Cassava Flour: The Stuff Gala is Made From The Federal Government has disclosed that UAC Nigeria Plc, makers of popular snack – Gala Sausage Roll, are in compliance with its policy on cassava flour for bread based products. According to a statement from the Presidency, Gala has a 20% cassava mix. This has resulted in considerable savings in foreign exchange for the company according to the statement. The statement also disclosed other strides the government has made in the agriculture sector. “The government, through the public private partnership (PPP) initiative, has attracted $40 million foreign investment to rice production and milling in Taraba State.” The investment is expected to produce 300,000 metric tonnes of rice or 15% of national rice imports and create 15,000 jobs. “This administration is facilitating the establishment of the largest high quality rice processing mills with an overall installed processing capacity of two million tonnes per annum which will also be the largest installed milling capacity in Africa. SimonAndal: I don't know about gala, but biggie(?) is stiffer. That one has been like that for a long time, I am not sure it is made from Cassava at all. However, UAC's cake is truly stiffer now. I am not feeling all of these "stiff" pastry. Pastry should be fine and smooth in the mouth. |

Only government policies will help the growth of the once buoyant agriculture industry . Such initiatives to enforce the use of cassava flour will do a lot of good for farmers and this will also bridge the ever widening gap of unemployment in the country.
