Gone are those days when Integrity and a sense of community was alive. The women knew they had the power to effect change and they used that power wisely.

What do we have today? The complete opposite. The average Naija babe would rather "Slay", watch big brother or focus on getting married.

On how to make the nation better? How does that one concern her?

Remember, evil thrives when good men/women do nothing.

P.s: Dear Nigeria, you deserve your current situation. How can you improve when everyone is singularly concerned about themselves. It's so ingrained in our subconscious that we have a name for it - "I better pass my neighbor"

Though the riot was tagged Aba women riot, majority of the women who led that protest were from Ibibio, Annang and Efik. Magaret Ekpo of Calabar was one of those who led in the protest.

Magaret Ekpo joined at the Aba township, then as young woman living with her British educated husband. The 'women's war' first started at the Bende district and headed by Ikonnia, Mwannedia and Nwugo. They led women of their communities to revolt against the harsh taxes imposed on them by the warrant chiefs. After much success, they sent palm fronds to women of other clans and ethnicities in the old Owerri and Calabar divisions. Notable among the Ibibio, Efik, other nearby Igbo clans, Kalabari, Opobo and Ogoni. These ones too joined the movement and forced mass resignation among the warrant chiefs in the old eastern region.
The tag 'Aba women's riot' was given to it because it was at Aba that the mother of all riots took place and it was there the British regiment opened fire at women numbering thousands. Scores were killed, many were injured and many arrested. The panel of inquiry also sat at Aba were the women were found guilty by the British. The Zik led NCNC condemned the killing and the use of armed soldiers to quell an unharmed civil unrest. This was one of the events that signaled the push for mass nationalism and independence.

You are right bro, we are on the same page. Those where the days when we were united as a people irrespective of tribe and creed. I saw many of my brothers of dancing naked on the first thread. The applause belongs to no one tribe but all ethnic groups of the old eastern region. Maybe many are just doing it to instigate envy among their rivals from the west.

You are correct. But your brothers were dancing on the first page because, if it had been a bad thing now the other people will never want to share in the blame.
A good example is the First Coup de Etat.
So, my submission is this. Let the Igbo people gloat over this one.

Our women have been known to have achieved several feats both in the past and present time..

Another people I respect much are the "Dahomey amazons "..., they were so brave and courageous.

History has it that these dahomey amazons terrorized yorubalands for many years., they were fearless warriors that put Yoruba men and their monarchs to flight.

Wait for your enemy to praise you. Americans, Chinese and Germans sing there praise, they don't expect others to do that .

When Yorubas were leading in education in Nigeria, they were singing it, the didn't wait for your recognition then.

You get talk abeg. The antagonists may not want to praise Igbo but right in bedroom they just can't help but acknowlege that Igbos are a great race even though they would have it be otherwise. grin

My mom chased after the ball, kick-stopped it like a pro and seized the damn thing. What she screamed thereafer till date is a topic of discussion anytime the family is captured together.

Akwa ibom riot not aba riot we need to petition UN

Shut up your dirty lying mouth. The main leader of the protest was from Oloko in today's Ikwuano LGA in Abia State, which is next to Umuahia. Her name is Ikonnaya and three other kinswomen

Lies. She was not at the center. She joined later and took a leadership position. Besides Margaret is also an Igbo lady married in Calabar/Akwa Ibom.

Margaret Ekpo was born in Creek Town, Cross River State, to the family of Okoroafor Obiasulor and Inyang Eyo Aniemewue. She reached standard six of the school leaving certificate in 1934. However, tragedy struck at home with the death of her father in 1934, her goals of further education in teachers training was as a result put on hold. She then started working as a pupil teacher in elementary schools. She married a doctor, John Udo Ekpo, in 1938. He was from the Ibibio ethnic group who are predominant in Akwa Ibom State, while she was of Igbo and Efik heritage. She later moved with her husband to Aba.

Very good post except dont do a dear “Nigeria”, because those Aba heroes were not fighting for the useless Nigeria scam, but against it.

Anyway, isn’t it ashamed Okorohausa cannot build statue of these women and Oyibo is recognizing them?
