Oga which one be your own with diasporas people dem collect your girl-fiend abi wetin now, samething in the other thread about Lekki Toll you are blaming Diasporas again and you swore u would not pay that toll, yet you get over N2MILLION A YEAR, HABA  are we to belive your cock and bull shiiit or just ignore you.

Mr Knowall

I honestly am struggling with giving you an appropriate response. I'm sure if you take time to go back to read my posts on nairaland from as far back as 2006 you will get a better understanding of who I am. For your information, I've been there and done that. I've lived in the UK, had my M.Sc there, and am usually not taken in by a lot of the BS that is spewed on here everyday. The fact that I chose to resist injustice as exemplified by the Lekki toll road shouldn't rub off on my professional accomplishments. I know what my expertise is worth whether measured against Nigerian standards or international standards and don't need the likes of you, Mr Knowall, to tell me. Lastly, make the above 20 million a year and not 2 million OK.
Politics / Re: Fashola Suspends Lekki Expressway Toll Collection by TheOne2(m): 11:33am On Dec 30, 2010
Again, a lot of ignorance being displayed especially by our folks in diaspora. This struggle is not about the concept of public-private partnerships and what have you. It's a struggle against a cabal's intention to enslave a people, many of whom have known no other homes since their forefathers settled in the fourteenth century. If LCC had taken the coastal road, built it whichever way they liked and cahrged whatever amount they want on it, very few people would have complained and they would have been stifled easily. But for tinubu, through LCC, to take the only existing road in a neighbourhood, resurface it and add a lane on either side, build 3 toll gates within a 24km stretch and intend to collect 120 naira per pass from motorists for 30 years is something that will not happen. You are free to have your opinions, but we who are on ground and feel where the shoe pinches will not allow this injustice. They should have dared to collect the tolls on January 3rd, then they would have seen what their eyes have never seen before. Bloody rogues!!! Vagabonds in power!!!

I keep asking, where exactly is my 3 million/annum tax going if govt cannot provide me an ordianry road. And I challenge any of you who is knowlegdeable about this axis to tell me just one thing that my taxes afford me in this state. Are we second class citizens even in this state? The ONLY benefit of governance we have is being taken and given away to the chief rogue, Tinubu, and you all say we shouldn't kick?

Make una siddon there!! If dem born dem well dem for try collecvt the toll na. We are waiting patiently, let them finish their deligerations.

@kobojunkie

Please what exactly is your profile? What skills are you bringing to the table? Which sector do you think you will fit into?

Right now I see you just asking generic questions. Take a cue from the OP and give us a brief profile that will enable us give you proper insights. I WILL NOT GO THROUGH THE INCONVENIENCE OF GIV ING DETAILS OF EVRY HIGH-PAYING JOB i KNOW so if you do as requested I might have specifics for you. I'll just say that there are A LOT of people earning about 2 million naira a month in Nigeria, I DO FOR ONE (I work in O&G).

On a general note, I see a lot of ignorance on nairaland especially from our kinsmen in diaspora. You can have a very good career in Nigeria with your integrity intact and not having to lick any bosses' ass, it just depends on the company you work for. There are a lot of companies with well laid-out structures designed to prevent nepotism and favoritism especially in appraisal and pay determination processes. Simply put, your direct boss does not determine your appraisal 100%. You have processes to fdeal with integrity issues that will keep the whistle-blower anonymous (for conflict of interest, corruption etc). Your pay is well laid-out and never comes in later than 24th of every month come rain or shine. Personally, over the last 5 years I've averaged about 20% pay increase per year. To summarise, investigate the particular company you are interested in and ask questions of insiders. That a good gauge, not what one anonymous person says on nairaland.
Politics / Re: Lekki-epe Way Tolling: The Big Fraud --- A Call To Resist This Slavery by TheOne2(m): 10:43am On Dec 24, 2010
I have been thinking about the dilema that is this road concession and I believe I have an idea that could be a win-win situation if properly considered by the state govt. The idea is premised on the fact that as a people who pay tax to the govt, we are entitled to amenities from the same tax collected from us. If they disagree with this, then the idea falls flat in its face.

