It is no news that the British could never stand the "I know my rights uppity attitude" of the Yoruba employees in the colonial era. From Doctors to Engineers to Lawyers, Yorubas had them all, and they were not prepared to play servant to the British who most times were not better educated or experienced than the Yorubas, but the British felt no Briton must ever work under an African. And rightly, the Yoruba's wasted no time in forming a political party as early as 1908 to demand for the rights of the Yoruba people, at a time some tribes were still learning how to recite ABC.

So Ajose was a riff-raff academic, yet became the first tenured African at the university that had a globally multicultural academia? Do you know what it takes for a Blackman to break such a glass ceiling? What is more pioneering than being the first in a race that is purely academic and research focused? What is more experienced than being the most senior on the academic board?

You see why I rightly said that to the Igbos, merit means I Go Before Others?

I can only imagine if Ajose was the younger and less experienced academic who was chosen over an Igbo professor who was more experienced, qualified and pioneering?

Marginalization is the word the Igbos would have cried from that time till now.

Keep exposing your hypocrisy, while I continue to haunt you with your ignoble past.

Did the British who were also leaving the army not nominate a Yoruba Brigadier ahead of his peers who were a total of 4 Brigadiers, with the Igbo Aguiyi Ironsi being the most senior?

Was it not Aguiyi Ironsi who was eventually promoted to become the Major General, and head of the Nigerian Army?

Keep rewriting trash. Why did the British consider ironsi ahead of ogundipe? Ironsi was more proactive simple despite his (ironsi) seniority even! So its more than just age dude. Ogundipe was a 'paper' soldier, not a rugged and well travelled soldier.

Stop hyping ajose, he was nowhere near Dike. Your propaganda won't fly this time. Nobody knew ajose, everyone knew Dike. His exposure, age and antecedents were unquestionable.

I repeat, the only merit the Igbos know is Igbos first.

If only you could remove Ajose's place from history just to legitimate your nepotism and tribalism with the Dike appointment?

Unfortunately, you can't.

You are what you are right before independence and till now.

The Sardauna knows you best and rightly described you for what you are.

Of course whatever your Fulani masters say is correct and acceptable by you.

Dike's detailed research on Africa's history was groundbreaking because before then it was the foreigners that was writing our history for us. Dike put an end to it by narrating it with scientifically back research. Dikes research covered a lot of ethnicities and language clusters....even ajose's own language and your language, YORUBA included.

Just out of curiosity sir, what happened to this Yoruba brigadier after Aguiyi Ironsi was killed?

Is this true?

History revisionist undecided

Imagine how you seek to change the course of history to reflect your hate filled biased and vindictive mindset.

You can't still change the fact that Igbos were Nigeria Trailblazers in all spheres before the civil war.

I won't argue with a tribal bigot like you. undecided
Ofcourse you can't argue with him cos you are a lazy thinker. What do you have to back your claim if you argue with him. Like I said, God is not foolish. The truth is glaring, you can't cover it.

Calling her a lazy thinker is more than apt.

She calling historical facts as revisionism, only suggest that the truth of their ignoble past hurts to be brought to light after being concealed for so long.

There is more from the past that will be dissected whenever these clansmen attempt to gloat, so that they can hurry back into their caves when the truth strips them nak.ed.

As it is, she and her ilk will always remember what was read here, no matter how hard she wants to wish away the truth.

Your self-serving and face-saving revisionism cannot fly this time.

NCNC my foot.

Professor Dike, Nigeria's first professor of history, in a clearly stated mission to narrate and preserve African history from the African perspective became the first VC of Univ. Of Ibadan based only on MERIT.

It was your awolowo that introduced tribalism and nepotism into academia.

Even unilags first black VC was pioneer professor Eni Njoku, another great academic of botany.

These men were the pioneers of their time. There was no egbe omo oduduwa in academics then. Everything was purely merit based that even your awolowo was scared of competing with igbos. no long revisionism can change the narrative.

If you read Awolowo autobio book's where he always lamented about Ibos you will understand his jealousy and obnoxious state of mind.

The book was published in the 1950s before independence and even war.

Awo is to the Igbos the father of tribalism for contesting to be premier in his own Western region when he had an Igbo challenger from another party, and daring to become premier of his own region.

For daring to compete in his own region, Awolowo is a tribalist. For ensuring nepotism, Igbos are competitors.

I don't need to fear domination as my people are not famous for wailing like babies with claims of marginalization. We simply dictate our own rules in our own region, and surely we sit back to watch with amusement the protestations of only one tribe out of all the migrant tribes in our own midst - the Igbos. You are that predictable and self entitled.

I have pointed out the nepotism that Igbos termed merit in the first republic, when less qualified Igbo's were appointed by fellow Igbos into offices that were above their station, while more qualified Yoruba seniors were overlooked. And as one Igbo got in, he made sure to bring the whole clan in. The same strategy you tried to do in the Western region politics and failed woefully. While the North already knew who they were dealing with and kept you from their regional jobs and offices, while you already dominated the federal space being the educated tribe in the North-East alliance of the first republic federal government.

