ANC Not Conclusive On Nationalisation Says Zuma by sbmzhcn: 4:19pm On Sep 04, 2012

President Jacob Zumconcasseur exploitation industrielle ora says extensive research and debate will continue before the ruling party decides whether to nationalise mines or not. He was speaking in an interview with international television channel CNBC Africa yesterday.

President Zuma says although many ANC members disapprove of the nationalisation of mines the party will definitely discuss the issue at its National Conference in Mangaung later this year.

"At the end of the National Policy Conference the issue of nationalisation was not accepted. Those resolutions become recommendations to the conference that will be held at the end of the year. They then take the recommendations which then become resolutions finalized by the ANC," says Zuma.

The proposal is insupportable

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Mines has criticised the ANC's proposal of a 50% super-tax on profits exceeding 15%.

Analyst Vivian Atuk says the proposal is insupportable.

"What is important for South Africans is how will the State intervention in the mining sector increase the role that benefits ordinary South Africans on the street - how will it increase employment and job creation as we've already seen lots of the State enterprises operating inefficiently," says Atuk.