Now to the idea: LCC has a scheme called e-tag in which you have an account with them which you top-up periodically. That way they can monitor your usage per annum. I am proposing that residents (and maybe non-residents of the area whichever way you look at it) be given what those in the US call tax returns that cover the charges they accumulate for using the road within a year. As is obvious, THIS WILL ONLY APPLY TO THOSE THAT ACTUALLY PAY THEIR TAXES!! That way the agitation that the tax paid entitles one to a road to his house is settled and the real cost is borne by thosae who don't pay taxes.

What do you guys think?
Politics / Re: Lekki-epe Way Tolling: The Big Fraud --- A Call To Resist This Slavery by TheOne2(m): 2:45pm On Dec 21, 2010
@jacobs123 God bless you plenty plenty

@xavier, it is apparent that you are very ignorant.

I personally am a stakeholder in this matter because I live and work in the axis covered by this road. The summary of what I've seen is just pure wickedness (govt's inhumanity to its citizens). Up until last week when schools closed, I used to leave my house by 4.30 a.m. in order not to get into the deliberate traffic caused by LCC, a journey which oirdinarily shouldn't take more than 10 mins. How do you expect me to spend 3 hrs moving from Ajah to Jakande (because of your incompetence) and then a little further in front pay you for cvausing me such inconvenience!! It's the height of insanity.

Fundamentally, the concession as being done is a big fraud. When they said we shoudn't allow their investments go to waste because of the money they've spent we decided to wait for the toll charges. Can you imagine that someone that lives in Crown estate and works in VI will be spending almost N1,000 on tolls DAILY!!! It all doesn't make sense. So what is the tax meant for? I oersonally pay over 3 million naira in taxes to this same state govt every year and I challenge anybody to tell me just one thing that my tax benefits me. I will really like to put this question to Gov Fashola, tell him where I live and where I work and challenge him to tell me what exactly his govt has done for me and thousands of people klike me in this place that pay millions in taxes every year.

The time for silence is over. If it takes blockading the road by sleeping across the roads, we will do it. Tinubu shld go and look for his slaves else where.
Politics / Re: Lekki Expressway Tolling Commences Jan 3 2011 by TheOne2(m): 5:45am On Dec 16, 2010
u dont know what u are talking about. The traffic is caused by HITECH themselves as they are incompetent in road construction. I don't understand how right now they expect people to feel happy about spending 3 hrs from Ajah to Jakande and then go and pay toll in phase 1. It means they are actually paying for discomfort.

Anyways, common sense is not so common.

@Nsiman

I am tired of this issue and this will be my last post on it. All the best to you and all those who have paid money. I understand that you are desperate for the whole thing to come out true, who wouldn't, afterall I wouldn't want to lose my money if I put it somewhere.

However, please step back to consider some points: I am only giving you food for thought when I say this.

1) How was it possible for the likes of Shell and Chevron to produce oil from the same offshore NigerDelta from 1965 to 1980 if it was impossible to do so before the invention of the paint?

2) Do you know that the red sea is the most corrosive sea in the world? Do you also know that oil production goes on there?

3) What is Nigeria's annual budget in dollars? I believe it is about $33 billion.

4) Knowing #3 above, do you understand the company structure of MPNU? MPNU is a JV company in which the nigerian government holds 60% stake through NNPC.

5) Now if MPNU agrees to pay commandclem $236 billion, in essence the Nigerian govt will pay commandclem 0.6 x $236bn = $141 bn. That figure my dear, is about 4 times our annual budget.

Do you then realise how unrealistic the whole story is?

I have so much more to say but I will stop here. As I said, it's just food for thought. Ruminate on these points and even more than that, take my questions to commandclem officials and let them give you REALISTIC answers.

I REST MY SUBMISSION.

