What about just moving forward when you put in drive on a flat surface.

I undeestand what he is trying to say, the vehicle jerks forward after engaging which is not too good eapecially in a filling station when when cars are parked next to each other. I once experienced that in my former honda, not funny at all

Is cardoctor and other gurus still on this thread?

Biko i have a serious issue with my 2004 toyota camry. The stalling is out of this world especially when climbing the slightest hill. I dare not even try to overtake except in a slope. My mechanic blame the problem on MAF, he said it is weak. Anytime he cleans it with choke cleaner it will work for just few hours and then return to normal stalling again. Though after cleaning the MAF it only improves the performance but not totally. Aside MAF, what else should i be looking at?

I complained about the gear not shifting properly, he said it is because the vehicle is stalling thats why my gear doesnt change properly, he said the gear is fine, probably to defend the work he did on the gear few months ago, inside of me tells me its a gear problem.

cardoctor:
Automatic gearbox issues have become a reoccuring decimal to any automatic car owner. Slow take off, sluggish acceleration, lack of kick down, loss of drive while in motion, lack of gear change, aggressive gear changes, high engine revs without power in drive just to name a few.

From my observation and the complaints made by some of our customers, these problems usually start from a gearbox oil change that was recommended by the mechanic who then uses the wrong type of ATF oil for the transmission.

Most car manufacturers develop their own ATF formular for their cars.

Honda recommends their own formular ATF-z1 for their gearboxes manufactured between 1998 to 2009 and upgraded to the ATF-Dw1 for gearboxes manufactured from 2010 upwards.

Toyota uses the Type 4 ATF for their cars manufactured between1996 to 2007 and the Toyota WS ATF for ones manufactured between 2007 to present.

Most other car manufactures have also upgraded the type of ATF for their modern cars.

Using the wrong grade of ATF would almost certainly result in a failing transmission. Low grade ATF may not be able to handle the high temperature operations operations of a gearbox. Under very high temperatures, low grade oil loses its fluidity and may begin to boil causing loss of hydraulic functions by frothing or foaming.

Some remedies I have seen used by local mechanics is to further add engine oil to the gearbox in order to thicken the viscosity of the ATF. This in turn puts the pump under great stress as the thicker oil would require more effort from the pump in distributing the oil under high pressure as well as the oil filter which is usually embedded within the transmission gear train. (The removal and changing of all Honda transmission oil filter would require the removal of the gear box from the car and stripping down the gearbox)

The resulting consequence would be an imminent and extreme overheating of the transmission and components such as the friction plates and a rapid degradation of the wet clutch fibres hence the loss of drive, slipping clutch and rough gear changes.

Replacing the gearbox or a total overhaul by an expert would be the likely solution but before then, an inexperienced mechanic would Send you on a wild goose chase by suggesting the removal and servicing or outright replacement of shift solenoids on the outer casing of the gearbox. These solutions Don't last as its just a temporal remedy to a terminal issue.

We constantly repair these gearboxes and those of other makes to a very high standard with 99.9% success rate and we recommend that if you are having serious issues with your automatic gearbox, ensure that the appropriate procedures are followed.

What is the best gear oil for a Nissan Xterra SUV model manufactured between 2001 - 2004?

Thank God I came across this thread. I just got this 2008 Honda City, I intend using it for Uber and Taxify. But my surprise is that when I get to 80km/h mark the car revs higher than usual.

It's automatic transmission and I didn't expect it to be revving as if you're about to change gear in a manual transmission. I understand the gear box was changed some months ago but what could have made the engine to be revving like that?
Re: Automatic Gearbox Problems by fabulous18(m): 10:24pm On Jan 10, 2018
That's mean the gear disengage probably the solenoid valve body is damaged or some gear solenoid sensor

I use a 05 Toyota Camry. My gearbox got burnt and I changed it but the problem is after changing the gearbox once it gets hot the gear would disengage and sound like it's on neutral but once I allow it to cool down a bit it would work. What should I do. The gearbox that got burnt was a 13 pin gearbox n I change it to same 13 pin. I ve bin advise to use a 10 pin

I have a problem with my Honda accord EOD,2004,a gear box problem. when i start the car and engage the gear to reverse it will delay while the firing of the engine will be high for some time before it can move, same way when i put it on Drive, move for like 3 to 5 minutes it will stop completely for some time and start moving slowly again. I brought in a gear specialist who confirm that the gear box is bad and need an outright replacement,he notice the pump is functioning well,my mechanic suggested a change of switches,i am confuse.
Car Doctor, please can you put me through with more explanation and a possible remedies?

Having changed the atf recently after discovered that it was low with the 1999 CR-V not moving as it used to. 4 quarts of mobil atf was used when Dw-1 atf couldn't be found. The car drives and select gears well but sometimes when put at the reverse gear it makes one 'conk' noise.

Please, is it the gear that has problem or sordid? The atf pan also seems overfilled.

Please i need help with my 2008 camry 13pin transmission. I had oil leakage and i was told my transmission oil pump was the issue. The oil stopped leaking after the change but the gear is not shifting properly. Please is it possible to change the seals on my previous oil pump and refix it.

The did is done already I think. Going back to your old pump is not likely to fix it.

How is it shifting now?

It does not shift more than the 3rd gear and down shift is even worse. It delays for about 5 to 10 secs for it to engage the 1st gear when the car comes to a stop when driving.

The replacement pump is most likely not delivering adequate pressure. Have this confirmed ASAP so you don't toast your clutches.

Pls gurus in the house. I have an EOD 05. It slips to false neutral when driving slowly on a rough road or traffic. But when I turn off and turn on the engine, the gear picks up again and work normally.
This usually happen like 2to 3 times daily.
I scan the car and I have the following codes
P0780 &

Hi, I have a 2004 MB W211 4MATIC. The box shift rough from 2-3 and vise versa, I also get an aggressive kind shift too when trying to negotiate a corner or any kind of incline, say I slow down and want to pick up again.

What do you think could be wrong with her.

Aggressive 2-3 should have aggressive 4-3 normally, which is usually caused by a K2 clutch failure.

A twist however is the hard shifts at inclines and bends. If you are losing gears at those circumstances, I would say check fluid level.

I am not sure if your car is equipped with a G-sensor, as it's failure will show when the vehicle is not driven level. Have you scanned?

True that, I get a rough shift from 4-3 as well.

Hard shift: this I get when I throttle, the box gives a sudden Jerk.
