thanx,why?
Cos getting in like everyone is advising you should be your main concern. You are still a graduate with very little bargaining chips so concentrate more on passing the rigorous recruitment process.

Most people that negotiate salaries generally have something to offer and are able to back whatever claims they make. In fact these people are most likely to be head-hunted.

I've heard what all of you have said,I will keep all that all of you have said here, thanx, but still i want to know how much shell pays technical graduates,
production engineering?
Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by jaybee3(m): 11:47am On Jul 07, 2011
^^
Here you go => http://www.thebigchoice.com/Jobs/Shell/
That's the starting salary for UK graduates. Starting salary in naij will be a lil lower but as a technical graduate you should expect extra income from shift and offshore duties.

thanx,gives some idea
Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by dsaynt: 3:37pm On Jul 07, 2011
Lol.
My people there is nothing wrong in trying to find out how much different companies pay. It helps those that r trying to switch jobs, i.e. it gives them an idea of how much to bargain for. An entry level salary base gives and idea of the salary differentials so one would be able to tell which company pays better.
On that note everyone has been talking about the oil majors, what about the local ones? whats there pay like? I kmow it would be near what the majors pay but it shouldn't be that bad. So please does anyone have an idea? mucho gracias
Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by taflilou: 5:49pm On Jul 09, 2011
plz, which are the best suitable companies for telecom and networking engineers and
how much are they excepted to earn with no experience ?
Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by thomasjohn: 1:43pm On Jul 15, 2011
but we can all agree here dat Oil companies pay the most
Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by dsaynt: 12:53pm On Jul 26, 2011
yes we've all agreed that oil companies pay the most. What some of us want to know is which of them pay the most and what their entry level salaries are ( for technical and non-technical roles), this is a level playing(paying)ground that would give one an idea of whether they pay well.
On that note I recently learnt that Agrip is the highest paying E&P company in Nigeria contratry to the popular opinion that Chevron and Total pay the most.
What of the Local E&P companies? I hear Oando pays quite well, also heard that Sahara isn't paying that well anymore due to reduced political clout(don't quote me o!), so who amongst the local E&P oil companies pay well? any answers? anyone got a clue?
Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by tanimola22: 5:11pm On Jul 26, 2011
I am 80% sure that the take home pay for entry level grads at OandO lies in the interval(180K, 210K).
Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by dsaynt: 12:12pm On Jul 27, 2011
I beg to differ. 180k-210k? I seriously doubt that. I should put it in the range of 250k-300k for a fresh graduate. Afterall I know a fresh graduate in one of these local E&P oil companies that takes home 250k and Oando is a much bigger company in terms of size and most importantly revenue.
Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by Muza(m): 2:18pm On Jul 27, 2011

Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by dsaynt: 12:14pm On Sep 15, 2011
Another question for the house:
Hmmm, so since we've all concluded that oil companies pay a lot. What about manufacturing companies? which ones pay the most? e.g amongst PZ, P&G, GUINESS, NIGERIAN BREWERIES, NESTLE,CADBURY etc whichones pay the most and what is their salary like? Please entry level would be a better level playing filed when quoting salaries, and take home pay please.
Thanks

Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by Repubocrat(m): 10:29pm On Oct 17, 2011
Read the thread in its entirety out of curiosity, because TEPNG recently came to the states to recruit some engineers and after interviews, I got an email from them 3 weeks later which said they would wish to proceed to the next step of the recruitment process which is probably another interview.

They asked me what salary I anticipated. I said $70-80k a year, and I was just being modest. Other Naija guys that interviewed were asking for $90k, and they were pretty confident about their demand.

Over here, entry level petroleum guys from Royal Dutch Shell and Exxonmobil make nothing less than a $100k a year right out of school. Remember I said "Petroleum" guys especially drilling engineers. These figures don't apply to process engineers, or reservoir and completions specialties.

I should also add that servicing companies don't pay squat when compared to the operators.
Re: Best Paying Company In Nigeria? by TheOne2(m): 2:10pm On Oct 19, 2011
Guy, entry level petroleum engineers make more than $100k a year in Nigeria (Exxon, Mobil & Total). I'm not sure about Shell though.

Thanks for the reply.

My currency conversion was a little faulty. The guys I was talking about in my previous post were asking for 15million naira. I mistook 15million naira for $90k, but it's actually about a $100k, so you're right.  Nevertheless, that's mad cash for an entry level position.

Schlumberger Nigeria is the worse. Nigerian top shots in the company have sold out the locals in order to get promotions, Schlumberger international is very OK, but Schlumberger is far behind when compared to ELF, Chevron, Mobil and co,

Tell us why you made that accussation.

If you work for Schlumberger as an IM, that's good money for you, but if u work for Schlumberger in Nigeria u earn less that 30% of that. The so called Nigerian top shots are suppressing salary increase in-order to gain promotion and other selfish reasons.

Well that's by-gone for me as am off the hook. This is also the desire of many others 'cos i still have friends there.

What is IM?

How does suppressing salary gain promotion?

What is "other selfish reasons"?

This explanation is not clear.

Sagamite:

This explanation is not clear.

1. International Mobile

2. 'Suppressing' salary is meant to reduce operating cost and hence higher profit margins when revenue increases. The manager would be rewarded with a bigger bonus or a promotion if he has consistently posted larger profits. However, bereal16 is unaware that this practice is done in many companies all over the world and that they actually don't suppress the salary but the so-called IM staff are paid the extras as 'inconveniences'

3. I'm not sure about this perhaps he means that they shouldnt chase after their bonuses or something else. I'm guessing here.

He must've worked there for 5 years but he isn't sure how and why there is a pay disparity amongst staff in the same company and is holding only one reason valid. which I think is not the most important reason why his IM friend earned 70% more than him.
