Touching!

Title/Class causes disparity and division. If in our everyday dealings and interaction we can look beyond title for once and see everybody foremost for what they are - human beings, the world would be a better place.

She's a student, he's a conductor, this status could change anytime but one "unchanging" fact about them is that they are human beings...

Romance / Re: Vertedness by Tinkybabe(f): 4:26am On Sep 15, 2014
Someone came here with a similar problem last year and this was my advice.

Tinkybabe: Op you lack confidence because you are scared of rejection.
One thing you should know is that rejection is almost inevitable.The world's most successful people have at one point in their lives faced rejection but why they have risen to the height they are now is because they didn't allow the rejection or fall to deter them.They kept trying and used these rejections to their advantage.

About women,first of,women are human beings and are not superior to you.The worst a girl can say to you is no.One thing you should have at the back of your mind when walking up to a girl is that it could be a win or a lose situation.

Now on approaching girls,try to make friends with them first-don't come on too strong.In fact try not to make a romantic relationship your priority...Just come on as a basic friend.

Engage them in general and sensible convos,be humorous whilst being yourself and just endeavour to socialise generally-with the right company of course..

Build that confidence not just in a bid to get a girl but to make yourself a better and stronger person overall.

Thumb sucking by babies and toddlers- a genetic disorder? Nawa o!what won't I read on nairaland.

It's as natural as anything- not a disorder o!

If it continues till adulthood, it could be attributed to some sort of habit induced disorder-- yet ,not in all cases.

Nice one!

It was also obvious that the behaviour was not typical of Kunle. His bad day triggered that action which his wife understood perfectly, his response to his wife's query proves it.

Let me introduce a twist to your story
After Esther asked if he had a bad day,his response, " what silly question are you asking me?I just complained about the house being messy and you're asking me a silly question. "
"But honey, I'm just concerned about you" replied Esther quietly but the harsh "save it for yourself!" she got from her husband sent a cold shiver down her spine.

In this instance, silence is best whilst he's left alone to be by himself ..The wife could then approach him later to ask what the problem is/was?

Patience is the engine oil of effective communication.

Op, nice tips and example by the way

Education / Re: Are You Game?! Try This Quantitative Reasonin Question. by Tinkybabe(f): 10:00pm On Jul 22, 2014
You must be a business man paranorman

primary cost price of 1 milk tin = m
secondary cost of 4 milk tins =(500%)m =5m
" " " " " " " " 1 milk tin =5m/4 =1.25m

Price of one milk at stipulated rate = r
profit from total sale =(5/100)5m =0.25m profit
therefore 4r= (5+0.25)m = 5.25m
r= 5.25m/4 = 1.312m

Final selling price of each milk = [1.312m(40%) +1.312m] =1.837m
FSP of all 4 tins =4 x 1.837m = 7.35m

Customer gave 1250%(1.25m) = 15.625m

1) New unit profit = (1.837-1.25)m =0.587m
% profit in unit cost price = (0.587/1.25)100 = 47%

2)buyer's change =(15.625 -7.35)m = 8.275m
% fraction in total cost price= (8.275/5)100 =165.5%

Panoraman it seems you have a knack for giving unclear questions..
Is the cost price referring to Taye's cost price?
Is the selling price,the price it was sold to Taye or the stipulated selling price?

**confused**
Education / Re: Solve This Simple Mathematics If You"are Smart by Tinkybabe(f): 11:34am On Jul 22, 2014
let the no of cars each had initially be

Wale= z ,Femi =y ,Dele = x

STEP 1:Wale gave Femi and Dele y and x cars respectively
ie
Wale= z-(x+y)
Femi=y+y= 2y
Dele= x+x=2x

Let the no of cars left with Wale be t
Hence
T= z-(x+y) equ i

STEP 2:Femi gave Wale t cars and Dele 2x cars , hence has left
2y -(t + 2x)

STEP 3: Dele gave Wale 2t cars and Femi 2y-(t+2x) cars ,therefore he is left with

4x-[2y-(t+2x) +2t]

So in total each has
Wale ; 4t = 24 equ 1
Femi ; 2[2y-(t+2x)]= 24 equ 2
Dele ; 4x-[2y-(t+2x) +2t] = 24 equ 3

from equ 1 , t= 6

from equ 2 , 2y-(t+2x) = 12
2(y-x) = 12+6 = 18
y-x = 9
y = 9+x equ ii

from equ 3, use y = 9+x
4x-[2(9+x)-6-2x+2(6) =24
4x -[(18-6)+12]= 24

4x = 48
x= 12
y= 9+12 = 21
{from equ i; t = z-(y+x)}
6=z-(21+12) ; z= 6+33
z = 39

Therefore initially,
Wale had 39 cars
Femi had 21 cars
Dele had 12 cars

McWhillion: Q1
Q2- The question says what % of the profit is the markup price?

There is a difference btw "markup" and "markup price".
*markup--- is the 14 whole 2/7% increase of the original price.
*markup price---- is the original price + markup.

According to the info you already provided,
Markup price= 2t.
Profit =3/4t.

Ans= 2/(3/4) in %.
=2.667 *100
=266.7%approx.
* By the way, you're very good, your method is simple and straightforward.

