Nairaland / General / Random Thoughts On Our Connectivity. by vickyO(f): 3:07pm On Nov 29, 2019
No generation has been this exposed and globally connected.

We live in a day and age where from the corner of a room, we can lead a pack of common-minded people. Some platforms call them followers, others refer to them as friends

Moreover, we're just a tweet or post away from garnering the public's attention, albeit for a moment (when we go viral).

How does online social interaction affect our daily lives?

Our online social interactions greatly affect our daily lives. These effects may be either positive or negative. We have seen or heard people commit suicide as a result of being bullied or pressured by comparison; same applies to those who have gained recognition for something said or done.

In protecting our truths, how do we handle our many social media exchanges?

Our truths are greatly exposed and challenged during our online dialogues. Some opinions amplify the flaws in our perspectives while others verify the veracity of our perspectives.

Our conversations may go back and forth as we sometimes find ourselves trying to get others to at least see, if they can't understand our angle.

However, usually, it appears that the person with the sharpest wit, wins. Not the one with the more balanced outlook.

Applying objectivity and subjectivity when digesting opinions is very very crucial.

We must learn to apply objectivity when accepting the opinions of others. If not, we'd subject ourselves to the opinions of random strangers who know nothing about us.

Keyword, never take opinions of strangers personally.

In a world where we seek constant validation to keep our esteems above water, it's necessary to remain objective. If possible, create your own online safe space.

Protect your Soul.
Protect your Mind.
It's first the opinion of God, then yours and maybe others.

It takes two to connect, enlighten, contribute. wink smiley

Anyone supporting the continuity of this regime isn't being fair to thousands that died as a result of the activities of the herdsmen.

They aren't being fair to thousands of civilians and military officers who died as a result of the activities of Boko Haram.

They aren't being fair to the independence of the judiciary and the need to uphold the rule of law.

They aren't being fair to the 91million people living below poverty line.

They aren't being fair to citizens who die due to the dire state of our hospitals.

They aren't being fair to the national character.

They aren't being fair to our intelligence.

They aren't being fair to humanity.

They aren't being fair to common sense and good judgment.

Politics / Re: Lessons I Learnt From Greece And It's Relationship With The Nigerian Polity by vickyO(f): 7:32pm On Feb 11, 2019
Tianamen1:
The Legislature makes the law, that determines the economic and political stance of a nation.

They are the most powerful arm of government. They can impeach a President.

The problem is most legislators are not very educated and exposed. In fact, many of them are either sponsored by the executive or a former members of the executive branch. Complicating things, the general public is not educated enough not to vote in these cretins into power.

They're the highest paid.

Their high salaries are a symptom of the problem and not the problem itself. Malaria causes head ache but taking only panadol will not cure you. The problem is the lack of quality education at the basic level. We cannot have sensible discussions that would move this nation forward if a majority of our people cannot write formal letters or add 1\8 + 1\8.

If I ask you, who's the Senator and Honourable representing your constituency?
You might have no idea?

I work in one state and travel home on some weekends to another state. My parents are from a third state. I know most of the political office holders in all three states. Some even personally, that is why I can boldly say that the problem is lack of knowledge.

Revolution begins when we start to call these guys out, holding them accountable.

Only the Nigerian masses can start a revolution in my opinion and a revolution can occur in two ways: through the ballot box or bloodshed. It is easier to put all our eggs in one basket by voting for just one seat that is powerful enough to make changes than for us to concentrate on so many seats.

They to a great extent determine the progress or retrogression of Nigeria.

There are also victims of our poor priorities. Their high pay is a symptom. With education and exposure, their incomes will have to fall cause the people will not take their nonsense.

If you challenge them, they will challenge other arms.

The Obasanjo brought UBEC law to them. They passed the law. The state governors have refused to implement the law and the state governors are their god fathers. What do you want them to do. Did you see the picture of honorable mumuni jibrin of bebeji constituency sitting on the floor while hajia hafsat ganduje and her beautiful daughter were seated on chairs. This is the problem we are facing.

I love your thought process... Simply beautiful!

Our leaders are losing it.

The citizens are losing it.

Very soon, Nigeria will be an asylum ( if it isn't one already).

Just look at us. In 2019, this is Nigeria's daunting reality. The so called giants.

It's a shame.

This government just keeps hitting new lows. The competition is now between those whose standard's the lowest. They now want to question him because he is meeting with the one who called them lifeless.

I just want a supporter of the APC to give me the positives of the past 3/4 years. Apart from corruption and some completed projects.

You claim Nigeria is corrupt, well, that means we all are corrupt. Let's then go on a nationwide anti-corruption raid and see who'll be justified.

You think it's best to lock up your shop - your means of livelihood - so you can chase after criminals.

Well, the goods in the shop are already expiring and it's ironic that most of the criminals paid the ransom and are now working with you.

How are going to win when you're not right within?

I had to hold tears back. To watch your father die and listen to your entire family's harrowing screams of death is the worst kind of horror. As I read it, I felt like hugging her. Teaching her son to trust and love again - those who killed her family.

You never remain the same.