Despite dominating your multi-ethnic Eastern region and ensuring you dominated the federal government jobs, using the NCNC partnership with NPC, your people till this day continually wail that Amadu Bello did not allow them to have their way in the Northern region.

Till this very post, even you are still in turmoil and agony that Awolowo democratically became the first premier of his own Western region, having formed a government with his own Action Group and independent parliamentarians who together formed a majority government. What manner of greed and baseless envy is the Igbo imbued with?

Your greed is legendary and is exemplified by the recruitment conducted by Igbos in University College Ibadan.

It was also the NPC/NCNC government that appointed Prof. Eni Njoku as Principal of University of Lagos, so no surprises at all. The Igbos must have it all.

Still you wanted the very soul of the Nigerian Federal Government, hence the Igbo coup of January 1966, and the subsequent unitary decree of Aguiyi Ironsi.

Your ways are known to all, and we have put you were you belong.

If only your Igbo sons and daughters could erase the history of the Yorubas they always have to catch-up to.

You don’t seem to get it.

Azikwe was the Governor-General then Presideht when Nigeria became a ‘Repubic’. He had powers to make appointments into Federal institutions.

Now, in academia, appointments are made by experience and years of being whatever position one may be - for example, as much as there are Professors, there will be those who have been Professors for a longer time and they are regarded as ‘seniors’ to those who have been Professors for a shorter time. And in the academia, appointments are given to most senior Professors.

Ajose was more accomplished and a senior Professor to Dike.

Azikwe who had Federal powers to appoint a VC had two options:

Ajose the more senior professor

Dike the younger professor.

You do the maths.

So you do not know that it is political parties that run a government and appoint people into positions?

Even till today, who appoints the VCs of federal universities?

That I have to educate you about how political parties in government work, is a shame you could have avoided.

Yet you are from a country where the citizens complain about PDP and APC, so why are we complaining about those parties if they are so irrelevant to their own regimes?

Dude, you cannot erase the past history of Igbo nepotism and tribalism within the federal government of the first republic.

You cannot dispute the qualification of Ajose as the most qualified, most pioneering and most senior for the position of Vice-Principal and eventually Principal of University College Ibadan. Ajose's only shortcoming was not being Igbo, in a country that had an Igbo Azikiwe as Governor General and later ceremonial President, and an Igbo NCNC party man as School Council Chairman as appointed by Azikiwe himself.

But the most qualified Igbo and most senior Igbo just had to be appointed to suit the Igbo version of meritocracy.

Even Dike could not understand why he had to be called back from an unfinished Sabbatical in the USA to come become Vice Principal under the soon departing British Principal.

He was apprehensive to accept the position he damn well knew he was the most senior and most qualified Igbo, but not the most senior or most qualified Nigerian.

Just as the Igbos would have cried fowl if Brigadier Maimalari was appointed as first Nigerian Major General, ahead of Aguiyi Ironsi the most senior, or Ademulegun and Ogundipe who were the next ranking of all the 4 Brigadiers that were in contention for the promoting to Major General.

It is for such slight that a more senior Ojukwu, rejected the authority of a subordinate Gowon.

Yet our Igbo debater believes merit is only said to have been adhered to when an Igbo is appointed out of the blues ahead of his superiors. He is even trying to cast aspersions as to the academic credentials of the first African Professor in a globally multiracial environment in a then British run university. Oladele Ajose broke the glass ceiling for others to follow.

Merit = Igbo

Unfortunately, it was Igbos that self destruct and truncated the Igbo domination by nepotism agenda, out of excessive greed to have it all.

I don't believe ajose was a senior professor because there is NO Proof of such claim. I even thought you were refering to age. So far, history tells us that dike was the most prominent among his contemporaries. Even the academic world couldn't dispute it.

You linking zik to appointments is dubious and to even start with, does not prove that parties appoints academics. The head of government (balewa) appoints while the ceremonial president only accents. So blaming igbos for your kinsmen not being better qualified enough to run the premier university is ridiculous.

UI was not owned by the Yoruba western region. It was established by colonialists. Unilag belonged to the federal government because it wasn't established by the western region. It was only OAU that was established by the western region at ife. That explains why it was a Yoruba that was appointed as the first VC.

Dike was a foremost historian who gave the african community back the academic rationale to narrate and research its own history. Google is your friend.

Merit = Igbo

Unfortunately, it was Igbos that self destruct and truncated the Igbo domination by nepotism agenda, out of excessive greed to have it all.

Who is (sorry, was) ajose? What gave ajose the edge over dike? Was it age? That was definitely not enough to say one is superior to the other.

Dike trailblazed the African historical narrative. His research set a standard for other African historians. Something ajose didn't accomplish in his medical whatever.

Dike's efforts still sustains UI, the national archive and the African history in general. Ajose was not above him in any way academically or socially. Dike even carved his niche at Harvard university owing to his groundbreaking research in African history.
