Bakassi has taken its destiny in its own hands as it declared its independence, almost a decade after International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled that the oil-rich Bakassi did not belong to Nigeria but Cameroun.

In a show of independence the “New Country” hoisted its own flag. It hoisted a blue, white and red flag with 11 stars on the blue colour.

Bakassi also started a radio station which began on August 6 at noon and operates on 4.2MHz and 5.2MHz band. The Bakassi Self-Determination Front (BSDF) is the mastermind behind the cessation.

Commander-General of the BSDF, Ekpe Ekpenyong Oku, said arrangements had been made with some international liberation groups to assist the Bakassi natives in the battle with Cameroun who are sending in troops to quell the declaration of independence by the group. Residences have already been warned to flee so as not to be caught in the cross fire.

“Please for the umpteenth time, we plead with our people to leave Abana now. The fight is going to be thickest and fiercest now that our brothers from the northern and eastern flanks have fully arrived. Bakassi we hail thee.” Oku said.

“Throughout history, injured people have had to resort to arms in their self-defence where peaceful negotiations fail. Bakassi people are no exception. Our right to self-determination is imminent; some will die, but some will live to reap from our labour.” he added

The BSDF also warned travellers to keep away from the sea close to Bakassi and the Camerouns between August 11 and 12, as that is when the battle for independence will be fiercest.

The independence they are fighting for is not against Nigeria but against Cameroon which have taken possession of their land. if only Bakassi People did the needfull in 1967 the present and impending massacre would be needless. I would not be surprised in Nigerians join Cameroun to quell the Bakassi uprising.

I appreciate your optimism bro, but its easier said than done. Its often said charity begins at home. I think before you start convassing for the creation of United states of Africa. I would advise you talk to your brothers up North to lay down their arms and embrace dialogue, as long as they keep on with the wanton destruction of lives and properties in the name of religion. The heralding of a new US of Africa is far from reality!!

Nigeria is very good the way it is. We are a powerhouse in Africa and we will bring the Black Man to the map once again. Breaking Nigeria up is anti African and anti-Black and would lead to the loss of sovereignty by the whole west Africa to the europeans on a second colonisation effort. Please remember what we have in common: we are black and they hate us for that reason. Let's make Africa proud and spearhead the creation of the United States of Africa.
