Qatar Airways flight to Nigeria declares emergency

LAGOS, Nigeria — Nigerian aviation officials say a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Lagos will need to make an emergency landing because it has problems with its landing gear.

Harold Demuren, director-general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, told The Associated Press that the flight Saturday declared an emergency prior to its arrival to Lagos. Demuren said firefighting equipment and personnel were standing by for the arrival of Flight No. QR592 at Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

Officals with Qatar Airways could not be immediately reached for comment. The company's website showed the Airbus A330-300 aircraft had an estimated arrival time of 1 p.m. local time (1200 GMT).
