DJMAS314 Bro, its alright, i understand you now . Working with people who share same interest with me would be super cool. I would love to work with you. At the moment, much of what i am doing is basically laying foundation for core features. When i get to the point where i begin the addition of features, i would contact you. I would have liked to test your OS, but i dont have an Android device. *dhtml: Exactly what i am doing , building the core . If the core is weak, then apps would pretty much suck. I have 60% of the OS design worked out already. I certainly don't see myself slowing down (except when back dey pain me ). Coding this stuff is quite exciting and challenging. --- Still working on the same configuration manager. Now you can change the home screen background image and position it (fill, fit, center, stretch) |

DJMAS314: Concerning your OS, nice job bro. I am certainly working hard to reach you . But i have to say that i feel you came out pretty wrong. I don't know if it is me, but its not proper to compare your project with one that is just starting out. I feel like you dissed me and my infant project (which is only a few days old). But still would like to work with you and many other people soon. For now, i need to build this thing alone, i want something solid before i make it open source. Again, great work!!! |

pc guru: Thanks bro. I am unable to access my mail now (network problem), i will do that when i can. I feel like the project is still not ripe for Google Code yet. When that time comes i will do that. Will definitely let you know when i enroll. |

pc guru: kennedyidialu [at] gmail [dot] com Still working on the Preference Manager. I have been doing some thinking about how applications should be designed. I thought about enforcing a standard for interface design but that would hinder developer freedom. What i was thinking: A template for application interface. This would prevent apps from looking like websites which is good. But, it means applications would have same look. I don't think i/developers would like that. Since the technology for development is still the same as the one for websites there should be no need for a template. Developers should have the freedom to code as they like. I think this is where Carbyn got it wrong (based on their introductory video) and google got it right with their extensions. So, applications may look like websites if the developers choose to. I will provide recommendations that can be adopted. I think this approach, will make the set up of existing apps easy. Right now, PHCN has not been nice for days. Hopefully, by the weekend i'd be done with the preference manager. |

pc guru: That is true. I don't see myself using .NET anytime soon. I would probably be using Java. I went to one IT centre (HIIT) to learn Java, instead i was teaching myself C# with their PC (i had no laptop/pc then) . *dhtml: Hard work sure pays in this field. The only thing i need from them is just the certificate/diploma I wish i had people around me that would make me feel inferior, the people around don't even get me - They call me 'boring nerd' . |

pc guru: Great. Of course, anyone who expects to learn 30% of the skills they require from an IT college (without personal study) is on a long thing. I read aptech's syllabus, from what i saw, it wouldn't be too difficult for me i believe. |

*dhtml: I am about to start the preference/configuration manager. This is where users can edit the configurations/preference of applications (including native app). So if a user wants to change the home screen's background image and background position, it would be done in the configuration manager. I chose to start this now because i want to add the ability to change the homescreen's background image and position. pc guru: No problem bro. I have plans for Aptech too next year. |

- Added Mini-Mode which is 1000px by 600px. - Single User log in and log off - Ability to minimize OS window with Escape key - and some other small small things I am getting to that point where i would begin to write the Developer SDK and add my secret ideas. I need to write a dialog/modal library, wouldn't want apps to use the ugly alert(). This is 11.50PM, started coding from 11:00AM, chai, my back make i watch film sef or do xtra-cool with that igbo gir Cheers. |

pc guru: Alright, please send me the docs and explanations. With this bridge, application would call flash methods for advance features lacking in HTML5. You don't need any sort of interface work. The bridge would make access to the camera and speakers easy for skype like apps. If what I have said is what you mean, then oboy I am down with it. |
Programming / Re: Sage OS (HTML5) : The Development (with download link) by worldbest(m): 5:38pm On Oct 23, 2011 |
pc guru: Yes, the OS will have support for both offline apps (packaged) and online app (hosted). I like your idea, but i think the web is trying to move away from flash, and developers can still use flash in their apps. Although, i don't know flash and i am guessing that you talking about adding more features to HTML5. Don't you think the bridge can just be written as a library/plugin? |

*dhtml: Thats true. I love challenges. -- Now the OS, runs on its own independent window and refreshes the display whenever it is re-sized. This made me realize that the OS can also have two modes 1. Full Screen 2. Mini Screen (900x600) Full screen would be suitable for applications that require the whole computer resolution. While mini screen would be for apps that do not need the whole screen e.g Chat apps, games (Ludo, X and O, etc) The last time i used style-style to play with someone's iPad, it had this feature. Cheers |

