The last stupid thing I will ever do is rush to that Lagos to buy land or even live there..
Pls let's live their Lagos for them and try other climes if you re wise.
They will reap the results of the seed of tribalism they sow everywhere..
By the time they meet a Lagos looking as calm like Abuja, their body language will change

Sounds like a joke but what you said May play out

I don't think the court can stop the law as the process of coming up with the bill is right.

The only solution is to resist and even go ahead to vote out APC in the next election for the party to realise that Power belongs to the people.

All landlord associations should be mobilised against Lagos State government to reverse the law.

The protest should be sustained until government accent to the people's demands.

i have said that ambode wants to turn lagos into abuja of the 90s, the new land tax will deny the average lagosian the ability to own land and force others particularly non indigenes out of the state.

ambode and his cronies will be exempted from the tax, another case of the filthy rich feeding off the poor“

The land use charge is a valid law in Lagos. Whoever owns a landed property in Lagos is under obligation to pay. Any non Yoruba that is not willing to pay should move his/her property out of Lagos. Nobody is forcing non Yoruba's to remain in Lagos compulsory. [/quot

as if you can pay it, lagos wasnt developed by the yorubas, obviuosly dont know ur history, this law is targeted at non indigenes, even ambode cant pay this tax.

Go to court on what legal basis?

Exactly my point.
As lawyers, if they have no legal leg to stand on on this matter, why embark on street protests?

I would have thought that lawyers should do things in accordance with the law, always.

It's a good thing that the charges affect people of all tribes who own property in Lagos. The cries of Yorubas who are the majority in Lagos will be heard louder than all others who are equally as important and relevant.
The biting economic realities and the inhumane face of this bill affects everyone, even Dangote has spoken against this and demanded a downward review.

If u still think it's all about non-yorubas who cannot afford ds crazy charges relocating, you will be shocked that if continued, the greatest exodus will be embarked upon by same Yorubas and even actual Lagos indigenes cos like I said earlier, they are the first majority. It is not everything u get clannish n tribal over. Sometimes u need to be honest n real.

O se!

The law didn't even go far enough. It should have been less for Yoruba and more for others. Healthcare taxes needs to come too for those who don't have health insurance but put strain on general hospitals. We are getting there anyway.

To those who have problem with this law, there are 35 other states you can move to in Nigeria. Lagos is overpopulated and expensive to run. There is no free lunch, if you must leave in the first city and state, you will have to pay for it. Everyone wants to live in Lagos because it has something you can't find in other regions.

In as much as I appreciate the good work going on in Lagos state, I will plead with Lagos state government to hearken to the cry of the masses as far as this issue is concern.
400% increment of LUC is quite high considering the fact that, there is no effective price regulation agency, Lagos landlord might also increase tenancy rent by over 400% to justify LUC reviewed amount.

400% is unrealistic, most people in support of this bill do not live in Lagos, probably lives in Ogun, Oyo and work in Lagos, but do not know that this will affect them directly or indirectly cos landlords will increase rent, drivers will increase fares to pay up rent, food prices will be increased because of increased transport and that is when u will beginning to feel it, school fees for ur wards will also go up cos of the charges on the property.
Pls think before supporting things like this.

This governor is not realistic. You can't enforce Yoruba language on every Lagosian, "it's a Yoruba city", and you turn around to enforce oncreased taxation on non-Yoruba citu dwellers. That's retarrrrdwd.
This idiot is still pained by the Yoruba language bill in schools, is it only non-Yorubas that are affected by the increased LUC? Just shut up and stop bringing tribalism into what doesn't warrant one. The new LUC affects every landlord in Lagos whether Yorubas or non-Yorubas and must be resisted so it can be reversed.

Before you start comparing apples and pineapples, ask yourself salient questions. Is the standard of living in Nigeria, the same with the developed countries? Is the minimum wage in Nigeria anywhere close to what is obtainable in the developed countries? Is the economy as at today, buoyant enough for people to be able to afford these exorbitant taxes? You don't just wake up one day from your bed like a drunkard and slam exorbitant taxes on people, and expect them to pay.

You have a point here. As an expert in urban development it necessary for Lagos manager not to throw caution to wind because they want mega city. No city can sustain itself without support from hinterland.
There is a theory we call Walter Crysterler theory of city hinterland interelationships. Unfortunately we have leaders who believe in Island of prosperity amidst ocean of poverty. This concept in us prevent us from having the big picture National development in view when making policies. This is premise for even our religious disposition of prosperity gospel.

Since when did civil street protest become a bad thing. You should be protesting that hike as well, every resident of Lagos should join in that protest, unless you don't understand the implications of that 400% tax hike.

Street protests by lawyers?

People that should the fighting our cause legally in the law courts while others put more pressure on government by going to the streets?

Everyone should have a role in society, even when it comes to disagreement with the authorities. If there is no LEGAL basis, why then would LAWYERS embark on extrajudicial measures?

Bros law can't be reversed by going to court because it has become Lagos law from Lagos house if rep the best option is to protest before any other thing.

Do you have a property in Lagos? Or you're just trying to be stupid for fun? Is it everything you see on Nairaland that you use in playing politics/tribal sentiments? Have you thought of the implications of this stupid step taken by the Lagos state govt? From the circular I got that was sent on social media, everyone who owns a duplex, would pay as much as 3m per year for tenement rate. How does it sound to you that someone would have a property and still pay so much like he or she is paying rent in a highbrow part of Lagos? At the end of the day when the tax burden is passed down to the people renting those properties and they cannot pay, they get evicted and become homeless. Can you just imagine the circle of commotion it would cause? The most annoying part is that most of you who support all these stupid policies of APC govt in Lagos and Nigeria, are usually the worst hit. I know somebody who almost fought me because he was supporting buhari in 2015. Today, hunger has dried him up and makes him look like an aids patient. When he wears his shirts, they look like parachute on him. If you see topics and you don't have any reasonable comments to post, just keep quiet and read comments, rather than making a fool of yourself.

Ambode will never match Fashola's pace as their governance skills are world apart. Ambode is a learner! He's lost focus as he is busy chasing shadows. What so far as he done with revenues amassed since inception of his administration. All he's been known to do best is rescinding existing and functioning systems such as the LAWMA saga that has turned every part of Lagos into waste dump site.

Ambode simply has nothing to offer Lagos. He's so far rode on Fashola's achievement. I look on to see what posterity holds for his administration at the completion of his tenure.

I think it's high time we try another party in lagos. I had prematurely praised this administration of performance. fashola performed and he didn't overburden the people.
That's why we don't need public servants with godfathers. from 400% increase in land use charge to increase in cost of survey and toll fee without any value added service.
The truth is that once the increment has been accepted then another government might come in and also increase the 400%

Yes they have a right to march through the streets, at least let them embarrass the government and also create a greater awareness and build opinion of a greater number of residents against the hell tax.Thereafter they can consider going to court and other options if the greedy insensitive government (in this very matter) refuses to listen