Ciao!!
Business / Re: Mobil Agrees To Pay Commandclem $236.9 Billion (documents Attached) by TheOne2(m): 1:39pm On Oct 22, 2010
@Nsiman

The problem I've noticed with you is that you are oil industry-illiterate. You do not know anything about the oil industry and how it works (as evidenced by that thing you guys attached as Mobils production figures). When I saw that, i actually felt physical pain because it's unfortunate that somebody will bring out a document like that and not be ashamed to circulate it in public. If a petroleum engineer parades such document, he will be banned from practicing for life and I will personally petition SPE to get whatever school he claims to have gone to to revoke his certificate. That is the level of atrocity that that document amounts to.

I've practiced as a PE on the reservoir engineering and production operations side in this country and earned my M.Sc abroad and in all these years, I've not come across any commandclem paint used for coating pipelines offshore. Your professor might have acrried out a localized service for Mobil in those days but it's a travesty for him to ascribe such grandiose proportions to the reach of whatever he did (if he actually did). The whole thing is the best type of scam, build of mountain of falsehood on a foundation of a little truth. I am not quarreling with the fact that there is a case in court. But that is the only truth in this whole scam. Every other thing right from the claims in the case to the issue of patentees paying some advance money for life insurance is fraud. So the man loves you so much that he will willingly give out whatever he wins to you when he can keep all himself?

As an oil industry professional, I find the claims being made here on this thread totally preposterous and extremely laughable!!! It's actually quite unbelievable that anyone will peddle such and even more baffling that some people will believe. An analogy will be if someone claims that he found a way of protecting glo's masts and as such glo should pay him 5 naira for every minute of call made from its network forever? Does that make sense to you? Seeing that before glo masts were being built in all sorts of terrains and are still being built after glo?

Summarily, I just want to extend my condolences to you because you've just lost money. On the flip side, you've acquired an education on how not to invest so it's still ok to an extent. Cheers mate!!

@Nsiman

I work for a multinational oil company in Nigeria and I can assure you that we don't use commandclem paint or whatever you call it. Unless your paint is somehow taken to the US and the far east where we source our pipes from.

Also, the pipes actually have NO PAINTS at all on them. If we are concerned with corrosion, we use chrome steel.
Business / Re: Mobil Agrees To Pay Commandclem $236.9 Billion (documents Attached) by TheOne2(m): 4:43am On Oct 10, 2010
@fyneguy

My guy use ur head now? Didn't you hear of even more cogent sounding alibis in the days of the wonder banks? What became of all the filling stations and tankers that were sighted all over the country? And the forex trading, gold trading etc?

I can tell you for a fact that the whole of Mobil corporation worldwide, from the farthest regions of alaska to their operations in Australia cannot afford $236 billion. I seriously doubt if the whole company is worth $236 billion anyway. If there is any judgement of say even $10 billion against mobil today, they will pack their bags and leave Nigeria and their fields will revert back to govrnment.

Do u understand what royalty of $10/barrel means? The whole OPEX for mobil is not up to $10/barrel. So does it make sense that if I spend an avrage of $5/barrel running my business (paying staff, renting barges and generally my day-to-day expenses in keeping business running), I'll now agree to pay someone double that amount for a paint? That they couldn't have outsourced to a common university chemistry department in the US to produce for less than $100,000? Commanclem patentees are in a lose-lose situation here. Even if they have a case and win, if the penalty is too high, mobil leaves and govt will get another company to operate the fields. If it more realistic (low), then u guys don't get paid as ur getting paid is hinged on some gargantuan billion dollars penalty.

Lastly, any business in which the faces are pastor this, deacon that, pick race from there, na gbajue!!

My 2 cents.

Politics / Re: Lagosians Shouldn't Be Complaining About The Lekki-epe Expressway by TheOne2(m): 3:45pm On Jul 28, 2010
Guy

I'm a Fashola supporter because I see his vison but I must confess that they got it wrong on this one. It is a very callous idea that someone will pick up a fully functional 4 lane road, add one lane on both sides making it six lanes and then erect 3 toll gates within 30 kilometers and collect toll for 30 years!! Ahn Ahn, make we dey fear God now?

