You think so? You thing LG chairmen can cope with salaries of d LG workers and primary school teachers...not to forget their huge pensions...and considering d impending minimum wage increment?

I am afraid o...it will most likely wreck primary education in Nig to its foundation.

The Local governments will need to figure it out plain and simple. LGs will have to raise their IGR just like every other tier of government. They get allocation from federal government and are constutionally entitled to 10% of the state government IGR. Lastly the state government will like engage in cooperative federalism with Local government so they dont allow chaos to ensue.

Power comes with responsibility. They shouldn't just sit around doing nothing with tax money. Alot of the work state government do local governments could handle adequately like garbage disposal.

I pray earnestly that things are sorted out effectively and swiftly to avoid conflict of interest, and so that things don't get messier for retirees and LG workers and teachers.

It is time to contest for my own constituency in the state house. Even if it is because of re-election, I will be glad if all the necessary/important bills are signed into law for peace to reign, to checkmate the excess powers of governors, for judiciary to be financially independent to carry out their duties without being manipulated then I give buhari a thumbs up for this.
I have always liked Senator Ita Enang right from his days in the house of representatives.

That will only happen if citizens do their own constitutional part by holding their LGA representatives responsible, and granting or withholding their support based on performance rather than the usual Nigerian criteria of tribalism, religious sentiment and opting for whoever is handing out "free" rice on election day. Government ought to be "by the people" and "of the people" for it to be "for the people", a notion most Nigerians seem not to understand, given how passive they are in the face of misgovernment.

The arguments against LGA autonomy are simply without substance. If people aren't able to hold LGA representatives properly to account, how then are the same people supposed to do the same with governors, senators and the President, all of whom are much more remote, and are elected by far larger constituencies?

They are have well organised platforms that'll make it difficult for the Chairman to embezzle funds. I don't about anywhere else, but local government chairmen and councillors are people we can flog in the market square here.

We can sign many autonomous bills into laws....none of these will ever solve our problems... Until an average Nigerian politician becomes honest.... U removed power of chopping from governor and give to state house...all are corrupt.... Our problem is from our attitude towards public office. We see it as make I chop my own venture....until this attitude is changed, we entrench honesty and decency and also have a impartial strong institution to punish offenders....all our actions are like pouring water on stone.

Many of you(Buhari's blind supporters) are too lazy to know processes involved in the act of law making. The whole alterations/amendments to the constitution is at instance of the National Assembly that have been so degraded by your principal (Mr dullard) and his devilish collaborators. Go & do a search on google of how the alterations, especially on the financial independence of State Houses of Assembly & Judiciary came into being. This affliction shall happen to us no more as God lives!

Welcomed development..

My only fear about this LG autonomy is that, primary school teachers will be at these chairmen's mercy for salaries and other benefits...and with d little things i learnt from history; d last time they had this autonomy, Primary School teachers suffered a lot.

Most of our LG Chairmen in Nigeria are half/full illiterates with money mismanagement flowing through their veins.
Let the LG Autonomy come first.
