A hospital in Lagos has been accused of negligence after officials allegedly refused to render help to an injured man who was involved in an accident. According to reports, the hospital located in Ajah area of Lagos literally closed their gate as the unconscious brought was brought by people to the hospital.

Veteran actor Segun Arinze who berated the hospital for this, shared the below post on Facebook.

I just witnessed one of the most unimaginable acts by any hospital. I was in a barbing salon having a shave opposite Doreen Hospital Thomas Estate Ajah and we heard crowd noise downstairs we stood to see what was wrong? A Man had an accident and was brought in unconscious.

Doreen Hospital refused to open their door to help rescue the Man in spite of all entreaties. Some of the nurses refused to help they were just watching the Man on the ground. So what happened to coronary law? Treat the Victim or patient first!! And ask questions or ask for payment later? What are hospitals turn to in Nigeria? Has life become valueless in our country?

It is a pathetic situation, some people get treated and 3 months down the line no body will turn up to settle the bills, i know of cases where a hospital had to come to a church to plead for them to raise money to clear the bill of one of her members.

That said health institute should try as much as possible to save lives despite the challenges and melee we find ourselves...

Because a private hospital running services free of charge will end up closing due to bankruptcy.

It's painful when things like this happen,the question I ask is what if it was my relative that needed urgent medical attention and an hospital refused to help because the individual he has no money,how will I feel?
However I won't judge the hospital because of some cogent reasons:
1.The patient doesn't look unconscious,for all we care the individual there could just be drunk.
2.We are only seeing pictures,we don't know what the staff of the hospital saw and they refused to attend to him.For all we care,they could have taken a brief history from him and suspected LASSA fever,as such,decided to step back because in Nigeria of today if you die serving your country,na your family go suffer am.
3.Alot of patients come to the hospital,after getting well,they refuse to pay the bills,abeg how many celebrities do go to hospitals to clear bills for those unable to pay,I am not talking of giving them tissue papers and get well soon card during Christmas and new year o?
If the hospital had been less prudent with their finaces,they would have gone bankrupt and their won't be an hospital there in the first place.
Way forward:The government should provide efficient health insurance scheme,not the present one that can only cater for cheap drugs and minor surgeries,then the hospitals will be assured that their bills will always be paid.

The first question is that do they run emergency services, or its just a clinic for cough and catarrh patients?

If the hospital was not equiped to treat accident victims...then they have every right to refer.

Because doctors have lost their licenses attempting to treat patients without adequate facility, specialization and backup.

Whats makes you think is about money? Private hospitals are so substandard that the only thing they can boast of is structures with Air-conditioned environment. Outrightly they are empty. They shy away from cases they outrightly know they cant handle.

Have you heard when a private hospital told someone at the point of death of his loved one to quickly go to General Hospital? General hospital is under-funded but its far better than all this big private hospitals you see with exorbitant bills. They only treat malaria and body-aches there. Thats the only thing they are good at.
