Seriously guys, what does it take to own and maintain a car in the UK?

To own a car, not a big deal.... You could get a decent banger for as little as £500.......

You must be insured, have a full UK driving licence, Vehicle must be road funded and MOT must be valid....

The smaller the engine displacement, the cheaper the cost of maintenance (usually)

No point buying a Honda legend and expect the running cost to be lower or equal to the cost of maintaining a Honda Jazz.........

Thanks for the feedback. On a average, how much could be shelled out on a monthly basis to run a mid range car?

Would you be using vehicle on a combination of trips? Driving to and from work, social etc etc etc

To add to what mr Lexusgs430 said... you can easily pick up a car....but as a jjc or newly qualified UK driver your insurance could be well over £3000 ....the bigger the engine the higher the premium....also depending on your location

Mostly everything with it. This is a laid-back town without much activities or bus traffic thus, you'll have to wait for sometime for it to come around. Mostly, instead of waiting in the freezing cold, I just trek it. It's not too a place but surely needs a ride to get around as much.
I don't even want to get started on the taxis... Bunch of ripoffs.

Besides, I'll need to go back to school asap to get my certs up for juicy positions, so yeah, I'll be needing a small golf or Peugeot 406 to be getting by.

Buying it won't be a problem but na how much e go dey chop me monthly based on insurance, tax etc I wan know about.

Phew!! I hope you get my point?

My sister, I never even enter their buses since I arrived o. No be when you see am and you wan go far place you go enter? My place to basic malls and town center no far. I trek my thing jare!! grin

But, it's getting harder to do now. Sometimes, na only me go dey road dey trek. People go dey drive dey pass, plus also being the only black dude in the town, I dey always standout like that.

My driving test go come when I don put the necessary stuffs in place. I want if I pass test today, then na from there I dey go pick up my ride o. Simple like that.

If you do not have any insurance history in the UK, expect a huge insurance bill.

And your insurance bill be as high as £3000.......... The smaller the engine and how unpopular to area boys and the post code you reside, would determine your total insurance bill.

Do you presently have a UK driving licence? If you do, how long for?

No driving license just yet.

No driving license just yet.

With no insurance history, expect a higher than usual insurance premium.

Best to start working towards obtaining a driving licence......

Without a DL, all this points would be rendered useless....

Hi Guys, please help me clarify. This Security deposit house agents ask for in the process of renting a house, will they take our 1st Month rent from there? Or the money will be forever tied down? Coz it's a lot of money if it's going to be separate from rent.

Waiting for sabi elders. Thank you.

its separate from your rent. You get it back in whole, if you did not damage your apartment when you move out

I think it's a one time deposit which you get back at the end of your tenancy and you choose to leave the apartment. To get all your money back, you have to restore the apartment to what it was when you moved in. So make sure to take inventory and snap pictures for future reference.

Also, the deposit is usually the amount of the rent pcm, make sure your "landlord" secures this deposit in a Tenancy Deposit Scheme.

He/she should give you written information about your deposit within 28 days of payment. If he didn't deposit it for protection with TDS and didn't give you the written information after 28 days, you fit contact Environmental Health Office and he risks being fined up to £20k.

That's the little I know about this.

I believe it has been answered, d deposit should usually be 6weeks rent and will be registered by d agent or LL in a DPS. Some property has high deposit which is one of the things to look for and makes u decide to choose or let go of a ppty. Welldone dear. It will soon end.

And there is no way in this life that you're getting the full deposit back. Unless you have been flying around the house like an angel during your tenancy period.
