Hi all, does this passport tracker status mean that the passport is with DHL? Any idea of a timeline within which one should expect to get the passport back after this stage? Thanks in advance.

Hi, looks like they have changed requirement for interview waiver. It now has to be visa issued after Jan 2020 and MRV receipt bought before May 2022. Someone please confirm?
Hi, my mom had a Dropbox appt at Lagos this Friday and I noticed that under the instructions in the appointment letter, it had changed that IW requirement to visas issued after January 2020. However, we couldn’t afford to not attend that appointment as her 24 months Dropbox eligibility would expire after November so she went and they didn’t give her any issues. I also checked the us consulate’s website and the eligibility for IW still states visas expired within 24 months so I don’t even understand. Anyway, fingers crossed. I hope this helps and anyone else with an experience with this can maybe also contribute.

Fill employment and your noc and other details as required. Do not fill internship.
nelronaldo:

Please should I indicate that the house job was an internship or housemanship? Or I should just state, I work there as a doctor?
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 7 by vcole: 5:36am On Feb 28, 2019
You can use both your housejob and nysc work experience, as long as you get a work reference letter from your employers and have additional evidence of employment such as employment letters, payslips, bank statements with salary deposits and so on. For nysc, a work reference letter from your ppa, proof of salary payments. You can opt to include a copy of your nysc posting letter if you have it. Basically, all evidence of your employment that you have would be beneficial.
nelronaldo:

How did you use your internship. With the internship, it will be more than two years.
Also, without NYC then it is 9 months. So the NYSC is important.

Congrats @Tojued! In my mind you were already in Canada oh!
Congrats @bukzie, what a ride!

@55emem55, check the answers you filled in your questionnaire. Specifically the question “how many years do you have in any of these professions” that comes after they mention and list out the trades occupations. If you filled any answer in that column, the system would assume that you should be in the federal skilled trades category and not FSW, hence rendering your profile ineligible.

Not exactly “we’ll informed” but from what I’ve read on the news, the previous liberal government made post secondary schooling tuition-free for low income Ontario residents. This created a $12 billion deficit and is not sustainable for OSAP. The new government is scrapping the tuition free policy and is reducing tuition fees across board for post secondary institutions by 10% beginning 2019/2020 academic session and then freezing fees for the 2020/2021 session. This does not impact eligibility for grants for students which are usually assessed when student loan apps are submitted.
czaratwork:
https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.flare.com/news/doug-ford-changes-for-ontario/amp/

Those of us in Ontario, the time to enjoy the OSAP loan is now especially the part of it that you don't have to repay. By next year, a lot will change. I hear people are rushing to enjoy it while it lasts.

If you have the intention to go to school, delay no further as we don't know what OSAP will look like next year.

Please anyone well informed should enlighten us on changes in OSAP loan.

Thank you very much.

On days when the 5yr old is not in school, can I keep her in a dayhome or daycare?

5 year old - kindergarten. Usually 2 days a week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) and alternate Fridays for 3hrs a day- you decide between morning (8:30-11:30) or afternoon (12:30-3:30). Times may differ slightly per city, province, private vs public but generally the schedule would look as above.
4yr old can attend preschool if you want, usually 3 days a week for 3 hrs a day option of morning or afternoon as above.
Before and after school care would cover for hours before school and after up until 5 or 6pm dependent on your provider.
You can also opt not to place your 4yr old in preschool and go with a daycare or dayhome. Hours are usually 7am-5pm with slight differences based on your provider.

HR - I believe the CPHR qualification is what is preferred on this side of the pond
Adunnee:
Good day everyone. I have some questions for the seniors who have landed in Canada.

1. What time do schools open and close? I have 2 toddlers- 5&4. Can I keep them in school from morning till evening?

2. I'm an HR professional with a certification with HRCI. How do I blend? Are there courses I would need to take before getting a job? Is it possible I get a managerial level role in HR or do I need to start from entry level

I would say go with option 1. Let the school of nursing principal give you a reference letter on their letter head. The dates of employment start and end should match your nysc dates (start and end as in your discharge certificate). When you fill the name of employer in your EE form, fill Name of nursing school, Ministry of health just to be on the safe side. Your account statement should be able to show proof of salary payment. As for NOC I would say the one that says College/vocational but read through both and decide which best fits your job duties at the time.