The most painful part is that they are now fencing off the entire stretch of road for greed purposes. A lot of people with property facing the road have seen their businesses nearly wiped out. If you look closely at the pix of the fenced toll road above, you will see that there are fully functional roads after the fence to serve those people but in Nigeria we prefer to import the toll and fence but not import provision of service roads as seen in the picture.

In summary, the whole transaction is brazen robbery and that it the point of the opposition. If people had been carried along, solutions would have been found and all the issues sorted but you don't just think you can bulldoze people with the instrument of government. Do you know that if you live around Sangotedo and work in VI, and lets say toll is 200 naira per pass (hypothetical though I've heard rumours this is it), you will spend 1200 naira DAILY on toll!! And you expect people to keep quiet? Again, for somebody like me who would prefer to stioll ply the old road, what is my alternative? Force me to pay 1200 naira daily? Do I have to swim the ocean to get to VI if I don't have money to pay? People forget that there are villagers in these places. Yes, the same way your village might be Ozubulu in Anambra is how you have villagers here too who are barely surviving. Yet, you just want to come and make things more expensive for them.

Solution: Might be impractical but if everybody living in Lekki from phase one down to Epe collate their taxes together monthly, I KNOW that in a year or two it will be enough to pay for the road. And you ask, are people in the area not entitled to enjoy government infrastructure? There's no single government hospital except in Epe. Only one school at Ikota which I don't think can take 100 pupils. So what exactly is the huge taxes paid by stakeholders there supposed to afford them? Subsidize ather parts of the state when they are living with government discomfort? Please let's think this thing through properly and not be carried away by sentiments.

My 2 cents,
Politics / Re: Obj Is Bad Yes, But He's Still Nigeria's Best Ever President. No Contest by TheOne2(m): 9:01am On May 25, 2010
Most people that say OBJ is the worst ever do not live in Nigeria. If you lived in Nigeria through the 90s into the 2000s then you will understand that OBJ was good for us. When I was in secondary school to my early university years in the 90s, it was almost unheard of for a graduate to get a job upon graduation. It almost became a curse to go to school then. But hen came OBJ with his policies and nearly evey sector was recruiting massively. More class in the university has more than 20 practicing engineers working in major IOCs in Nigeria who were recruited during OBJ years. I don't care about politics and whatever he did in the political arena. What concerns me more is jobs because it puts food on the table. Most graduates worth their certificates were employed in that period even if it meant working as a teller in the banks.

Since Yar'Adua became president, my company has not recruited a single engineer because they just stifled the whole industry with their policies while revrsing and re-reversing things. Can anybody in Nigeria compare today with say 2005 when it comes to jobs? Let's not be blinded by personal hatred for the man. For me personally, he was very good because the only future I saw for myself as a university student was to be an economic refugee in the west but because of the climate during the OBJ years, many like me are making a good living here in Nigeria.

I know someone (a girl) who travelled to the UK on another person's passport, married a guy who had earlier married his cousin to get kpali. Now she's legit. The funny thing is that while she lives with her husband and kids (they are both working), they claim officially to be divorced and she's just been given a council house to boot. This to me informs why some of these social workers can be disbelieving of Nigerians.

I do not see why some people see this as a waste. The truth is, most of those taxis are actually funded by private individuals through those comepanies. I got an offer from one of those companies to buy a car (part payment) and then the proceeds will be used to service the remainder of the loan, pay the company (driver, management fees etc.) and then my returns. Based on their forecasts it looked like a good investment. I did not take it up because they were only able to provide verbal guarantees of a minimum return per month. I wanted the guarantee on paper but it seems they wanted me to participate in the risk 100% which I wasn't comfortable with.

Overall, it's a good step as you can stay in your house and call a taxi if you need one. That shouldn't be the preserve of the people living in the west alone or are we sub-human here?

