Igbos Blamed For Prevalence Of Drug Abuse In The North. by Masterclass32: 9:09am On Apr 03, 2018
A lecturer at the Faculty of
Communication, Bayero University
Kano, Bala Mohammed, has
pointed accusing finger on the
Igbo drugs merchants for
allegedly supplying codeine syrups into northern Nigeria.

The lecturer made the accusation
while presenting a paper at the
Kano Youth Summit on Peace
Advocacy and Development,
organised by Hamisu Magaji
Foundation, at Mambayya House, on Monday.

In the paper titled: “Nexus
between youth, drugs, crime and
insecurity”, Mr Mohammed
blamed the Igbos, with connivance
of local people, for the prevalence
of drug abuse in the northern region, especially Kano state.

Mr Mohammed wondered why
drug abuse was not prevalent in
the Southeastern region, but the
Igbo people resorted to supplying
cough syrup that contains codeine
for the consumption of the Northern youth.

“Our investigation revealed that
drug abuse is beyond normal
marijuana, cocaine, alcohol, etc. It
has moved to the extent that the
medicines we take in order to cure our diseases are now being converted into hard drugs.

“We then discovered that it is the handiwork of the Igbo people,
who connive with our local people
here, to supply the codeine into
our region, especially into Kano
state.

“There are many instances where Igbo guys were arrested over supplying codeine into Kano and some parts of the North. The cases have been reported on national dailies.

“So, why shouldn’t they take it
to their region? Why don’t their
youth engage in drug abuse? This
is really sad, and we have to rise
up to fight this menace,” he
lamented.

Mr Mohammed also blamed court
judges for compromise to secure
the release of the suspects without trial, noting that, that was the reason the problem was
deteriorating.

He, therefore, called on the
general public to fight the menace
themselves within their respective
communities, advising the public
not to disown the youth engaged
in drug abuse.

Speaking earlier, the chairman of
the foundation, Hamisu Magaji,
said the essence of the summit was to enlighten the youth ahead of the 2019 elections.

Who said the drug is exclusive to the north.

While the trader is only restocking his shelf...controlled consumption amongst the people is what you should be shouting for

I see 2015 repeating itself. Nigeria is too polarized. Buhari will win with a landslide victory and igbos will revert to agitation

I have never seen a reasonable Muhammad in my life even the greatest of all Muhammeds was a pervert and a terrorist.

There is no way Igbos we be drinking alcohol and be abusing drugs, in Anambra state there are 3 brewery plants that supply the people with vintage liquor but you don't see junkie in Anambra state.

We drink alcohol responsibly because we were raised responsibly

Why is Mr Bala Mohammed thinking through his cap? Are the ibos and others forcing the northern youths to buy and do drugs? Come to think of it, the hausas themselves have their own sources of supply because I was told that there is competition among the suppliers. They all make money out of it. This is a general problem all over Nigeria. In all, the Nigerian youths should be enlightened to stop doing drugs.

you are definately not from anambra. in fact, you are not igbo.

we dont say things that compromise us.

@topic. that speaker is so misinformed.

igbos don't supply hard drugs to kano. Lebanese are the ones doing the business and are making huge profit from it.

northerners should stop blaming igbos for their woes!

the dumb speaker is looking for an excuse to send his almajiris to attack igbo shops.

This should be investigated and if the igbos in the north are found guilty then they should be punished according to the law...if this accusation is false, then the professor should be charged and dealt with so that he will serve as a scapegoat to others who feel they can come out and say whatever they want...tribalism will lead Nigeria nowhere, cos this man can't tell me that it is igbos that are corrupting the already corrupted northern youths, then he should go to Alaba arago in lagos so that he will see how his people abuse drugs and behave like animals even fighting in the middle of the road and causing traffic.

If they had their d!ckhead imams decrying the evils of narcotics consumption with the same sadistic fervor they employ in castigating, demonizing and mobilizing against other peaceful religions, cultures and ethnic groups, maybe their misbegotten spawn would have a better chance of it.

Even the demographics of littering everywhere with vagrant urchins aids them in producing more drug-prone vagabonds which was useful to their leaders in years past.

But, as usual, the same pple who stole the most of Nigeria's oil money are often the same idiotss playing the victim card. Bunch of retard.s!

He obviously lacks brain.
Drug abuse has been prevalent among northern youths. They have been sniffing gum, using Brown powder, sniffing animal dung etc just to get high.