Most Nigerians (Including the “Educated” ones) still don’t realize that sexuality isn’t a choice... no one would chose to be queer, odd and ostrasized if given the choice.
Do they think this young man decided to make hinself gay or do something thag would deliberately cause his family a great deal of sorrow?

I feel so bad for his mum, but with all sincerity, it is what it is. Given the culture and responsibility expected of Male children in Nigeria, I really do hope they have another son.

That it isn't a choice doesn't make it right.

What if he loved animals or under aged girls??

The question is who holds the moral compass?
In my opinion, it's the SOCIETY.

Romance / A Short Write Up About The Intricacies Of Sex by vickyO(f): 1:01am On Dec 22, 2017
For something so explosive as sex, I believe it should be indulged in with discretion. I can't imagine creating soul ties with multiple partners. Funny thing is that a part of them is forever etched in our being, especially when we deeply loved.

A guy on instagram spoke about the ineptness of religious people in avoiding sexual relations. The pictures uploaded shows that when sex occurs where love and adoration abound, there's flow of emotions and even information in one's dna is unlocked. That is almost life altering!!!

Sexual intimacy is best reserved for someone with whom one would be with for the rest of one's life because sex tightens bonds and causes couples to reproduce kids whose beings are deeply rooted in theirs.

Sexual act is the point at which most humans are most vulnerable and bare, so please forgive me for being reserved and chaste. Our bodies are temples that must not be exploited for just pleasure but rather it should be a habitat for future generations, growth, spirituality, bond, creation, emotional wellness and love.

Sleeping with different people is like pawning your treasure and expecting to get it back intact. However, sex with the one you deeply love is like gifting your treasure to someone who'd care for it better than you would. It's like handing over a seed for your partner to plant and nurture.

Africans prioritise religion, marriage and traditions above personal development, science and technology, education and entrepreneurship that's why we're at the back of the queue globally.

Being single or married is just a small dot in the ocean of life.

I disagree with you at the emboldened.

The reason we're at the back of the queue globally is as a result of the European exploitation of natural and human resources in Africa for over 4 centuries.
Celebrities / Chuck Berry, Rock 'n' Roll Pioneer, Dead At 90 by vickyO(f): 5:38am On Mar 19, 2017
Charles Edward Anderson "Chuck" Berry (October 18, 1926 – March 18, 2017) was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. With songs such as "Maybellene" (1955), "Roll Over Beethoven" (1956), "Rock and Roll Music" (1957) and "Johnny B. Goode" (1958), Berry refined and developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive, with lyrics focusing on teen life and consumerism and music featuring guitar solos and showmanship that were a major influence on subsequent rock music.

Police in St. Charles County, Missouri, were called to Berry's house on March 18, 2017, where he was unresponsive. Berry was pronounced dead at the scene; he was 90.

Family / Is Nigeria Not Too White Washed? Your Views... by vickyO(f): 2:54pm On Feb 08, 2017
I'm in my final year of study and a lot is going in my head about how the system the West has imposed on us has not yielded the desired outcome. Nigeria is acting like a local kid who became posh and now thinks of her local past as something never to return to.

Below are some questions I'd like us to discuss here:

1) Must we practice democracy?
2) Must our banking system be like theirs? E.g. First Bank.
3) Must we pattern our education like theirs?
4) Must we be identified by a national identity (why not cultural)?
5) Must we wear English clothings four times a week and ours only once?
6) Must we wear wigs in court?
7) Must we destroy our community friendly nature by building houses with high walls and gates?
8. Why can't we return to living as separate tribal entities?
9. Must our kids speak like the Queen?
10) Why can't the language of a region be the official language of that region?
11) Why do most people feel White people are more qualified for our prestigious jobs?
12) Why are we so white washed?

In summary, why aren't we curious enough to know what life would be like if the British hadn't disrupted our development?

Why can't our government restructure the country to support our African roots?

Why are we ashamed of our traditions and place the White man's traditions on a higher pedestal than ours?

I wish all corrupt politicians would be in these people's shoes because they are the number one criminals. They get fat by devouring the common man's benefit and the common man suffers as a result. I'm sure of the fact that majority of the inmates wouldn't have been in this predicament if the situation in the country had been better.

No hard and fast rule applies in human relationships. Being a good cook hasn't helped all marriages neither has loving s/e/x or being independent.
The truth of the mater is that relationships only thrive when both parties understand each other well enough to co-habit and have children under the institution of marriage.

Marry a person you understand and who understands you.

A country built on false pretence is like a house built on a shaky foundation. Unless the foundations are made sturdy, the house will fall.

Nigeria was built on corruption, lies and unfortunately the efforts of some honest nationalists. We will keep having these issues till something (which I don't know) is done.

Its just like building your house on soakaway and expecting the smell to go. Air fresheners would be your most purchased commodity till you die.

I'm tired of all this crap. Let the government proffer a lasting solution.

Hmmm! but what if you're deeply in love with the person, will you let him go like that all because of religion?

It's hard to be deeply in love with person who doesn't understand your core.

I need a man I can talk to about my spirituality. A man I can pray with, that I can go to church with and who will teach my kids the Word.

Religion shapes our core and our core affects our being.
