Health / Re: Midlife Crisis: Am I Slowly Becoming Addicted To Alcohol? by Timsilver(m): 1:45pm On Mar 03, 2023
gard9ner:
I never realised that alcohol can be this enjoyable, all my life I’ve always detested ppl that drink, whenever the topic comes up I always remember a certain wealthy man when I was younger, even with all his wealth he would drink himself to stupor every night and vomit, his driver would have to carry him, it was a very bad experience as neighbours to witness those nights especially as a young boy. So I concluded that drinking is unacceptable and I grew up with that ideology, not until recently I’ve started having a rethink.

For sometime now, especially couple of weeks ago leading to last Saturday’s election, I’ve been having a difficult time, I feel like I’m drowning sometimes, maybe it’s midlife’s crisis I don’t know, I don’t know how that feels but what I know is that I was gifted a bottle of expensive vodka last week and I accepted knowing fully well what I was getting into, I knew I was going to step into another phase in my life, I could have sold the drink but no, I kept it.

Like I said already, it’s been rough with me lately, the current cash crunch in the country isn’t helping, the last strew came when last Saturday’s election was announced by 4am, I was awake watching, it struck me like a bolt of lighting, I felt speechless physically but this deep hurt like my soul was groaning. Fast forward to date, I’ve consumed a couple of bottles like bloody mary, VSOP and other spirits which I mix in chilled soft drinks. I so much enjoy this new habit, I can never drink to stupor, I just lock up myself in my lounge, play some music and sip away or lock myself in my car at night and sip with music, I stop when I start feeling a bit sleepy, I just sleep quietly and peacefully. My wife just smells the stuff on me but hasn’t said anything, as I still talk reasonably and even engage her with more humor in those hours, I’ve also noticed that the house is stress-free, no arguments or hard conversations when I consume too.

Here’s my problem guys, deep inside me I know I’m doing something wrong, which is why I’m posting this anyway, even though I feel peaceful when I consume. I wasn’t raised this way, my father was never an alcohol person. I feel something is wrong and somehow I feel like I’m drowning and need help (laughs). I don’t know if this will get worse overtime or if I might be tempted to do more than this in future. I know I can never do drugs, smoke etc but this highness things is eating me, I just finished the last bottle of Strumbras spirit now which I shared with a visitor, I now think it’s even more pleasurable sharing a drink with someone. I’ve ran out of bottles now and I’m considering restocking but I’m led by the spirit to post this, I don’t want preaching, I just want to read other ppl’s comment and experience and how they navigated this phase of life (midlife crisis), preferably elders in the house if any, if you’re 40 and below and have no useful contribution pls don’t comment. I need this to get to FP. Thanks.

There's nothing seeing with you or the habit.

From your right up you are doing just fine.

See the bolded.

Been sober can not buy that.

At this stage of life your sleep and good night rest is of utmost importance.

Anything that would deprive you of good sleep would harm you.

Hope your Blood pressure is normal and if it is your new found habit might help you maintain it.

Hello professionals....

I want something like this but the bricklayer insisted na block dem go use for the pillar....I have told him to stopped and look for a professional.... Please is he supposed to use a block as pillar to get same results ?

Ask him if the columns would be reinforced with steel. If his response is yes. Ask him for the the steel details. There nothing wrong with using blocks of it's properly reinforced.

Thanks, I appreciate the pep talk.

Now, if one is to construct several blocks of one storeyed selfcontain with each block containing just 4 units, will the plan cover ALL the blocks on the land or will it be for just one block, since the remaining will just be replica of the first?

The plan should cover the entire lot for development which includes all the Individual units. That's one of the essence of having a plan before construction.

Good afternoon house. I finally joined nairaland because of this thread. I have been here as a guest for a while and I have learnt so much. Thank you all for the useful contributions and insights. God bless you.

I’m thinking of starting my project by January and see what I can achieve by the end of next year. I have some questions though:

Can 5 million raise a 4 bedroom bungalow from foundation to roofing? Please bear in mind that the land was previously a fish pond but that has been discontinued for over 5 years but the pond area is still open and wasn’t filled.

Also gurus in the house recommend a good hand for house plan. Its a 30x120 half plot, I want a sexy (lol) 4 bedroom plan.

NB: if you’re a drawer, please don’t contact me. I’ll only reach persons referred to me by the people I consider as well versed on the thread. Thank you.

I have a plan you can consider. I can send it to you for free and; if it meets your taste(sexy). You can consider it. It's the 3D only.

Take DNA tests serious at your own peril. That stuff is 50/50. In case you don't understand what I mean by 50/50, I mean 50% accuracy and 50% error prone (inaccuracy). I have watched a foreign movie where DNA TEST RESULT created very devastating irreparable damage to a lovely family but at the end, it was an error. The woman was devastated. So many Melanite American Negros were said to originate from various parts of Africa following DNA testing but they are finding evidence to the contrary in recent times. There are better ways to find out true paternity.

You are talking about "Ancestry test" here.

This is exactly how one Rochas man use to campaign for him for years before he became governor on Channels TV. I wish I took note of his name.

That man wasted my time and day dreams visualizing what Rochas would do if he becomes the governor.

How did it end?

That's not necessary in these case.

Take a look at your life and see how far you have come without dabbling into these things.

Ask for forgiveness.

Source for prayer points against slander and false accusation.

There are psalms for such purposes.

Pray and fast.

God would see you through even if you are guilty.

I'm almost 20 and my parents have never mentioned anything about sex to me, not even to tell me me about abstinence.

The only time my mum has even come close to telling me about sex was when our neighbour's daughter was raped, she told me I should be careful with boys and even if I wanted to have sex I should use a condom, I was quite surprised though.

I wonder if they'll ever discuss it with me, or maybe it's too early, or are they shy or scared to approach the topic.

I'm a bit worried.

Wow, what else do you want to hear.

Health / Re: My Failed Lasik Surgery Experience by Timsilver(m): 8:17pm On Jul 15, 2020
MimieJay:
So, I am short-sighted. I started wearing glasses 15 years ago officially and that is more than half of my life. WOW!

Now To My Experience…

On the day of my appointment, I had to go through a series of tests before the surgery. The first thing was to get my eye-power read. The machine read it to be -6 (minus 6) then a manual test was conducted and it read -5.5. They had to check my prescription glasses as well and it read -5 and -5.5. The doctor goes, “It’s not supposed to read this”. He said two of those readings were supposed to match at least. I almost panicked.

I was then given an eye drop to relax my eye nerves and I went for another test.

It was at this test that I found out I had been wearing the wrong prescription glasses for about 3 years. E shock you?! Me too! I discovered that I should be using a prescription of -3.75 thereabout and the current prescription I use reads -5. I wasn’t sure whether to be angry or happy. Happy because I might not be that ‘blind’ after all.

I proceeded to ask the doctor how I was able to see with the glasses for so long. He told me that my nerves accommodated it and that I needed to get my nerves in place before I can eventually get the surgery done. I was given another prescription and he recommended that I also get daily contact lens, disposable ones.

In short, I wasn’t able to get the surgery done. To think I was already anticipating how wonderful my sight would be and how I would pepper all the haters. It was a sad ending.

Thank you for reading.

When you finally undergo the surgery kindly update us.

No vex say you miss the promo or did you pay in advance?