SayoMarvel: Thank you very much. Very soon we'll all be testing an alpha version I will be making a small change to the way the OS starts. At the moment, the app starts in a new pinned tab. This is OK, but I want apps to run in full screen mode (without pressing F11) and not obstruct the users normal browsing experience. So I have decided to make the OS start in a new popup window which is totally fullscreen and independent from all windows. But the OS will still have full control over the popup and all windows. The user can switch to the OS by bringing it up from the taskbar, by clicking a shortcut icon on the desktop, by tapping a key while viewing a website and by performing a mouse gesture. Right now I dey for church. Hopefully, I would complete this by the end of today. Cheers |

Ojukwu24: Thank you bro. God Bless. pc guru: Thank you bro. I have a sort of OCD that forces me to doubt the beauty of interfaces i design, i end up re-doing it . I am happy you think its sleek . Please send me your specifications, this is one of the areas i have not yet finalized plans. I tampered with my il8n code, so i will just go fix it. Cheers |

Beaf: Yes, i understand that windows 8 will let developers build native apps but i haven't really done much reading on it. I think this is one of the platform i need to consider because it may have negative effects on my work. I imagine developers preferring to build HTML5 Apps for windows 8 which would be much more powerful. I willl do more research on Window 8 HTML5 capabilities. Thank you for bringing this up. xterra2: Thank you xterra. Don't be sad, i understand that feeling. When i am unable to get something right, i get angry at myself, go to bed (even if its morning) with a biro and an paper, ponder about ways to tackle the challenge. If i cannot come up with the solution, i go to StackOverflow and ask questions. This approach has never failed me. Never give up pc guru: Nice |

pc guru: I was working on a script that would allow app pages to be swiped like the ipad, but it was ok but it did not feel natural for the mouse. Since i do not want scrollbars on apps, i made another script that would allow pages to be scrolled easily by placing the mouse over a specific element. The speed can be adjusted too. Right now, i have not gone deep. This are what i have succeeded in doing 1. Install OS (Account Creation, File System Creation etc) 2. Home Screen Wasted alot of time with the iPad swipe stuff. Tomorrow, i will be putting all the small small scripts i have written together to complete the home screen. Thank you so much for offering to help, at the moment, nothing is proving stubborn. But i will definitely call on you when i am challenged. I would also like to see the ipad PSD. Please send them to my email kennedyidialu [at] gmail [.] com Thanks |

I am only using jQuery where DOM manipulation is needed. Other codes are written in a class-like manner. |

@pc guru That looks great I initially wanted it to be a widget, but the idea just got bigger. I would create a git repo when i feel ready. What i am doing now is writing some of the parts as jQuery plugins. |

Ok, things are going faster than expected. I just completed the installation routine. I am at that point where you see your home screen. Just taking inspiration from other OSs on how the home screen would look like. By thd way, I am using jQuery. My fuel done finish, so I will stop here. I would have posted screenshots but na picture una go chop? Lol. My plan is to upload the stuff for testing once I am done with the home screen. Cheers |

gameaddict: Heeeey GA, how far now. I totally agree with you. We should not stop developing stuffs just because the big boys have done it. My aim is not to recreate the native browser functionalities but to create a sort of platform where applications are built with HTML5. I want a situation where heavy internet users can go for days without minimizing their browsers. I know there are cloud OSs but only one was built on web technologies. As per the game group, make una no vex. I try to learn one or two things but Web programming just takes the whole of my time. Hw school naw? |

texazzpete: I would agree that the underlying tech is secondary. Like i earlier said, its not going to be like the normal OS. I think the people who created Carbyn also share similar vision with me. dhtml .: Thats the reason why i have posted it. I believe it will help with my seriousness pc guru: That is the idea. Most of the principles i will be using will be custom. Like the web worker for thread. WebWorkers are still better that setTimeout cus the work on seperate processes. I am also aware of their problems. Thanks you very much for bring that up. |

engineerd: Salmoneus: pc guru: I also asked myself minutes after i created the thread, i said "wb, why you come post your idea for everyone to see" . But you see, i believe posting it online would make me work on it seriously, it would improve how i handle projects because i tend to get distracted easily. So now i know that if i fail to do it, someone else will take it up and that is my punishment. Anyway, i am not really bothered about me exposing the idea. As PC Guru as stated, this is just the basic feature/plan. Plus, i believe that anyone who copies the idea is just going to be rushing things as he/she/they would not have done any research as i have. I've been working on the idea for months now till Carbyn beat me to it. Also, it wont be bad to have good competition. Google and Bing exist, but we know who's king. Now that this thread in on the front page, cold dey catch me. Update Now, i am working on the File System. By tomorrow afternoon, i am pretty sure i would have completed the installation codes. ----- |