Thanks for the compliment

But I quite disagree with your no 2, no doubt the Op is the cause of this problem because of the great ambiguity of the question

Anyway, here go..I disagree both grammatically and logically

1) For clarity sake- let's use "increase" instead of markup.
If he meant the final price , it would have been phrased as marked up price ie increased price not increase price /price increase.

Price increase refers to the amount of money added to the original to arrive at the final price.

2) If we are to go with your claim, expressing the final price as a percentage of profit made defies business reasoning .

This is because your profit is the difference between the cost and selling price and making the mark up priceyour final price to get percentage profit means the total selling price is a profit and we know this isn't true

Education / Re: Not For The Weak Minds; Try This Quantitative Reasoning Question. by Tinkybabe(f): 2:31am On Jul 21, 2014
Let's assume she left home with t(20% of total money)
She left at home 4t (80% of total money )
and In total had 5t

Initial price of radio= (0.25t + t)= 1.25t= 5/4t
Final price = 50%(4t) = 2t
Original (should have been) price = y =7/4t

2t= y+(100/7%)y
2t= y+1/7y= 8/7y

Hence y = 2t(7/8 )= 7/4t

Now we have a uniform variable

1) difference btw original and initial price as a percentage of total money

Ie (7/4 -5/4 )t = 1/2t or 0.5t

% of total money = (0.5/5)100= 10%

2) what percent of the profit is the mark up price?

Total profit made = final price -initial price
ie. 2t - 5/4t = 3/4t

Mark up price = (100/7)% of y = (1/7)7/4t = 1/4t

(Recall y = 7/4t from above)

Percentage profit in mark up price =
(1/4 divided by 3/4)100
(0.25/0.75)100

= 33.33%**

PS-
Op..the second question is ambiguous- do you mean profit made from original price or final price?
I assumed profit from final price though.

heykims: With all due respect,a medical doctor's line of duty can never be threatened by a nurse, what do nurses know?
A nurse is only there to carry out d plans documented by d doctor, their job is just to execute d doctors' order, so i don't see any threat to d line of profession of a magistrate who sentences by d prison officials who carries out d order.
As such, d little clinical experience re only derived when carrying out d docs' plan of management, so they then get to learn different lines of management of various health conditions from d docs' documentation, they av no formal training.
Nursing students ain't taught ow to examine patients nd neither do they acquire skills of diagnosing in school (who will even teach them when even d qualified nurses don't know it coz it isn't required to discharge their duties), so i then begin to wonder if it is even appropriate for nurses to establish coz they don't av d formal training to manage patients..
In fact it is funny nd i see it abnormal also coz once a nurse graduates from school wt a degree (Bnsc or so), she doesnt require any further education to get promotion to d highest nursing rank, she/he just sits carrying out docs' plan nd promotion keeps coming wt years spent. This is absurd..

How myopic you are!well, I do not blame you, I only blame the environment that you grew up in which has stuffed your head with fallacious thoughts and blocked your eyes to enlightenment.

I only pray that you have the opportunity of travelling and observing how healthcare runs in developed countries so that you can understand that every healthcare profession is significant and each has a vital role to play in patients' care.No healthcare professional is taught to be a pushover or just take orders but they are armed with immense skills that enable them to work collectively and collaboratively with others to manage patients' health..

Actually, I wouldn't expect the latter to make meaning to you, but well..get some education!

Education / Re: Why You Shouldn’t Go Into Medical School by Tinkybabe(f): 1:56pm On Jul 08, 2014
It's a pity many couldn't articulate the Op's write up and rather than ask for elucidation, they resort to cheap insults and baseless conclusions.

Well, I took my time to read the post and this is what I can infer from it.
Even though the original poster didn't use the best topic , he was able to drive home some points .

1] Your reason for choosing to study medicine should go beyond "I just love caring for people". If it's the case, there are other professions that require you to exhibit your caring attitude in which case he highlighted teaching as an example.

2] You are good in science doesn't mean you'd excel as a medical doctor/dentist.A deeply rooted passion for the profession is the main priority and all these other things would follow..

3] Money: This is the last reason anyone should study medicine especially in a country like Nigeria..The level of hard work and stress that you put into the profession is not exactly evident in the pay, at least for the first few years of your career..So if money is your driving force..Think again- medicine may not be for you!

Not disregarding the importance of the points above, The collective points can reinforce one's passion for the profession with emphasis on the first two and make one give it their all against all odds.. But making a big mistake would be using either of these reasons as a focal point to study medicine.

In summary, medicine is no piece of cake..Be sure it's really what you want before plungering yourself.

50calibre: Nigeria is a fo*lish country, the politicians occupy themselves with thoughts of how to fleece the ordinary man of his hard earned money.

The days of TV licensing in the UK are numbered, it's becoming unfeasible to enforce it, given the rise in mobile technology, People now watch television on their mobile devices.

Nigerians should learn to emulate good aspects of foreign culture, not the obsolete ones. Looking at NTA, it's hard to believe is TV station of the 21st century, it looks like something straight out of the 70s.

You just talk through your arse sometimes..days of TV licensing numbered in the UK indeed..TV licence is not limited to owning or watching a television set .. As long as you're steaming a live broadcast on any device including mobile phones, tablets and computers, you have to pay for a TV licence and God help you if you're discovered not to have been paying it.

If Nigerians want development, the masses would have to bear the brunt for a while..
No doubt our govt officials are exploiters but all things being equal bear in mind that no pain no gain..The most important thing is getting the worth of what's being paid for.
