http://www.punchng.com/feature/midweek-revue/nigeria-ghana-marketers-meet-over-movie-ban/

Members of the Film Distributors Association of Ghana on Thursday paid Nigerian movie marketers a visit at their Surulere, Lagos office, to express their dissatisfaction over the alleged ban of their movies from the Nigerian market.

The Ghanaian delegates led by the Chief Executive Officer of A.A productions Limited, Ghana, Mr. Mustapha Adams, said their mission was to confirm what they termed a ‘rumour’. Adams added that they also came to seek ways of fostering a better relationship for the distribution of works from Nollywood and Ghollywood.

About a few months back
, the media and the movie scene were agog with the news that Nigerian movie marketers had banned Ghanaian films. The marketers under the auspices of Film, Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, also allegedly threatened to storm Ghana, to confront local television stations that are showing Nigerian films without obtaining permission from the rights owners.

Responding to their guests, the Chairman of FVPMAN’s Lagos chapter, Mr. Norbert Ajaegbu, said the ‘rumours’ were true as the decision to ban Ghanaian movies was without prejudice, but rather, an effort to streamline the distribution of movies in Nigeria. Ajaegbu added that the move became necessary when it was discovered that Nigeria was becoming a dumping ground for second-rate movies with nude content. He said, “What informed this decision is that what our people refer to as ‘Ghanaian film’ has become more like a nuisance to our system here.

The trait is like people moving to Ghana, bringing a film that has been sold and forgotten in Ghana and distributing it in other parts of the world where it is possible, including United States before dumping it in Nigeria. “They buy these films for as cheap as N250, 000 and when they get here they cut the picture of a star that will make it sell. At a point, we realised that if 30 movies are coming out in a month in Nigeria, 24 of them will be Ghanaian films and without proper approval. We have the National Film and Video Censors Board here that should approve any film going into the market but some marketers smuggle these films in.

We have endured this to this point.” Ajaegbu said the decision to ban Ghana movies also became necessary because the films constitute “a total abuse of the market”. He noted that the marketers have constantly had issues with government agencies over nudity in such movies, almost leading.

hungry swines, flooding Nigeria with ungodly movies smuggled through the Seme boarder to make cheap change. And in return will claim to be better.

If Nigeria strips ghana off all its MOU and Ecowas priviledges, they will go down on their knees

Why not get a proper POR.N movie to watch just like the Ghanian movies instead of calling Nigerian movies boring? go and watch "the forbidden fruits" and the rest of their pornnny movies.

My advice to nollywood is to ban both ghana and their own movies. Till they can come up with something superb, not all this rubbish they call movie

Thumbs up Ajaegbu, they should sell their unclad movies in their own country

I don't like nigerian movies, but i hate ghanian movies. First, they started by copying nigerian acts, later, re-doing old nigerian movies but with better costumes, later, include pornographies! Those wallydrags!

Ghanian movies is totally Rubbish. I still find it hard to believe that there movies has been ban in Nigeria. Because i'm still seeing a couple of their new movies. If i wanna watch real porn films(blue film), i know where to get one. They shouldn't make me and my family feel uncomfortable when watching one interesting movie and the next thing you see is WOW! Unclad scenes. And my dad will go like.. "Why them dey show these kind thing for tv?" Lolz.. Unlike them, Nigerian movie(Noolywood) is nothing different. Gone are the days when Noolywood act sensitive movies. Even, i recently watched one titled "Girls Cot." and the new one "The Lesbians." Both movies protrays act of lesbianism whereby the government will sit down and do Nothing. What was the 14yrs jail term meant for? Must they catch them doing it before they swim into action. Which one is more pathetic.. Two lesbians making love unknowingly in a secret room or A bunch of Retardeen$ who act and circulate it like a virus around the country and other parts of the world. It is high time the government swim into action and implement policies that will restrict movie makers from corrupting the minds of many. Especially the young ones(teenagers). Also policies regarding areas of religion. Majority of us are aware of the protest that erupted in some part of the middle east and North africa. This i believe will help checkmate the level of religious violence in the country. And create a better welfare for each and everyone of us.

I think Nollywood simply feel threatened. Ghana production is a little bit more matured. In Nigeria we believe in rush-rush production. I remember a guy approached me sometime to sponsor a movie, he said from the shooting will take 3 days only. I didn't do it because I felt it was very risky venture.
However, anything they should do to protect our interest should be done.
