Does Uniben admit candidate that wrote JUPEB from other centres, other than the Uniben centre into medicine? What is their cut-off points on JUPEB? How many slots are allocated to JUPEB candidates. Does a candidate with 232 (given the abysmally low scores in this year UTME) in post UTME stand a chance to gain admission into medicine? Acecards: |

Whilst not trying to derail, please how can you compare the quality of training in private universities to the federal and state universities medical programmes? Cause the discussions here largely centres on the federal and state universities for medicine but not the private schools. I want candid opinions please. Thank you |

farady: Hi. I haven't been to any private medschool before so, I have no first-hand experience. However, any school that is accredited to teach medicine is good enough. This settles the issue of "quality." Note that whatever that is not learnt during medschool would eventually be learnt in your practice. There is so much stress in public schools. I'm not sure if the stress in private schools is equivalent. I doubt. Another important point to look at is tuition. Of course, no need to hammer too much here. 4 Likes |

TONYE001:Standard still varies. You can't compare UI standard to EBSU standard, apologies! even when they are both accredited. The kind of boss you'll learn a job from will always have effect on how much you know. Gaining admission is the Ultimate but the standard differs. 5 Likes |

MrEgghead: Hello chief, You've got a point but do recall that we all write the same board exams (post-grad). The school where one primarily studies is only minimal in the making of a doctor. At the end of the day, the doctor is a product of the centre(s) he trained at from the post-grad level. What I mean is, the residency program (years of practical/hands-on learning compared to theoretical undergrad education) contributes more. You know there are some very average undergrad students that turn out excellently (as specialists) years later. Reasons? Individual efforts and postgrad experiences. Once a school is accredited, it's good to go, its facilities or staff members notwithstanding (as far as it meets the MINIMAL requirements of a medschool). One of our teachers always says that it's when we return for house job that actual medical training starts.. What we do at this level is only prep. This is only my opinion, chief. 15 Likes |