Quick question please:

If one intends to submit a visa application for a baby (10 months old) accompanying going with the mum to the UK on vacation, will it be a separate application? Or does one just include the baby's passport in the mother;s package.

Also, is it OK that the baby applies for a 2 year visa (being a first-timer) simply because the mother too is applying for a two years duration visa?

I'll be glad to get answers to these questions real quick.

Politics / Re: Black Hole: Nobody Knows How Much Oil Nigeria Sells by TheOne2(m): 7:20pm On Apr 27, 2009
I think it's absolutely preposterous for anyone to make the assertions in the article. I'm not one for long write-ups but I can confidently tell you that crude loading is one of the most scrutinized activities in Nigeria. Oil companies don't just sell oil at any place, there are loading jetties where you have DPR representatives strictly monitoring what is being loaded into tankers. The only oil that is unaccounted for is that stolen by the Niger Delta militants/bunkerers and their collaborators

I only wish we come to the understanding that the media is not 100% right at all times.
Culture / Re: Osu(out Cast) And Real Born In Igbo Land Discrimination by TheOne2(m): 3:21am On Mar 15, 2009
Anybody that says osu discrimination is gone is only living in denial as it is still very much around.

I personally know a friend that dated an osu girl for six years (without knowing) and she was very friendly with his family.

When he wanted to marry her, they went to investigate and found out she's osu. That's where everything changed. They insisted that he couldn't marry her. He tried fighting but couldn't change their mind. His mom being a staunch member of the church, he tried playing the christian card. He told her that they should go and ask their pastor for his opinion but the mom replied that even the pastor will not allow his child marry an osu.

That was indeed, THE END OF DISCUSSION!

Politics / Abuja Bound Plane Loses Engine Mid Air by TheOne2(m): 8:58am On Jan 18, 2009
AN Abuja-bound Chanchangi Airlines’ flight NCH 190 with 45 passengers on board, yesterday lost one of its twin engines shortly after take-off from the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos. The development, it was learnt, compelled the pilot to make an air return to base for safety.
Sunday Vanguard gathered that one of the engines caught fire around Mafoluku area, as the aircraft, Boeing 727-200, climbed to attain cruising level, and this was said to have sparked off panic and confusion among the passengers, especially coming days after an American Airways’ pilot ditched his aircraft into the Hudson River in New York, USA, after losing both engines to bird strike.

Consequently, an emergency was reportedly declared by the pilot, who landed the aircraft safely for passengers’evacuation. Chanchangi Airlines’ spokesman, Mr. Olu Balogun, who confirmed the incident, said the passengers were moved into another aircraft, a Boeing 737-200, for continuation of the journey to Abuja. Balogun said a distress call was made by the pilot after take-off at 10:00 a.m. after one of the aircraft’s engines had set off a fire alarm.

He said although the alternate engine could have taken the aircraft to its destination, the pilot acted wisely by discontinuing the journey for safety reasons. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is expected to conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire, as the aircraft is currently on ground at the Lagos airport.

Education / Re: Best School For Masters Degree In The UK? by TheOne2(m): 1:12am On Jan 08, 2009
For oil and gas related courses in the UK:

1) If you are interested in studying petroleum engineering (for those that know this means strong reservoir and production engineering aspects i.e. subsurface) then it's either Imperial College or Heriot Watt University. These are the two centres of excellence for petroleum engineering in the UK(Imperial for England and HWU for Scotland). When it comes to petroleum engineering, these schools rank side by side for employers in the UK though Imperial is more popular to the layman in Nigeria. The oil industry in Nigeria also reckons with these two.

2) For surface production, process, facilities engineering etc, the above two and RGU etc are your best bets. RGU is not strong on the subsurface side but do very well in the areas I've mentioned.

Aberdeen is very good with subsea engineering, along with Cranfield University. For pipeline engineering, it should be Cranfield and Newcastle.

Summarily, a lot of people just say they want masters in oil and gas but don't specify which area and as such get the wrong advice
