Okupe To Northern CAN: Jonathan Won’t Go by Joeadamu86: 10:33am On Aug 15, 2012
The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs Doyin Okupe has described as misguided the call by the Northern Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for Jonathan to resign for poor handling of the security challenges in the country.

Okupe told State House Correspondents Monday that the statement credited to CAN was uncalled for even as he sympathised with CAN for loss of lives following the activities of members of the Boko Haram sect.

The Northern CAN in the 19 northern states hadpin a statement signed by its spokesman, Sunday Oibe, faulted the President’s handling of the security challenges in the country, insisting that he has failed Nigerians and should resign .

According to Okupe, the call by the Northern CAN “is misguided, but government is compelled to sympathize with the Christian Community in the North who have suffered incessant and bloodshed.

He reiterated that the security challenges would soon be over, adding that it took the British government more than 28 years to contain the Irish Revolutionary Army (IRA), 27 years to wipe out the Sri-Lanka Tami Rebels and over 16 years to contain the Oman Insurgency in Morocco.

He said the Nigeria’s Armed Forces has the capacity to contain all insurgent attacks within days, adding that such action would be expensive at a great collateral damage to the civilian populace, hence the need for patience.
