.

I have also met quite alot that are registered to practice in Canada. They mostly work in small communities/cities across Canada as family physicians. Some work in large hospitals as gyn/obs and psychiatrist.

You might want to find out about accounting technician jobs once you okay with leaving your baby with a childminder or daycare.

This is exactly what i asked for before i was shut down by people that have the formula to success and their clique. i am now on reading mode. i no get time for e war.

I noticed i have never come accross people sharing their struggles here (except one oluwapelumi84 that her case was not properly handled)and so when my friend (i got to know her from here) called me and narrated her experience, i shared my experience with her too. At some point i was in a worse situation than her (I am not even open to sharing it here again) and this encouraged her. Someone else chatted me that her my story encouraged her ( i didnt get to ask her which of my stories). Beside feeling good with myself for being a source of encouragement, these two instances really got me thinking. i was like probably people here are not open to sharing their hustles meanwhile these hustling stories no matter how minute they are can encourage someone else.

That is why i requested that we be open to sharing our stories here to encourage ourselves. Iron sharpeneth Iron.

I am not also oblivious of the fact that some people got their job even before landing. Infact my sister's colleague got a job with one of the consulting firms while still in Naija. When i asked him how he did it (i hadn't relocated then), he said his selling point was his SAP experience. IT people get job either before relocating or immediately after landing (This is not to make anyone in this category who has not gotten a job yet feel bad, As long as you have done your bit, In His time it will happen just keep on hustling for it).

I think i have done more explaining than it is required for this issue.

You can decide to agree with anyone. It does not take away the fact that we need to encourage ourselves with our stories. That said, i have not also said here that i want to fall off (as in hang in there) or that i am loosing it so please don't make me a victim. I am a victor it is just that my time hasn't come.

I remember that particular poster. She wasn't really sharing any problem. The poster kept quoting bible verses up and down of what will happen to her if people dont help... All I could get from the posts was someone low on funds and wasn't open to taking up any job to get by for reasons best known to her. Some of us wished her goodluck.

I had a crazy idea of looking for a volunteer or job shadow opportunity for a week, but i think i am being overambitious.

We are also considering going across the border to Niagara falls/Bufallo NY during the weekend while we are there but my worry is how to return into Canada without a PR card.

Landed seniors , please help with your advise/suggestions.

I heard people have achieved this when crossing in a PRIVATE vehicle, with your COPR. Personally, i do not think its worth the risk, but HECK "insert Ontario's Slogan"
