Ekiti State Police & PDP Eyewitnesses Fault Fayose Attack Claim “Nobody Beat His Excellency.. His Security Details Were With Him”

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose sparked a huge controversy yesterday when he claimed that the police attacked him.

The governor claimed that the police shot at him and fired teargas that blinded him in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

But the Police said the governor was not attacked.

They said policemen fired teargas to disperse a crowd of people after they had been advised not to hold a rally.

Reporters who were at the Police Headquarters rushed down to the Fajuyi Pavilion, venue of the planned rally when the news broke that the crowd was being dispersed.

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) source claimed that Fayose was attending to complaints from members who had been denied access to the pavilion when a teargas canister fired from outside the Government House landed very close to him. The governor inhaled the teargas and went down, he said.

Asked if other people with the governor did not inhale the teargas, the source did not reply. He said Fayose was taken to the Government House Clinic.

The governor later emerged from the clinic with neck brace to address the crowd that gathered at the Government House.

Fayose alleged that he was slapped and kicked by a police officer. He also alleged that he had been ordered to be killed.

A PDP source who requested anonymity said the police did not enter the Government House, adding that “nobody beat His Excellency” who had his security details with him.

Deputy Governor and PDP candidate in Saturday’s election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, also alleged that he was beaten by policemen.

The police said they stopped the PDP rally for security reasons and to maintain law and order.

Deputy Inspector General of of Police (Operations) Habila Joshak said the PDP neither sought for nor got permit for any rally.

Joshak said no unauthorised rally would be allowed in the state before Election Day on Saturday because of the prevailing security situation.

It was leant that the APC leadership wanted to organise a road show which the police declined to approve. It was promptly cancelled.

The Police Headquarters said “In furtherance to the presence of police officers around the Prof. Olusola Eleka pavilion at Fajuyi today (yesterday), two political parties intend to have their rally at the same date and in Ado-Ekiti metropolis but the commissioner of police advised the political parties in writing on the need to have theirn political activities at diferent time and because of the security implication.”

Prince Dayo Adeyeye, who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries, described Fayose’s claim as the latest “stunt” from “a clownish dramatist.”

It was not clear yesterday why it was only the governor who inhaled the teargas and how he got his neck injured as he addressed the crowd at the Government House wearing a neck collar.

The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) called for peace in the state.

Interim Chairman Adeleye Agbede said: “Ekiti are a peace loving people with unrivalled passion for education and development.

He called on Fayose and Ex-Governor Kayode Fayemi “to caution their teeming supporters against violence.”

Dramatically drama

To my own view I just think people like this fayose and even if I haven't got the chance of going for some years now to witness his works I can still feel he's most of Ekiti's residents choice, I school at Ekiti few years back and the fact is that I'm always in anticipation to leave immediately we've a break or even holidays which link to weekends, but for the past few years after I've left most of the people around me schooling there won't comes home even after semester breaks, they let me realize that Ekiti is now making moves and the social amenities are getting pleasant.

Anyways I just pray to God that any candidate that will benefit Ekiti residents should win the coming election.

To those who did not listen to what Fayose said after the whole incident; he said, when they started shooting the tear gas, he approached the police men and told them he is the governor, they told him governor my foot and he was then hit with the butt of a gun.

People have the right to gather for whatever reason as far its not criminal. There was no reason why what happened should be condoned no matter who you are supporting. SARS do not care to know whether u are pro APC or PDP when they want to intimidate you. undecided

A man said he was beaten.

You quote the denial of the alleged culprit (the police), and some nameless "PDP sources".

When Fela was beaten and his mother thrown down from a storey building and complications from the injury sustained led to her death, did army and government of the day claim responsibility?

Instructive to note that Buhari was a high ranking member of the military junta when Fela's case happened. Now a serving governor is being manhandled under the administration of the same man.

Did DSS and police not tap the telephone conversation of Fayose and Wike which later made it to social media?
Were we not in the country when Amaechi's security details openly blocked Wike' s movement in the streets of Port Harcourt with guns drawn?

Police have come out to say they will withdraw Fayose's security details over the election period. Is this not setting a bad precedence?
Should we then say that Buhari's security details should be withdrawn during the 2019 elections as both the governors and president are covered by the same immunity?

Buhari will set this country on fire and escape with his unemployable children now turned millionaires whilst "You all die one by one" like T.Y. Danjuma had predicted.

Say NO to impunity and anti-Democratic actions now or you Will all lose your freedom.

My own disappointment is the so called PDP governorship aspirant, eleka that is being hype and being commended by rccg telling lies that he, fayose is beaten. Can you imagine? He was beaten by police but not a single person snap pics. The has dss, police, personal aides and other loyalists there. The police just went straight and slap him like that and other people looking. I believe if that happens, blood will flow yesterday across ekiti state. Even the police man that fired at bamidele was beaten blue black talkless of a sitting governor.
A so called pastor, that never being voted for start telling lies up and down . This politicians are jokers and can only deceive the gullible 200million mumus.
