No employee work for 40 years in Nigerian government working sector. Few private sector comply to tax deduction of their employees. Do you expect a private employer paying meager to also deduct tax from the meager amount?

many private coy pay tax even if it is meagre. Many employees work more than 40 yrs in Nigeria government, let forget the wayo angle, some after retiring are employed as consultant or contract staff.

but for an individual to be singled out as tax compliant it is direct assessment and not pay as you earn('PAYE') that is deducted and paid by the employer whether private or govt.the reward for that goes to the employer.but direct assessment, you personally walk into the tax office and declare your income and pay the taxes.

Nice one Baba.

See haters just hating for no reason whatsoever.
I pray you guys don't give up before your time with so much hatred for someone who doesn't know you exist!

It is a job they are paid to do
People get more than N100k to write down the achievements of this government - they get sad whenever there is any good news

In 2012, Jonathan dragged Tinubu before the code of conduct tribunal and did not even allow his supporters from Osun State to get to Abuja to give him support
That was under a first time president

Which politician in his right senses will support such a potential depot for a second term

Jonathan completely eclipsed the North West in his appointments and his supporters were saying they did not vote for him
Fact is that in 2011 Katsina gave him 25% along with some other states - he got 25% in 32 states but he allowed haters to poison his mind
There was no state where he did not get double digit in 2011

Not true. Retirement age is 70 for professorial cadre in public universities same for justices of the Supreme Court. Non teaching staff of universities retirement age is 65 courtesy SSANU/FGN 2009 agreement.

you are making it easy for the slowpoke ihatesycophant:. I told him my father worked "for the government" for 40+ years, I told him my father and his colleagues are not "normal civil servants" and that there are categories of govt workers exempt from normal civil service rules. Instead he was arguing with me telling me he knows about my father more than me. I even called my father to confirm while we were having this argument.

You shouldnt have educated him, people like him should be left to their ignorance shouting google up and down. The fool forgets that the civil service rules he is googling only applies to those whose employment falls under that rule.

Google will give you what you ask for, it wont make up for his lack of the reasoning. If he had any reasoning/ critical thinking he would have spotted it when I said certain categories of govt workers are exempt from the "normal" civil service rules and tried to use his friend google to find out what category of govt workers are exempt. Instead, with his half info he was arguing with the whole world.

This argument was never about "civil service" but govt workers.

Stop playing around with words. University dons, judges and others I mentioned are civil servants. They work for government institutions

[quote author=ihatesycophant post=65487347]
Why mingling preferential treatment given to university dons with what is applicable and written boldly in Public Service Rule. I am quite aware of the advantage given to the university professors on their age limit but here where talking of civil service as claimed by many commentators here that they pay tax for over 40 years. I know many of them may not even know such rule exist and thinking workers can work perpetually, not minding there are rules that guide their stay in service.

Mr keep quiet.

Are all Nigerian employee working in the Public Service?

Even after retirement some of them is get employment at other places to sustain themselves.

Most retired Military personal are currently working for private Security firms all over the country.

Next time don't just jump-in and defend the your government without properly reasoning.
Sorry for yourself. Why jumping into equal you know next to nothing about. How many private firm pay direct tax of its personnel into government pulse? You guys would just want to comment for comment sake without single iota of reasoning. How much do private guard pay their workers that their workers would be taxed directly. Virtually all private owed sector do indirect taxing and does not come into equation at hand. I am cog sure some of you commenting here have not started working or employed in government parastatal. It's only the entity of private guard company that do direct tax and not its employees. Please be guided and learn because a primary school pupil may one day ask you.

You are the one not reasoning well here.

Since you can't properly construct your paragraph, let me put it down clearly for you.

1. Most private(including private security) firms remit PAYE to the State Governments and Corporate to the Federal government.

2. Private sector remit workers taxes according to the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA). (S.81 of Personal Income Tax Act Cap P8 LFN 2011)

Are you saying Banks and Telco are indirectly taxing their workers? how?

3 Every federal government employees pay taxes to their state of resident.

By residency rule, an employee’s PAYE is payable to the tax authority of the state of his/her residence. It is therefore the duty of the employer to deduct and remit it to the tax authority where the employee is resident. If the employee is resident in Suleja, the tax authority that is entitled to his PAYE is the Niger State Board of Internal Revenue. If he is however resident in Mararaba, the tax authority will be the Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue.

I am 100% sure you have not worked in the Treasury department before, because if you have you won't be arguing blindly.

Why jumping up and down in your comment. You did mentioned private security in your earlier comment and I used it as yardstick to what is obtainable within the ranks of private workforce. For your info, I work as a public servant at federal level. These are part of questions asked in some of our promotion exams. Few private organisation do direct tax of their workers. The example of bank you mentioned are directly under government before and even owed by it. They ate still operating under the strict law that established it. Can you conveniently say with these 100 private companies, 10 do direct taxing. My first employment was with textile industry, follow by teaching job to my current employment at the federal level. Just to tell you I have past through all sectors of employment.

Private security firms guiding coys like MTN, GTB, EcoBank, Chevron, Access Bank and British International School. Remit PAYE for all staffs to state government.

Which bank is under the government, apart from BOI, BOA and Federal Mortgage?

You think i don't know about the Civil Service.

Most of you guys get federal government job based of quota system and sentiment .

How many of you can compete with private sector employees .

Mr. Man, I got this my present job by doing all the necessary exams and passing through all procedure. I don't belong to quota system staff. I am not even remotely related to any politician or government functionary. I applied for many jobs, sat for many aptitude tests, gone through many screenings and penciled to be eligible to work as a federal staff. I also did my Comfirmation Exams and passed. I have gone through the ladder and not jump any.
Again, I am tired of this your back and front argument.
Please who initially owe UNION, FIRST, UBA, NORTH BANK FOR AFRICA, TRADE BANKS?
All your listed private guards don't do direct tax of their personnel it is only the companies that pay tax as entity.

Oga, say what you know.

It is fraudulent for any company to withhold taxes of their employees.

Lagos State collecte Paye(Personal Income Tax) from most private security companies operating in lagos, i have seen some their payroll system and tax records.
Only corporate tax goes to the federal government.

UnionBank was Barclays Bank of Nigeria Limited before government acquired 51%

Government never had any stake in most of the New Generations banks.

Enough .

Bye

Wrong! sad Hadiza Bala Usman is NOT the daughter of Lema Jibril. Hadiza Bala Usman was born in Zaria in 1976, and raised on the campus of the supposedly left-winged Ahmadu Bello University with her three sisters and three brothers, Hadiza is the daughter of the late Dr. Yusuf Bala Usman, who was a passionate and respected lecturer of history at the university.