Thanks @blessings2017 @misschristine @dulles25 for sharing your info for FTL pathways.
@denaven I think that you may need to consider structuring your business in a way that operations would work without you and you take on more of. Senior management role which can be done remotely when you are not on ground and then you go back and forth as needed, while exploring options for businesses or jobs on this end. Congrats on your PR. I guess the immigration ministers public policy on medical inadmissibility that went into effect last summer worked in your favour.

Hi @blessings2017 not a lawyer but following your posts on the Nca and foreign lawyers pathway smiley
As for everyone else who made posts about a profession or location that they have not been able to find any info on, I think it would be a good idea to find out whatever info you can online or on other forums that may not necessarily be Nigerian anyway and then post your info or just your experience thus far trying to get info and then just sharing and brainstorming with other people who would most likely see your posts and chip in. It may help someone else in the future or would help put things in perspective when others chip in.
Other professional pathways that seem like they have been discussed in detail were not always like that, as people found info they posted and it just added to the body of knowledge we all share.
I am saying this as a suggestion only and it is not intended to offend anyone.
That being said, I do know of one quality assurance mgr, first degree microbiology and years of experience in several quality mgt roles in food and beverage industry in Nigeria and getting here was able to get a job as a QA after a couple of months of applying and interviewing. We are not in touch anymore. One way of figuring out what may be required to get a job you want is by reading the skills and qualifications on job ads on indeed or any other site.

Rotflmao! To be a lil’ bit more “clinical” with numbers. Let’s just do some elementary mathematics. 320k/mth is about $1130/mth, annual $13560. Minimum wage is $15/hr here, for a 40hr week job comes to $28,800 annual income. On numbers alone (without relativity). Even after tax, still trumps the 320k/mth naija job. This is without factoring the “wahala” tangible and intangible costs and other things like life expectancy etc etc.
Nogen:

if it were about salaries, a lot of us won't even make any move. It is beyond salaries. It is about staying in a sane environment where your life matters, where your children's education, health, wellbeing matter. Abeg, Naija wahala supersedes any salary earned there.

@joo2018 it depends on your landlord and preferences. I don’t think most landlords would rent a 2 bed condo for instance to a family with 3 kids. Some would but most would opt to go with a family with 1 or 2 kids over 3. In this instance I am using kids to refer to 0-5yrs

Please landed Seniors in Calgary.
I need your advice regarding booking an Airbnb in advance?
On the average, how long is it advisable to book? How long is it likely to take us to get accommodation after landing in calgary?
I am landing in April. ( Family of 4). I want to book our Airbnb on time so I need an idea of how many days to book?
I think it boils down to how much you are willing to spend and how long you think it would take to get a place of your own. You may want to start out with 1 week and see how it goes.

@TheCongo2, I don’t know about Canada but I know the US has a R visa or something similar that is for sponsoring religious leaders like foreign pastors on like a work permit status for churches. I don’t know if talking drummers fall into this category though. Is drumming a skilled trade here? (Insert thinking emoticon)

I think you really did go overboard here with this response. How do you make such assumptions laced with insults from a reply to a post on an online thread? C’mon. We really do need to learn to have productive conversations and embrace divergent views on issues. @toboy did not deserve this response.
TheCongo2:

There we go again...

In 2018, most if not all white in North America will be extremely careful to say this to a black person, very afraid indeed . Usually white people in North America walk on eggshells when interacting with black people.

But for a white person to summon the courage to tell you what you have wrote, that tells me a lot about you. You must be an extreme pushover and he took advantage of that. He took you for a dumb or someone anyone can offend with no fear of repreasal.
Are you the type of black who says things to please the white master? He may have sensed that you have an extreme low self esteem toward white people.

You even told him you understood him. Com'on now!
Someone once told me that the bullies have the eyes to see who to mess with and who not to mess with.
Personally, just as the majority of black people, no white will ever tell me this poo in my face. I am so surprised that in Canada a white person can say this to a black person. Yes, we have racism in Canada but it never blatant. It is rather subtle.

And this is the rubbish you come to post on Nairaland (a mostly black forum).
Some black will go to the extend of selling their family and culture in the name of what the white man had said.

@sistaj, you would find a place. Just keep searching. Most people won’t want to co-sign a lease with you unless you already have a personal relationship mostly because of the implications if you happen to default. Try kijiji and other rent apps, maybe reach out to other landed immigrants if there is an Ottawa whatsapp group. I dont think you should fret about your kids and school. They can enroll and start anytime. I wouldn’t recommend staying at a shelter though.
