EDITH Ogoke is the first Nigerian woman to box in the Olympics. She fights on Sunday. She is also the last Nigerian boxer registered for the Olympics who is still in London. The other two boxers(male) would watch her from their respective homes in Nigeria. They all lost and have bid bye to London Olympics.

Aware of the huge task on her shoulders, Edith said yesterday that she would not give anybody any chance to tell her stories.

‘’Right now, I am hot, red-hot. I am sad that the two boxers have lost. I am going to fight their battle with mine. I pity the girl from Azerbaijan,’’ Edith said moments after her training.

She is billed to fight Vy Stropova Elena of Azerbaija on Sunday in the Women’s 75kg (middleweight) by 4.55pm.

‘’I’m ready to prove that Nigeria is a force to be reckoned with in women boxing. I will not give my opponent any chance. It’s either I go for knockout or box in a way that nobody can play any tricks’’.

Female boxers!? shocked I think i'll pass.

Any dude entertaining thoughts of marrying a female boxer had better be a nice monogamous fella, otherwise he should have a black-belt in karate. Getting seven bells beaten out of you by the wife for daring to wander off with another chick?....a worse fate i can't think of.

Having said that, i reckon that if we stand a chance of winning a medal in boxing, it's likely to come from our women. With the likes of Cuba (and even little Ghana) standing in our way, it's not looking good for our male boxing contingent.

It is so sad that our amateur boxing has been allowed to degenerate to this level after the death of Group Captain Brai Ayonote.

Time was when we used to field boxes in every weight division, and won 5 gold medals in the Auckland Commonwealth games in 1990. Now see where we are: fielding only TWO male boxers whose performances were at best, shocking.

Shame on Nigeria!

I am happy she knows that she is the only one left out of 3. I believe with that mindset to uphold the glory of the boxing team, she could win something.

I'm behind you, EDITH. Go for GOLD! cool

Where is Obisia Nwankpa that was coaching these boxers b4. I learnt he fought for Nigeria and was good and also was made amateur coach.
Re: Olympics 2012: Boxer Ogoke Vows To Win by olapluto(m): 4:54pm On Aug 01, 2012
She should be happy to win her 1st fight, talk less of winning gold. She's not Nigeria's best boxer. She was only lucky at the qualification in China. A younger boxer in weight class than her, Kehinde Obareh always spars her well. Please expect nothing from this lady. She's all talks. Our first medal contender is Mariam Usman in Weightlifting +77kg women.
