Simply said, it's not allowed because you have to take a Driving test and be issued with a valid State Driver's license.

Thanks for the hint, but i read on the Texas traffic website that valid internal ID is allowed for temporary visitor. However residents must go thtpugh the test. Have you had any experiences you can share.

Are you doubting what you read on the official website? You can use your license just make sure you arrange insurance with the car hire company or before driving

Yes, yes you can.

"Driving privilege reciprocity allows a person to use a valid, unexpired foreign license to operate a motor vehicle in Texas for up to one year or until a person becomes a Texas resident, whichever date is sooner. Once a person becomes a new Texas resident, they must apply for a Texas license within 90 days to continue to drive legally. For more information, please review the Moving to Texas page."
