WAEC GCE 2024 candidates (2nd series) can choose CBT or PPT; The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that candidates taking the November West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), also known as WAEC GCE, will now have the option to choose between Computer-Based Tests (CBT) and Paper-Based Tests (PBT).

Dr. Amos Dangut, the Head of National Office for WAEC in Nigeria, disclosed this in Ibadan while overseeing the ongoing WASSCE, accompanied by key council officials.

The availability of CBT and PBT options for WAEC GCE candidates signifies a new development in examination delivery. Dr. Dangut highlighted that the council had previously conducted the first edition of the computer-based WASSCE (CB-WASSCE) in January/February. This edition showcased improved performance compared to the previous year, with a notable reduction in malpractice incidents from five per cent to 0.8 per cent.

For the upcoming November session, private candidates sitting for the WASSCE will have the flexibility to opt for either CB-WASSCE or the traditional paper-based test.

Furthermore, WAEC aims to extend the adoption of computer-based examinations to all schools in collaboration with the Federal Government and other stakeholders. Dr. Dangut emphasized that the council is actively preparing the necessary infrastructure and providing training to schools to facilitate this transition.

Contrary to skepticism, the transition to CBT has been deemed successful by WAEC, significantly reducing the rate of malpractice in examinations. This move reflects WAEC’s commitment to modernizing examination processes while maintaining integrity and credibility.
